We’re not turned away at the ER, no, but that’s not what the sickest need. They need chronic longterm care. If you can’t work enough to get it, you can’t afford a plan. Being poor is not the only requirement to be on medicare/caid. I’ve lived in poverty for most of my adult life and I have never once qualified for government assistance in my care. I go to the ER and file bankruptcy every 7years. That is my ‘health care plan’. ER visits and bankruptcies.
If I thought for a second that Congress’ “Plan” would help you, then I’d be for health-care reform. But the dirty ploys behind the scenes that our “Representatives” have done (unions, Louisiana and Nebraska just to highlight a few) prove that our beloved government is after far more than your concerns or mine.

To steal a phrase from Lloyd Bentsen, “Sir, I know healthcare reform, and you are not healthcare reform”.

For instance, if you want to cut the costs of healthcare to EVERYONE, put some type of Tort Reform in the Bill. This has not been addressed and it is the single-most cause of the rise in healthcare costs!

I’m not aware of our healthcare system turning anyone down because they can’t afford health care.

It certainly hasn’t stopped any illegal aliens from being taken care of.

BTW, Aspa, who spoke out in this election? Greedy people who wish to kill the poor, or people tired of the government wasting their money?

Take a look at the emergency food and water distribution in Haiti. The government is WAY behind Catholic Relief Services in helping out the people of Haiti. You think the government can run our healthcare?
If you relied on just private measures, you wouldn’t have the logistics part of the operation working propperly enough and thing would be at a snails pace. The governement has their part and privates people have theirs, there is some over lap but the roles are not identical.

You are thinking of emergecncy care. I happen to need a skin condition checked by specialist that could turn into deadly skin cancer. While I do get very inexpesive care from a charity clinic, my moles and skin tags need to be checked by a specialist. There are not a few but dozens maybe 100s of them. Some doing weird things. I cant aford a skin doctor to once and for all to check them and deal with accordingly. I have neither money nor a medical plan. So yes I have been turned away.
Iv’e read up a bit on Scot Brown, he isnt the conservative you all dream of. He is wishy washy and quite a few issues. I don’t care how many Reublicans you elect out of Massettchustts you will never get a true right to lifer. The status quo will stand. People loosing their homes and hmanity to pay for healthcare. Please quit equating the emergency room to healthcare. Emergency care and healthcare are 2 different things.

The plan would allow me to purchase insurance again, something I haven’t been able to do in over a decade.

And so would modifying Medicare/Medicade. Why do we need yet another government beauacracy with more taxes?

Expanding medicare/medicaid again would get even more resistance from the republicans, it’s not a option that would ever pass. We’re not talking about a ‘simple plan to assist elderly folks with prescription drugs in their twilight years’. You’re talking about adding several million people to that plan for the rest of their lives.

And the Democrats proposed cutting funding all together. Your point?

Medicare is designed around helping old folks for the last decade or two of their lives. You’re asking the entire organization and structure to completely reboot and retool to also handle people for 50-70years each.

You still haven’t answered the question. Instead, you’ve side stepped it and turned it into a partisan issue.

We supposedly already have government programs to help the poor and eldery, but still people fall through the cracks.

Why not fix/expand what we already have? Why advocate the creation of yet another government beauacracy?

The needs of those with chronic health issues are different than the elderly. It is extraordinarily hard to get in medicaid. You have to have at least one kid, possibly more. I didn’t even qualify for it when I was homeless. The entire organization would have to be completely uprooted, demolished and created from scratch.

Would you be opposed to the exsisting programs if the rules for admissions were changed?

I would be the first to sign up, I just don’t think that plan of action would have any viability politically.
Nor would it solve the issue that there simply isn’t enough health care to meet current levels of demand.

And he just proved that his arguement that a public option is needed is false, since we already have an infrastructure in place to attempt to handle some of these types of issues - Medicare, Medicade, and charity care. Why create another bloated government program?

QED

Not saying that the US medical system is perfect, but isn’t it still rated better than the socialized med systems? So why would we use as our model to change to the lesser systems? The last thing we should do is let the govt control this. Not only unconstitutional (yes, that does matter) but they don’t do such a great job controlling things. When Fed Ex took over the overnight mail for the USPS, they saved the govt over $1 million in the first year. If someone has other info, please put it up here. The only system that has been considered so far is the govt takeover of our medical system. Knowing that’s a lesser quality for everyone, why wouldn’t it make sense to look into other alternatives?

Under the proposals, anyone who uses “too much” medical care would be denied further medical care. In a previous thread, there were some posts that quoted the specific language that the doctors would be required to reject care to people who had records of care where the cost was above average.

We could look it up.

Chronically ill people would get “the pain pill”.

That is not health care.

So, you accept the fraud and deceit, you accept the cow-towing to lawyers and keeping torte reform out. And instead you vote for the one that helps you to afford healthcare. I understand that and accept that opinion.

I choose to go against the one that will increase my taxes, limit my healthcare availability, and turning over my life to people I don’t trust.

Ok, I got your point. Pathia has also carefully and clearly explained that difference to me. Thank you for your patience.

Scot Brown is planning on doing one thing. Filibustering the healthcare bill. If that’s all he does, than he was well worth the election, even if he turns out to be a male Olympia Snow.

I don’t want to die. That is selfish yes, but I don’t want to go, not this young.

In the 1960’s we allowed a few in goverment to falsly state that there is a “seperation between Church and State”, we allowed the Supreme Court to nullify the existance of God in our schools. In effect we have said “God we only need you in our spiritual life not our regular ordinary everyday life. Guess what… God said"Ok have it your way.” and exited stage right (maybe left would be a better direction).
Code:
We don't have a healthcare crisis nor do we have a health insurance crisis. What we do have is a crisis of faith. The Catholic Church itself has abdicated its responsiblities to the truely needy to a far flung buracracy. Why must the truely needy always rely on the goverment. Why can't the church purchase private insurance for the poor. Why can't the church provide healthcare period to the poor through its hospital systems. don't mention the cost because I can tell you just from Cathjolics alone we could find the finacial resources to fund all chaitable projects not just healthcare. We could do it far less cosatly than the Fed and with more compassion and we could deliver such care with the intent to release people from the shackles of proverty rather than encouage them to remaqin captives.

This is not about politics, it is about faith.
