Mark, that sounds like an interesting idea. Could you explain how it would work?Want lower oil prices? Start by cutting taxes on gasoline.

Because Bush vetos the legislation and the Dems don’t have the 2/3 majority to override and it’s all partisan politics. Did you really not know this?I don’t understand either.
After all the libs now control both houses of Congress.
No reason why they can’t pass laws that will correct the problem.
They could have done that a year ago, when they took over Congress, but for some reason they didn’t.
The libs have all the answers but berating some oil company guy doesn’t seem to be having much effect to the positive.
Why don’t the Dems just pass a law ordering lower prices?
If they want to have the government seize the oil companies [which is what Maxine Waters said … I heard her say it], then why didn’t they just do it???
It would with plug-in hybrids, run mainly on electric from nuclear power, recharge at night…gas when needed for the long trips.Yes, but environmentalists are vehemently opposed to nuclear, and it won’t help with automotive fuel consumption.
Which legislation to fix high oil prices did President Bush veto?Because Bush vetos the legislation and the Dems don’t have the 2/3 majority to override…
How ironic-in abortion threads we are told repeatedly that its ok to vote for abortion on demand canidates becuase the Republcians have not ended abortion.Because Bush vetos the legislation and the Dems don’t have the 2/3 majority to override and it’s all partisan politics. And the Democrats offer all of the above plus higher taxes, dead babies, high tarrifs ,insitutionalizing moral deparvity and racial and gender pereferencesI always love how the Democrats have no answer while the Republicans have what?
A plan to expand government debt at unprecedented levels?
A plan to increase budgets which will lock in increases in taxes for decades?
A plan to erode personal privacy?
A plan to increase government involvement in every human life?
So republicans can promise us
A weaker dollar
A stagnate economy at best a shrinking economy if desired.
Increased economic barriers
In all fairness, you must agree that democrats want to get increasingly involved in human life, too. Was in not democrats in New York who wanted to make trans-fats illegal in restaurants? What about mandatory helmet laws (though personally I think if you don’t wear your helmet, your insurance company shouldn’t have to pay if you injure yourself)?I always love how the Democrats have no answer while the Republicans have what?

Again tell me which part the republicans did not match, or out do them on?And the Democrats offer all of the above plus higher taxes, dead babies, high tarrifs ,insitutionalizing moral deparvity and racial and gender pereferences
In the last 8 years which started with a balanced budget the Republicans increased the national debt more than the sum of 1791-1985(?). Talk about hiding the forrest with a few treesIn all fairness, you must agree that democrats want to get increasingly involved in human life, too. Or how’s about social security? Shouldn’t I have a choice on how to invest my money (which is pulled out of my paycheck)? Why am I forced as to how to invest my money?
I agree that both parties are equally responsible for the budget mess. I am a Republican (but more of a fiscal conservative, really). I am absolutely disgusted by how the party of fiscal responsibility has allowed spending to get so out of control. I think certain Republicans who have voted for useless pork (remember a bridge to no where) deserve to be voted out of office so a message is sent that we will hold them accountable to principles.
Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree with you on the reckless spending. In the last 8 years which started with a balanced budget the Republicans increased the national debt more than the sum of 1791-1985(?). Talk about hiding the forrest with a few trees
The budget was not balanced when bush took office. The national debt increased every year Clinton was President.Again tell me which part the republicans did not match, or out do them on?

I could make the same sweeping generalization about Conservative Catholics after reading this forum for a while…Liberal environmentalists aren’t happy about anything. Ever… roanoker
My happiness is not dependent on the price of oil, which party controls congress or the white house, the state of the economy, etc, etc, tec…So why are conservatives happy about expensive oil?
Do they like the economic slow down?
Are they all oil sellers?
Are they anti-American and thus like the negitive effect on the US?
Just what is it about expensive oil that makes them happy?
Because they want their cake and eat it too?I didn’t understand why the democratic Senators were so angry at the oil executives during the last hearing. These people all claim to want to reduce the use of oil in order to save the environment. It seems to me that one effective way to reduce the use of a given commodity is to raise the price.
It shows a lot of hypocrisy to claim to want 2 $ per gallon oil and reduce the use of oil simultaneously. That really can’t be done.
