Why aren't there on demand priestly miracles?

Notice, again from scripture, that Christ did that an awful lot. And to whom He addressed the questions. He did that to those who, through doubt and hardness of heart, questioned even Him. Something to ponder.
So, uhm, your not Jesus. Answer the question…with an answer.

OK. Exorcist priests.

What do you want, cemeteries emptied? Read your bible. That will happen, just not when one particular doubting Thomas demands it. It appears that God’s will is not to perform parlor tricks to please you on demand… He knows that you have substantial doubts in your heart. I am telling you that the answer to your question is another question, because the lack of faith is in your heart. It is you who have the doubts, it is you who demand miracles. Well, I have experienced miracles before the Blessed Sacrament. I demanded none of them.

If you do not have the faith to believe that Christ is present in the Blessed Sacrament, why should I believe that you are/were Catholic?

You want a miracle? How about Protestant unity? That would truly be a miracle…

It means that the Church has declared that ordained priest have the sole authority and power to summon the Holy Spirit and thereby have the Holy Spirit turn the bread into Christ’s flesh.

No other people possess this power. This power is derived, apparently through apostolic authority, but I am not sure how the Church can even know if they are doing it right…as their was no blue print left how to turn bread into Jesus’ flesh.

Trial and error to find the correct formula? Seeing as the accidents of the bread remain the same, how do they know if they are even doing it right? Maybe they are skipping an important step to allow for this sacred mystery to take place?!

That is what I meant.
**So, you mean like, you yourself can invite a priest over to dinner and he has the power to turn your Parker House rolls into Jesus? ** :rotfl:

Your laughing at my expense is inconsequential, in every possible meaning of the word.

If you take pleasure in watching people leave the RCC…very weak indeed.

Your missing the spirit of my post.

My skepticism is the fact that the Catholic Church claims that they have the apostolic authority for their priests to somehow receive the power, via the Holy Spirit, to turn bread into the the flesh and blood of Jesus.

The issue is not that I do not believe that miracles take place, the issue is that the Church has determined that they are able to grant the power, through the Holy Spirit and guarantee that all their ordained clergy can turn bread into the flesh of Christ.

If God wanted to turn bread into flesh, He would…that is not my concern. My concern is the belief that the Church states it has the power to turn an ordinary man into a person who has the power through the Holy Spirit, to turn bread into the flesh of the Son of God.

Even if the scripture was 100% crystal clear ( the words I speak are spirit) I still do not see where the Church believes it received the authority to give their priests the power to turn bread into Christ.

’ Do this in memory of me?’ I’m not sure how the Church believes that this is explicitly telling them that they are to ordain priests and grant them power to consecrate hosts at Mass.

Although, it is clearer why the Church believes that it has the authority and the belief to grant some of the acts the apostles performed and other actions, are not given to every ordained priest.
Hi, OTP!

…could your problem be that you read the Scriptures selectively?

If you read one passage and say “I can’t see how…” does that make it so?

If you truly would like to study the Holy Scriptures on this issue I can organize them for you to read through them–remember, I cannot give you Faith and I cannot change your mind or your heart; I can only point you to Scriptures and pray that the Holy Spirit enlighten you the the Truth!

Don’t then, it is of no concern to me.
I can tell (?) by your numerous and on-going posts here.

You are free to believe or not believe in anything, of course. Understand, however, that wherever you end up, you will have less than you did in the One church. You have heard us speak of God’s magnificence in His church. Nevertheless, fare well and we’ll pray for you.

He’s not, and that’s evident by both his attitude and the run-of-the-mill protestant questions that he asks in here.

But where does that say…" you will have the power to summon the Holy Spirit and turn ordinary bread into my flesh’ Only ordained Catholic priests will possess this ability’

Isn’t the Church reading allot into this?
…other than the Catholic Church there’s none that can claim Succession of the Apostles; other than the Church Founded by Christ none can be recepient of the Holy Spirit’s Full Grace.

What you claim as the Church’s claim is your rerusal to submit to Chirst mandate; this of course, as explain to you previously, is something that you can do since the Church will not send some “special forces” Priest to force you into compliance. But if you accept the Holy Scriptures (all of the Holy Scriptures) they will lead you to Christ’s Church and His Full Teachings.

…it seems that your limitation comes from a sola Scriptura perspective.

If you factor in Sacred Traditions you will find that the Church has been obedient to Christ’s Commandments.

I second James’ prayer for you One Time. I hope in time you will work out your differences with what you believe and how we practice. At least you are being honest about your doubts. A problem cannot be overcome unless one first admits there is a problem.

I would suggest you take your time about leaving and do one thing first - go on a retreat and talk to someone. If you still feel the same about your decision, then go for it, but if you don’t feel the same then start working on your spiritual life.

I think you should give the Church who has been yours for 30 years the benifit of the doubt so to speak, and get to know her a little better before you finalize your life changing decision. But I don’t know you and perhaps there is an underlying problem that is preventing you from experiencing the love you need to in the Church. I think if you go on a retreat and give someone the opportunity to help you, you won’t regret it.

May the peace of Christ remain yours and may you find the Divine Mercy you need to grow beyond your doubts and misunderstandings.

Peace,

Gail
Hi, Gail!

…if I read it correctly, I think you’ve missed the point… the Church was left 30+ years ago… it is only the “…riddle me this batman…” portion that has remained–once this facet is fully discarded atheism would be more openly professed.

Do you think he’ll return after changing his user name to T-Roll?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Funny how he would not read the exorcism article. It’s fascinating. It also answers his question. All I hear in response are…

…but wait! Isn’t that a sure miracle? …the Unity of the Body subdivided into myriads of distinct but equal doctrines which follow Genesis mandate to be fruitful and multiply? 😛
