Why can't homosexuals see that their behavior is an abomination?

I struggle against habitual temptations to several grave sins, and when someone reminds me that they are abominations, I feel thankful because it helps me to struggle against them. I certainly don’t find it hurtful.
First off homosexuality to just describe it as a mere “temptation” doesn’t go to depths to describe the experience of it. I want to hear positive messages of love and compassion.

Not “abomination.” The pain and the alienation I’ve had at the hands of the Church has gone on far enough. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to hear something about hope and love.

I don’t want another lecture on Old Testament of Sodom and Gomorrah. I get it at hands of the Evangelical Church as well. I know its a sin. Why else would I be celibate?

It is not all about you. It is about charity toward others and bringing them closer to God. Sometimes that means upholding the truth in a way that speaks to others.

I’m already struggling with celibacy, and and an exclusive homosexual orientation that did not respond to therapy. I don’t need you all saying the word “abomination.” It makes my struggle more painful and hurtful.

I know homosexual acts are a sin. They’re condemned in plenty of passages. But to constantly use language like that doesn’t help me at all. It only hurts me.,
I am so sorry these comments have been hurtful to you. I know you didn’t chose this cross you carry and I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to try to stay on course. I SO admire your effort.

Keep up the good fight - and ignore the hurtful comments. You are not alone - we all struggle with sin. My Priest said the greatest sin is Pride - so surely that is an abomination and we’re all guilty of that. Some of us more than others… 😉

God loves you and as sisters and brothers in Christ we love you, gay - celibate or not.
His grace is sufficent. Rest in that truth.

There’s nothing “mere” about temptation. Temptation is THE major problem that we have to overcome in this life.

You’ve heard plenty of love and compassion and hope here. Who here is giving you a lecture? Who here is trying to tell anyone that sodomy is a sin? Nobody here has denied the fact. As I said, the OP asked a serious question and I wish people would try to answer it instead of all this nonsense about “don’t use the word abomination, it’s hurtful”.

Why don’t you just let this one go?

Of course it’s not about me. That’s exactly my point: that I am trying to put myself in my neighbour’s shoes and feel what he feels, and trying to treat him as I want to be treated.

The op asked why homosexuals can’t see that their behavior is a sin. and “sexual abuse.”

They’ve gone above and beyond what the Church teaches. Homosexual acts are “disordered.” I’ve been answering the question all along by maintaining my celibacy and asking people to show more charity towards homosexuals like myself in general.
Homosexual behavior is a truly disgusting form of sexual abuse, but homosexuals can’t see it or experience it. Why? It must be the deception of Satan!
The OP assumed homosexuals couldn’t see the sinfulness of their behavior which I rejected because I am a celibate homosexual. So in effect I answered the OP’s question. I’m not deceived by Satan. And I’m one of many homosexuals who have realize their calling and vocation for celibacy and chastity.

Why don’t you just let this one go?
Because I get sick of this nonsense that every time someone mentions homosexuality as something other than positive and good, intelligent discussion is drowned by a chorus of kneejerk PC mantras of “you’re attacking me/them!”

I never said homosexuality was good.

All I’m asking for is what the catechism teaches “respect, compassion, and sensitivity.” I never said homosexuality was good. And a matter fact I think I said it was a sin on more than one occasion.

I’m also against same-sex marriage, adoption, and pretty much every major gay rights initiative out there.

The Op said homosexuals couldn’t see their ways were “abomination” and “sexual abuse” because of Satan. I rejected that because I am a celibate homosexual who is living a life for good.

You were not fostering intelligent discussion (I know it when I see it, believe me), nor was anyone saying we should consider homosexuality as “positive and good.”

Please do not throw your intellectual and moral baggage at those not meriting it.

No they haven’t. The Church teaches that homosexual orientation is disordered, and that homosexual **acts **are grave sins and an abomination.

If I have inadvertently been uncharitable to you I beg your pardon.

Obviously the OP’s question implies “Why can’t [ACTIVE] homosexuals see that their behavior is an abomination?” Surely this doesn’t have to be pointed out to you? If the OP had been taking about chaste homosexuals, what “behaviour” of chaste homosexuals do you think he was talking about? Sorry but your accusation seems quite groundless.

Whatever it is, we are called, as followers of Christ to love them and threat them with dignity and grace.

Why foster and encourage hate in the name of the God of love?

You may be the only Catholic they encounter. Live well, be kind and meek. You don’t have to approve of their lifestyle to do this. Let go of your will and seek to do the will of the Father. That means LOVE.

It’s not groundless and I did answer the OP’s question because they failed to provide the distinction. There was to imply because the question was very broad.

And you never addressed the fact you accused me of saying “homosexuality is good.”

I never said that. I just want to be treated with love and respect. And every time someone makes a post like this I have to jump in and try to make clarification.

No one said homosexuality was good.

Yes you did.

My apologies I misread your post. I sent you a PM with an owed apology. If anyone has been offended by my posts I’m truly sorry.

Unfortunately there’s a lot of hurt and pain for me in the Church and sometimes I get hypersensitive about these topics.

Forgive me.

You merit it completely, given that the words I posted were yours. When asked why you “didn’t let this one go,” you posted what I quoted. The statement obviously refers to the conversation at hand, otherwise it would make no sense.

The alternative, which should not be provided to you at all, is to backpedal and “clarify” (retroactively, of course) that those words did not apply to the conversation at hand, in which case that statement was totally irrelevant to this thread and consequently you will also withdraw your only reason for “not letting this go,” raising the question of why you have continued to post in this thread at all.

The choice is yours.

Sorry for expressing my honest thoughts and feelings, but isn’t that what CAF is for? How is this spreading hate? I alway espouse faith, hope and LOVE! Why accuse me otherwise?
