During lectures & retreats, I’ve had a number of priests tell me that the anti-Christ was Nero.
The Catechism explains simply that there will be a “supreme religious deception” before the second coming of Christ and that the supreme form of this deception is that of the Antichrist, who will bring “a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh” (CCC 675).
Among us good Catholics, I think this person will be easily identified when he/she comes. The rest of the world certainly won’t believe us when/if we call this person the Antichrist.
Having said that, there are obviously many “little” antichrists.

Could it be The Passion of the Christ ?The Catechism explains simply that there will be a “supreme religious deception” before the second coming of Christ and that the supreme form of this deception is that of the Antichrist, who will bring “a pseudo-messianism by which man glorifies himself in place of God and of his Messiah come in the flesh” (CCC 675).
Could it be The Passion of the Christ ?
What is your basis for thinking so? And why not the earlier film The Last Temptation of Christ instead?Could it be The Passion of the Christ ?
I think I agree with the person above who asked whether this ‘anti-Christ’ (or spirit thereof - for our times) might come from the “media”. I thought since we are divided politically, seemingly irreconcilably, that this spirit of anti-Christ wouldn’t come from that direction; that it would have to go deeper than that, so to speak. That is to say, in short, that it would not come from words but from images , or ‘seeing’. Actually, from images combined with sound, etc. (i.e. movies specifically). And could you please explain your position?Code:
I finally watched most of Scorsese’s film earlier this year. I thought that there were many beautiful moments. And I appreciate that it was done in a more poetic, mystical way, perhaps trying harder to view Christ’s sufferings from his (God’s) point of view. What is your basis for thinking so? And why not the earlier film The Last Temptation of Christ instead?
