I’m in. But, does it mean I have to give up the Simpsons?:nope: It’s the only thing I watch

Already in. The only time it gets hooked up is when the Mariners make the playoffs. Then when they lose, disconnect the next day.

Maybe you could tape the Simpsons. When you have all the episodes taped, then you can stop paying for cable and just watch the episodes whenever you want.
Welcome to the club. Watching one show only is a great step toward no TV at all. 🙂

LOL!

not me! 24 and scrubs alone make giving up tv a less than pleasant prospect.

I’ll support you (as a person who watches at max 3 hours of TV a week). But, until I go to college, my parents like it if I watch a show or two with them every week, so I will continue out of respect for them (most of the shows are just lame now, I still mildly enjoy Judging Amy, Alias, and ER, but that’s about it)

Well, first I have to tape Simpsons anyway because I work nights. Secondly it’s the only show I watch, I havn’t watched much of anything else for some years, except the occasional documentary or special. I think tv is ALMOST useless, with little redeeming value. So thanks for letting me in. Now to get my wife and kids to join:hmmm: .

A good reason that DH and I don’t have TV is that we have no income. (please pray that one or both of us gets a job really soon) TV really isn’t necessary. We enjoy being free of liberal mainstream media bias on the news on TV, and we enjoy the lack of commercials. We play music whenever we want. Luke (my DH) is good enough with computers that we sometimes watch EWTN over the Internet; he actually did that the day Pope John Paul II died so we could hear the bell. (that was a very sad day). I don’t think that sex, vulgarity and innuendo will ever be off the TV, so why not just get rid of it? We are free to learn about God’s creation from books and websites. There are plenty of news websites out there and I enjoy reading conservative commentary on townhall.com

Anyway…God bless you!
Dear friend

I read books, I use the internet, I paint, I write, I do alsorts of things besides sitting down to watch TV. Just because I do watch things on TV does not mean I am a mindless moron, although that’s a matter of opinion I suppose:D . You throw your TV out if you like, but I’m not, thank you anyway …🙂

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

We don’t have a TV to throw out. 🙂 I’m glad that you paint and write. I haven’t written a poem in months! Thanks for the God Bless - right back at you.

Also, with cooking on TV…I don’t miss that. Family members and friends teach me how to cook and there’s a great recipe website: allrecipes.com
Hi Corale 👋

Thanks for that website, it’s great! But it won’t do any good for my figure!😃

YUmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I suppose if you don’t have a TV what you don’t have you don’t miss.

Good luck with your club

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Give up the Pittsburgh Steelers?
EWTN?
NFL Network?

Nahhhh.

I don’t watch a lot of TV but there’s times when I want it.

God bless you who have the discipline to get rid of it.
Dittos to everything you said!!:tiphat:
I have to add “24” , Fox news and The Food Network!

I love tv also, but it is inappropiate to use such language. If the poster doesn’t want to watch tv that is her right. She doesn’t deserve to be cussed at over it.
The administrator correctly removed the post that was cussing. I just want everyone to know that I wasn’t the one cussing but was defending the original poster.

I know…it was nice of you…can’t believe some peoples language.

deb1, thank you for defending me. There is so much swearing on TV that the poster who swore just proved my point. A TV-less home helps DH and I to have a vulgarity-free home, too. Since we don’t swear, there is much less temptation to take the Lord’s name in vain.

Thanks for the blessings. God knows that I need them! 🙂

5 years TV-and-Radio-Free September 30! (OK, I fell off the wagon during the Papal events of the past month, and there was one 2-hour dog show in 2003.)

Yay!!

Radio is sometimes necessary. For example, I live in midwestern US and if I was driving in the car when the sky was all clouded up, I would want to turn the radio on to hear the weather and see if there’s a tornado warning. (same in the winter - I would want to know what the forecast is and see if I should seek shelter from a coming snowstorm) The antenna was stolen off my family’s car but we can still pick up a few things, and we like to listen to tapes with music and Christopher West and other Catholic speakers in the car, too.

springbreeze, please don’t take offense at this. I find it funny that so many Americans have TVs in their homes and America has so many overweight people. If people would stop watching TV (or at least watch it a lot less) and go outside and play, ride bikes, take a nice long walk, etc., then people probably wouldn’t have such a hard time losing weight.

Also, remember that beauty comes from the soul. You could be really ugly and still be a beacon of God’s love to others.

I gave it up for lent this year. I prayed more in those 40 days than I have my whole life.

I’ve since fell back on bad habits (even falling asleep in front of the tube). I feel better about it if I fall asleep while ETWN is on…

Anyway, I’m in!*

*until football season

Giving up TV for Lent showed you how much you need prayer and how little you need TV. I commend you for doing that. LOL at the fine print…maybe you could go to a restaurant with a TV or a friend’s house during football season? My Mom is a Cornhusker fan (meaning she lives in Nebraska, US) so I know how sports fans become fanatics while watching TV.

Here’s a question for those in the club and those who already don’t watch TV and (and don’t pay for cable TV): what do you spend the money on? Do you give more to charity? Do you use it to pursue a hobby?

my Mother my Confidence,
Corinne
