Back on subject… NonCatholic as myself don’t dislike Mary whatsoever (you may change your title, but your original post shows original content meaning)… Mary was picked by God, that shows that as the Bible explains that her name will be remember in relevance forever.
Does the Bible quote Mary’s Magnificat as : “All generations shall call me relevant”? Relevant and Blessed are NOTthe same.
But proper relevance does not up her status to being head of parade with millions of folks parading behind her praying to her.
That is a cultural Christian response to love. Obviously, you miss the point.
She asked Jesus (before his time) to make wine, Jesus obeyed his mother as the Bible teaches us to show respect, but he was also quick to point out that she was not to take advantage of him (before his time).
The Bible doesn’t quote Jesus as saying something akin to warning her not to take advantage of him. The quote is: “Dear woman, why do you involve me in this? My time has not yet come.” (John 2:4). How does your concern affect me?;: literally, “What is this to me and to you?”
This verse may seek to show that Jesus did not work miracles to help his family and friends. When he remarked “Dear woman” please remember that in Hebrew it is a normal, polite form of address and not to be reinterpreted as any sort of ‘warning’ as you seem to suggest.
Jesus also showed respect when on the cross he (as was Jewish custom of the time) took care of his mother (appointed a careperson).
If Jesus had other brothers and sisters, the next oldest would have fulfilled the responsibility of careperson for his mother, not John.
Of course most Protestants such as myself also don’t believe Mary was a virgin forever and that Joseph was a husband in sexual relations after the birth of Jesus.
They do this because they also endorse artifical birth control and divorce. These cloud one’s perception of the Truth and leads to significant errors in understanding the Faith properly.
**By the Church proclaiming the perpetual Virginity of Mary, the teaching *protects ***the Truths about Christ. Every doctrine about Mary tells us something about Christ or something about ourselves or the Church. Mary’s perpetual virginity demonstrates her purity of heart and total love for God.
We don’t believe Joseph was 90 years old and Mary just 12-14 when they were married. We don’t find that information in the Bible and don’t rely on “sacred books” outside the Bible.
I was never taught that Joseph was 90 years old and that Mary was just 12-14 years of age when they were married. That isn’t biblical; it isn’t part of Catholic tradition, either.
