Why aren't liberal environmentalists happy about expensive oil?

I could make the same sweeping generalization about Conservative Catholics after reading this forum for a while…
Amen to that. There are trolls everywhere, especially OPs that feel the need to grind their political axe on a religious forum.

… because liberal environmentalists want the high cost of oil to be caused by high taxes (the revenues of which would go to government) and they do not want the money to be distributed to the various parts of the supply chain.

The libs do not want the high cost of oil to result in more exploration and more nuke, more coal, etc. They want the high cost of oil to result in more regulation and more bureaucrats and more environmentalist hires.

Actually, I would think Conservatives would be happier. Aren’t they all the rich people benefitting from those oil stocks?? After all, the poor people who can’t afford gas should have been responsible and prepared for this and saved up their money, right? 😉

So, rich people are all Republicans? Nope.

Being rich in and of itself does not equal conservative nor does being poor and liberal. I know of many rich liberals in Hollywood.

But what I do find interesting is that liberal anger for rapidly escalating prices is only aimed at some things. Oil for instance. The complaint is that the companies charge too much.

However, take rapidly escalating college tuition. I have seen no liberal complaining that colleges are charging too much. I have seen no House or Senate committee grilling college presidents on how much they are making. I have seen no grilling on how these colleges are paying football coaches millions of dollars that could justifiably be going to scholarships for lower income students. The general liberal answer is to increase student loans—so then there is more money available for colleges already swimming in money to charge more and leave students in poverty when they leave school.

That to me is a tragedy. Especially since college is one way for poor people to lift themselves out of poverty.

There probably a reason why liberals aren’t emphasizing that. I’ll give you a hint; it is a book that is named after a shape of a probability density function published in 1994.

And liberals aren’t all rabid environmentalists who advocate the elimination of the internal combustion engine either…

I was trying to make a point about the sweeping generalizations.

I agree with this. Adding, I also believe strongly in trade schools and technical schools. I have been in and around construction for most of my life and a useful trade and the school of hard knocks will make for the well off contractor/subcontractor. Not just anyone can pick up a set of drawings and build something.

I am all in favor of everyone that is a US citizen having the right to 4 years of college education at tax payor’s expense. If at the end of 4 years you have the grades and the placement tests, maybe go to medical or dental school. However, if you want to be a lawyer you have to pay 😃

If we taxed the endowments of some of these Ivy League schools we could probably pay for that!

Simply put, because people who’se motivations are evil and fueled by the devil aren’t ever going to be happy. Being a minion of the devil never makes people happy.

Most of them don’t know who they are in league with.

I rather have the money invested in nootropics research. That will increase educational performance if it pans out.

Good Grief, what a generalization!!!

What else is there to say about liberals who replace God with the environment, in terms of importance.
I just find it fascinating how many people on these forums know the mind of God and the future actions of all their fellow men. How can any of us decide who is going to Hell and who is not?? We know and try to follow Church teaching but we do not know the mind of God. We may know what a person’s actions are today, but we cannot predict what changes may happen in their heart before they die. I have read more than one definitive statements about who will be in Hell and who will not, and I cannot imagine that any of us should be presuming to know such things.

Who said anything about hell? Being a tool of Satan doesn’t mean we are all going to hell. We have all been tools of Satan, any time we sinned mortally. That’s what repentance is for.

I didn’t understand why the democratic Senators were so angry at the oil executives during the last hearing. These people all claim to want to reduce the use of oil in order to save the environment. It seems to me that one effective way to reduce the use of a given commodity is to raise the price.

It shows a lot of hypocrisy to claim to want 2 $ per gallon oil and reduce the use of oil simultaneously. That really can’t be done.
what it really shows is that populism is often at odds with common sense. but the democrats hardly have a monopoly on populism, in fact almost the opposite has been true since ronald reagan was elected president.
