I came across a Protestant site that claimed the ‘Hail Mary’ prayed by Catholics was the same as saying ‘Hail Satan!’ :bigyikes::bigyikes::bigyikes:
As a Protestant, I didn’t hate Mary, but I was under the impression (which many Protestants share) that Catholics worshipped Mary.
While Protestants may not ‘hate’ Mary, they treat her with all the respect you would give a packing crate. It’s like saying the Ark of the Covenant was just a box (Mary was the Ark of the New Covenant, so could she be just a woman?). Many cringe when they hear the term “Blessed Virgin Mary,” yet that term is Biblical.
It’s also interesting that many modern day Protestants reject beliefs held not only by generations of Catholic and Orthodox, but by the Reformers as well. For instance, Luther, Calvin and Zwingli, the architects of the Reformation, all believed in Mary’s perpetual virginity. Yet, this is denied by most present-day Protestants. Also, some of Luther’s writings seem to indicate that he believed in the Immaculate Conception (From a 1527 sermon: “But the other conception, namely the infusion of the soul, was without any sin, so that while the soul was being infused, she would be at the same time cleansed from original sin and adorned with the gifts of God to receive the holy soul thus infused. And thus in the very moment in which she began to live, she was without all sin…” A 1532 sermon ends with the words, “All seed except Mary was vitiated.”) I find it rather ironic that a Protestant Reformer voiced a belief in the Immacualte Conception three and a half centuries before it was declared as dogma!
