Why aren't liberal environmentalists happy about expensive oil?

I don’t understand either.

After all the libs now control both houses of Congress.

No reason why they can’t pass laws that will correct the problem.

They could have done that a year ago, when they took over Congress, but for some reason they didn’t.

The libs have all the answers but berating some oil company guy doesn’t seem to be having much effect to the positive.

Why don’t the Dems just pass a law ordering lower prices?

If they want to have the government seize the oil companies [which is what Maxine Waters said … I heard her say it], then why didn’t they just do it???
Because Bush vetos the legislation and the Dems don’t have the 2/3 majority to override and it’s all partisan politics. Did you really not know this? 🤷

Yes, but environmentalists are vehemently opposed to nuclear, and it won’t help with automotive fuel consumption.
It would with plug-in hybrids, run mainly on electric from nuclear power, recharge at night…gas when needed for the long trips.

Which legislation to fix high oil prices did President Bush veto?

– Mark L. Chance.

How ironic-in abortion threads we are told repeatedly that its ok to vote for abortion on demand canidates becuase the Republcians have not ended abortion.

But back to the subject at hand-the Democratss cant solve the problem becuase they dont have any solutions. My favorite is their desire to raise taxes on the oil companies because they make too much. Taxes which, as with all taxes, will be passed on to the consumer. So their “punishment” of the oil companies make gas even more expensive. Is that a "solution.

I always love how the Democrats have no answer while the Republicans have what?
A plan to expand government debt at unprecedented levels?
A plan to increase budgets which will lock in increases in taxes for decades?
A plan to erode personal privacy?
A plan to increase government involvement in every human life?

So republicans can promise us
A weaker dollar
A stagnate economy at best a shrinking economy if desired.
Increased economic barriers

And the Democrats offer all of the above plus higher taxes, dead babies, high tarrifs ,insitutionalizing moral deparvity and racial and gender pereferences

In all fairness, you must agree that democrats want to get increasingly involved in human life, too. Was in not democrats in New York who wanted to make trans-fats illegal in restaurants? What about mandatory helmet laws (though personally I think if you don’t wear your helmet, your insurance company shouldn’t have to pay if you injure yourself)?

Or how’s about social security? Shouldn’t I have a choice on how to invest my money (which is pulled out of my paycheck)? Why am I forced as to how to invest my money?

I agree that both parties are equally responsible for the budget mess. I am a Republican (but more of a fiscal conservative, really). I am absolutely disgusted by how the party of fiscal responsibility has allowed spending to get so out of control. I think certain Republicans who have voted for useless pork (remember a bridge to no where) deserve to be voted out of office so a message is sent that we will hold them accountable to principles.

Again tell me which part the republicans did not match, or out do them on?

In the last 8 years which started with a balanced budget the Republicans increased the national debt more than the sum of 1791-1985(?). Talk about hiding the forrest with a few trees

Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree with you on the reckless spending.

The budget was not balanced when bush took office. The national debt increased every year Clinton was President.

The budget was balanced; debt payments were exceeding debt growth. More importantly The National Debt was being converted from open market debt to citizen held (through SS). The meaning is rather significant. We would not risk having to beg foreigners to buy in to our debt because we would owe it to ourselves. Now we owe it to others and need help from the NON-US people, which is not good, not good at all.

GENERAL REMINDER

This thread has wandered off topic. Please return to the topic of the original post: Why aren’t liberal environmentalists happy about expensive oil?

Liberal environmentalists aren’t happy about anything. Ever… roanoker

The environmental lobby and the abortion lobby are tied at the hip. The evironmentalists firmly believe that there are too many people on the planet, using too many resources. They do not accept that God told man to fill the earth and subdue it. They do not accept that He gave man dominion over the earth. They see man as a destructive force on the planet and other life forms inhabiting it. They want to see fewer people using less energy. That is why the same people who oppose nuclear reactors and drilling in ANWR and support endangered species and ant-logging legislation, almost without fail support abortion on demand. I don’t mean to change the topic, but the answer to the OP’s question is that these senators don’t want their constituents paying more for gas. They simply want fewer people using the gas.

Of course any reasonable person wants cleaner air, and water and wants to respect all of the creatures God put on the planet. But the environmentalists tend to prefer the lesser creatures over man. This is why I have trouble with the modern environmentalist movement.

So why are conservatives happy about expensive oil?

Do they like the economic slow down?
Are they all oil sellers?
Are they anti-American and thus like the negitive effect on the US?

Just what is it about expensive oil that makes them happy?

My happiness is not dependent on the price of oil, which party controls congress or the white house, the state of the economy, etc, etc, tec…

I didn’t understand why the democratic Senators were so angry at the oil executives during the last hearing. These people all claim to want to reduce the use of oil in order to save the environment. It seems to me that one effective way to reduce the use of a given commodity is to raise the price.

It shows a lot of hypocrisy to claim to want 2 $ per gallon oil and reduce the use of oil simultaneously. That really can’t be done.
Because they want their cake and eat it too? 👍
