Anyone can rebuke the pope for sinfulness or stupidity, as jmcrae already pointed out to you.
But if you mean rebuking him for teaching heresy, I’ll answer that when you tell me who has the authority to rebuke any of the scripture writers
The fact is, AFH, you believe in infallibility. You believe the writers of scripture had it when they wrote (either that or scripture is full of errors). So, if my request above seems ridiculous to you, it’s because you probably find it silly to rebuke someone in an area where he’s infallible.
Are you going to respond to the rest of my post?
Hi,
I believe that God wrote the Scriptures through the HS physically written by men yes
People did try to rebuke the writers of the bible. That is why so many heresies were being taught and still are today. Anyone has the right to rebuke whoever they want ,thankfully the truth is the truth and that will never change AMEN!
Here lies the differences between you(catholic) and I(protestant),
1.) I believe in Priesthood of all believers(All believer’s are heir to the throne of God–are equals, noone is better then the next)which pretty much makes knowledge and understanding of scripture available to all who have HS. Maybe understanding is a better word then intrepretation.
2.)There is only one meaning(uniquivical(SP?)to the scriptures–so when 2 people have 2 different meanings both cannot be right.
3.) This where #3 comes in poor hermeneutics–also when two people disagree on a passage the only real way of disputing it is going back to the original language (Greek or Hebrew)and study it out together and discuss what it reaaly means in the original language. Thank God my minister does that for us. He also gives us the Greek when studying the bible.
4.)Scripture does intrepret scripture–Im not sure what the CC believes about this. But since I have been studying the bible, I have seen this happen. I will be studying a book and we are told to go to another passage and it is like WOW it says the same thing–one passage backs up another. Psalms is a good place to find back up to the NT.
5.)Spiritual maturity also has much to do with understanding scripture # 6 on my list. The more you study God’s Word with the guidance of the HS, the more mature you become and the more the HS reveals to you. When you are a baby you drink milk as you grow up you are able to eat real food. This same thing applies to understanding the bible. Actually, I forget where but there is scripture that uses this analogy. People who dont mature in Christ(bible study) can easily be swayed in all different directions.
We all know the scripture 1 Timothy 3: 15–16. This tells me that all I need to know in order to grow in Christ and follow Him accordingly was written in scripture. If people want to follow extra guidelines that is there choice as long as they follow biblical principles first and foremost.
Now I understand that you dont agree with me on much of what I say but this is my belief and I have faith and trust that the HS is leading me to the truth. As I mature as a christian I am becoming stronger and more confident in my beliefs. That is the HS working in me.
