so if z was really interested in gaining converts he would be out doing missionary work instead of trying to win a debate contest here. i think we can all see what’s really going on so let’s pray for zerinus. may the holy spirit reveal to him the truth, may jesus forgive him all his sins and mah God the Father pour out his blessings on our brother zerinus.
LOL! 😃

OK.

And you thought that I hadn’t predicted the response? I knew what the response should be better than you did. I am not worried about the response. Not afraid of them! 🙂

I reckon my posts were “productive”. I don’t care if theirs weren’t.

I speak out against the LDS faith because I don’t like lies. Period. As long as the LDS continue to try and spread their lies, as long as there are people stuck in the LDS “church”, I will continue to try to counter the lies. I suspect other former LDS agree with me on this. I pray all those who are trapped in the lies of the LDS will find their way home to Christ and his Church.

As a former atheist, I can say there was a time where I said this about all religions, period. That was because I thought all religions were like mormonism, ie, a cult.

I haven’t experienced “cult” in Catholicism. That list could be applied loosely to corporate America, that doesn’t make corporate America a cult.

I don’t often use the word “cult” to describe mormonism, though. That is what it is but the word has become so meaningless, ambiguous and inflammatory that it becomes a less than useful term.

The word “lies” works much better, and isn’t ambiguous in its meaning.

But if you want to use “cult” to describe Catholicism, I believe it was an accurate term to use, especially the first three centuries or so after Christ’s Resurrection.

And there are cults within Catholicism.

But none are “cult”, ala the modern meaning of Moonies, Scientologist, Jehovah Witness and Mormons.

If Catholicism is what you have experienced as “cult”, then call yourself lucky and pray that God protects you from the real thing.
Well spoken… err, written.

Actually I would say that J. Smith was the tool of Satan. He led people away from Christianity and into a false religion. Those who have left mormonism are probably very bitter against the church which lied to them.
I can’t disagree… But I think what is worse still and needs to be mentioned is that (from what I recall) a major portion of ex-Mormons are indifferent or hostile to ANY practice of faith after having been burned by the LDS. Sadly, many are poisoned from considering ANY other faith practice.

It is a trust issue…we believe (in my case believed) that all religions and their god(s) are exactly like Mormonism…a sham, a con, a lie.

I’m not Mormon but my daughter converted to it. And knowing that the result of Mormonism is that many people separate themselves from God (even after their unfortunate forray into the LDS camp and subsequent “wake up call” to get out) gives me the shivers for my daughter and grandchildren.

I raised my daughter as an atheist in order to protect her from religion. Now I worry that not knowing God will make her vulnerable to cults, such as Mormonism. (Many an atheist finds their children building shrines to various pagan gods in their bedrooms.)

I don’t know about mormons but i know exmormons do a poor job being accurate. Every single fact on the home page of exmormon.org is inaccurate. They aren’t interested in accuracy, just their agenda. And they blame the mormons for having an agenda.

so you think all exmormons are represented by exmormon.org? i never post there and haven’t looked at it in quite some time. I believe it only represents a tiny minority of exmormons. I will say however that you are exaggerating. there are SOME facts there that are accurate. everyone is interested in their own agenda. many exmormons have a valid claim that the LDS church has given them a certain agenda. I would also point out the LDS church’s own reputation regarding accuracy. it isn’t good.

 If you know about mormons, how much can you say that you don’t know? (Since you claim to be Mormon) Look at other sites for information. Cross-check. Look it up before you make a snap judgment.

The only thing I can criticize them for is that most posters at exmormon.org are atheist or agnostic, which it not surprising given their experience with the abuse of religion.

How old is your daughter, and how long has she been a Mormon? Did she join by herself, or are the rest of her family members too? Not being nosy, just curious. Hope you don’t mind me asking.

The owner of the site is an atheist. Any bb, yahoo group, etc reflect the beliefs of the owner, as it is they who set the rules for posting. That particular site has a low tolerance for religious discussion that puts any one religion in a favorable light. It allows equal criticism of any belief, including atheism.

Off topic folks–just answering a curiosity.

Daughter has been Mormon since '95–our priest said she converted because of the guy (he wouldn’t marry her if she didn’t)and I can believe it since she is in love with the guy and the timeline is right. Of course, this hurt our family immensely–especially not being allowed to see her wed and all. It’s caused a great deal of research. And perhaps it’s just coincidence, but from the time of her conversion, I have had a steady stream of missionaries “darken my door”.

Right on topic as far as I am concerned!

Is she happy with being a Mormon? Is she active in the Church? Do you see each other often, or do you avoid each other? What is her husband like? Do you get along with him? Is he a nice guy or not a nice guy!

I hope you know that superficial “happiness” is not part of the equation at all–there is much more to it. Truth is the bottom line. And no one can “live a lie” for any amount of time without it taking a tremenous toll. A person’s integrity is a casualty–so is mental health and even physical health. And what is in store for her when she finally wakes up to all she has lost? Why, she either has to “live a lie” to keep her children and friends or risk losing them. While we’re at it, what happens to trust? What happens to the person’s real Faith and Spirituality? Sacrificed to the LDS? How cruel!

I think that former Mormons know this and so that once they get back on their feet, they do try to at least alert others to the danger that Mormonism presents.
