IMO, they get more training @ colleges in homiletics.
Really? You know this how?
Also, probably those attracted to the ministry are those who are drawn/inspired by great Protestant preaching.
"Great Protestant preaching" is based on Sola Scriptura and leads only to confusion and the 33,000 denominations we have today. “Great Protestant preaching” gives people the exact opposite of Catholic teaching.
Finally, because they in general lack a valid Eucharist … they of necessity must emphasize what they can offer to the flock.
Thier own authority above the Church’s authority.
Also, Protestants are not so prone to READING their liturgy. They are more extemporaneous with their sermons … more natural, perhaps allowing themselves to be more led by the H.S. The are more like Amos, from the OT [common men with heart and passion]. Men who can be used of God.
And you know they are led by the Holy Spirit…how? Because they say so? Open your phone book and count the number of churches in your area, they ALL claim to be ‘led’ by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not the author of confusion.
I can’t understand why so many Catholic priest don’t even have the liturgy memorized. You will often see them reading the liturgy … while the flock professes it by memory. I even see the priest READING the Nicene Creed, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist. One the otherhand, the Protestant pastors know all the key scriptures they use by heart … not needing to read the text.
**Total exaggeration and falsehood. Most Parishes I have been in the Priest has the Liturgy memorized, and so do the people. In a TLM I am amazed at how many have the Latin memorized.
Protestant pastors (depending on the denomination) also ‘read’ the passages. ‘Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God’ was read VERBAITUM by Jonathan Edwards. I have been in many a Protestant church that still does that. In many Episcopal Churches, the Priest does the same. **
IMO, the priests are often being lazy in their liturgical duties with the spoken word.
That’s quite a charge. Have you been in every Parish is the US? I live in a small town in WV, (as opposed to a big city) and I know this is false/
Find a Protestant pastor doing the same … and the flock will send him packing.
I knew of many! You think only Catholic priests have a corner on boring?
The Catholic Bishops need to get their ships in shape … in regards to Preaching at Mass. We are only as strong as our weakest link. When the priests are sloppy and unprepared with the word … the flock will also pick up their bad habits. Find a great priest, and the flock will be extrodinary. Find a poor priest, and the flock will be ho-hum. We must remember the Churches in Revelation that John describes … which one has ours become ?
**The Catholic Church is the One True Church of Christ. The Parishes of Revelation were not 'independent, unless you buy into the lie of dispensationalism. In regard to your first point, there are MANY priests out there who are not “sloppy and unprepared”. **
This is what so disturbs Father Corapi.
Except Father Corapi did not say what YOU are saying in this thread.
