Who will you be supporting in the U.S. presidential election with our Catholic values in mind?

All the while he wants to end Obamacare
Thats what the American people wanted. Thats why after 2 years of Obama they gave the Congress back to the GOP.
So you say. That fact is Trump does not favor doing all he can to reduce abortions.

And then there is this about Fr. Frank Pavone, whom you cite repeatedly:

Back to my first post which addresses the actual thread topic:

I WILL VOTE FOR TRUMP. HE IS THE ONLY CATHOLIC CHOICE. He was voted Pro Life Person of the Year by Operation Recuse, and has given us the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years. Democrats embrace all that the Catholic Church teaches is EVIL, including homosexual marriage and abortion.
If you vote for the party of Abortion (Democrats) then the blood of the innocents drips from your hands. If you vote for the party of homosexual marriage (Democrats) then thats a tacit approval of mortal sin.

A tweet from Father Frank Pavone:

Thats not a fact. Thats a false statement.
You are denying the obvious. Trump could propose universal maternity care. He has not. He could maintain Obamacare which is providing those services. He has said he wants to dismantle it. Those are facts.

So on the question of the thread, I will be supporting whomever is running against Trump in order to remove him as a threat to the very existence of our nation.

I thought priests weren’t permitted to endorse candidates specifically. 🤔

Yes, I wondered about that too. It seems Fr. Pavone is acting like a paid member of Trump’s re-election committee. Perhaps it is that Fr. Pavone is acting as a private citizen when he makes these remarks and is not claiming to speak for the Church. For example, it would be very different if he were making these statements in a homily in mass. Fr. Pavone has had a contentious relationship with the Church hierarchy. In my personal opinion, Fr. Pavone has thrown his clerical integrity in doubt by running such a blatant political ad for Trump.

We all know that there are allegations Trump personally caused a few abortions, right? (See the book All The President’s Women)

Got a group from my parish together to phonebank and canvass for Bernie Sanders!

THIS Tuesday’s Elections are important, too., even for lower-level offices. As with President Trump, who I support, almost every Republican is stronger than their opposing Democratic Party candidate regarding the following:
  • At the state levels, Democrat Governors from Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Montana rejected Born-Alive efforts, while Democrat controlled legislatures in New York, Illinois, Rhode Island, and Vermont recently passed abortion-to-birth laws. On the other hand, Republican Governors in Georgia and Kentucky recently signed pro-life laws.
  • religious liberty
  • conscience protection regarding participating in abortion and in ability for Catholic organizations to hire only those who support similar beliefs and the organization’s mission
  • 50 Senate Republicans present voted in favor of the Born-Alive Protection Bill, while only 3 out of 47 Democrats voted to protect babies BORN from botched abortions
  • In the October 3, 2017 Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (to stop abortions after 20 weeks) vote in the House of Representatives: Republicans voted 234 -to- 2 to stop abortions after 20 weeks, and only 3 members of the other Party voted to stop abortions after 20 weeks
  • freedom from unnecessary government control (like freedom from socialism, communism, and fascism)
  • free speech
  • an economic system that best fights poverty, similar to America’s
  • economic policies that best help minorities, as opposed to useless rhetoric
  • freedom to choose private health insurance
  • protecting American citizens from drug cartels and gangs entering from the southern border
  • protecting girls from boys in their bathrooms and sports competitions

Hard to believe, given that wealth inequality is higher now than at any time since the 1920s. Sure, the poor are doing better than they were 50 years ago (much of that gain coming under Obama), but the rich are doing exponentially better!
  • economic policies that best help minorities, as opposed to useless rhetoric
Hard to believe when Trump policies make it harder and harder for minorities to vote.
  • freedom to choose private health insurance
Which means nothing if one cannot pay for that insurance. With Obamacare, more a covered. With Trump, less and less are covered.
protecting American citizens from drug cartels and gangs entering from the southern border
But no protection from drug companies jacking up the prices of prescription drugs, which affects many many more people than Mexican drug cartels (the latest boggy man to scare voters).
  • protecting girls from boys in their bathrooms and sports competitions
As if this was a big issue!

The Republican acquiescence to the person at the top of the party, shaping it into something dishonest, cruel and bigoted, precludes me from supporting anyone in that party down ticket unless they distance themselves from that person.

The continuation of our democracy is more important than anything else right now.

Either you don’t know what socialism is, or you are spreading propaganda. Which is it?

Trump supports traditional marriage and family, the Democrats actively work against.
Oh my goodness, that doesn’t include adultery just shortly after your current wife (#3) had a baby does it?

In fairness there is the new Protestant Dogma called MULLIGAN.
Apparently if you get a MULLIGAN repentance is unnecessary.
They discerned it from the text of course. It is based on Handicap

Yes, I agree. Not only will Trump make American Great Again, but those Catholics who vote for him will make Catholicism Great Again.
I cannot get my jaw off of the floor…words fail.
Why? This could come as no surprise. Politics and religion are two sides of the same coin for many. We have heard that God put Trump in office since he was elected.

I would agree with you, on this one out of ten commandments, and with respect to the unborn.

One thing we should not tolerate is attack on those people, direct and personal, for their choices to vote for a person they see representing Catholic values, whether it be Trump or someone else. There are legitimate arguments both ways. I hate to see people drop in just to campaign and attack people here, whether they be actual American citizens, Russians, or some sort of bot.
