Why do the " Bad Boys" get so many women?

To defend JimG, and I believe he was right in his observation, “getting all the hotties” (to defend that poster in turn–it obviously was a joking figure) may suggest some kind of “action” (stress on getting). Something I turned attention to in regard to the opening post of this thread. JimG was right in pointing out that one’s basically looking for one and only partner for a lawful marriage anyway, so “getting” (multiple) hotties is pretty much irrelevant, while it’d be a good idea to spend a while pondering the “lifelong covenant” subject.
You probably made the point better than I could. Yes, it was beginning to seem to me with all the emphasis on “hotties” that the game was all pursuit with no end in mind.

And of course, there are a lot of “hotties” out there, so once you settle on one, there are presumably other criteria than hotness which will keep you together for life. And hotness may not last forever, but marriage will, and so will true love.

On a comical note, I am sensing an irrational emotional reaction in me to that irrational, emotional logic. 😉 In fact, I fear that logic and I would fear to enter into a life partnership with someone who followed that thought pattern. The way I see it, you want to go for the person interested in you, in whom you are also interested, so that you have a large bank of mutual interest. It doesn’t make sense otherwise.
To add to that, I was talking to a gal last night about the television programs The Bachelor and The Bachelorette (U.S. versions) and she made an interesting observation. She commented that of the couples both shows have produced, the ones that are still together are mainly the ones where the man pursued the woman, and not the other way around. Granted, it’s a small sample, but it’s another demonstration that supports the traditional thinking. :hmmm:

Personally, I’d rather women gave up on the moulding. I’m not going to keep insisting on it since people have a right to be wrong or silly, but just saying. If I married a woman of superior moral character to mine and she saw a way to help me become a better person by ‘moulding’ me like that, then I’d be grateful (I won’t really be dying for my own right to be wrong). But if she just likes changing people from what they are into something else, for no reason or in order to enjoy the ability, or in order to watch her will be done, then I’d much rather remain single.
Thank you for reminding me of that. As long as it’s for the better of a person and not the fun and games of a women. I give the credit to you for that reminder. Thank you.

@ Debora123: If we go after the quiet girls, it does nothing for us if she won’t talk. Meaning if she has a genuine interest in the man, and the man goes and talks to her, and she **doesn’t **open her mouth at all, how are you suppose to get to know her, and who she is? How are you suppose to crack that piece of ice, especially if she likes you? A woman who doesn’t talk when you talk to her and she has a genuine liking for you drives me to kick her away from me. That’s the biggest turn off ever.

I suggest trying to get a vidio of Dr Janet Smith.
She covers the topic with more sense than anyone I. ever heard.

You know what I mean.:yup:

The jerks, bullies, rowdy, smooth talkin’ ones never want for women hanging all over them.

While the nice guys are sitting there thinking “what the heck, I thought girls wanted nice guys.” :doh2:

C’mon guys, let em hear it, vent a little.:sad_yes:

C’mon girls, why do you go for them?:hmmm:
:flowers:
Sin is attractive, it was what lured Eve.
And that’s how it works for us.

In my experience I’ve seen several “nice guys” go for the “bad girl” types time and time again and avoid the “nice girls”. I haven’t seen many “nice girls” attracted to “bad boys” I think if anything that only happens when you’re younger. But I have several guy friends to overlook quality people for the bad news types. They are adults though have the freedom to make their own mistakes.

True that. I’ll be the first, well, maybe not the first, but I’ll still admit being attracted to maybe not “bad girls” but let’s say somewhat wayward women with some bad girl characteristics. One just needs to keep the big picture in mind, as well as the long-term perspective. It is much easier to avoid starting a bad relationship than to leave one.

Well, I wouldn’t overestimate the mere fact of who initiated it. If at all, the mere initiation of contact or even the pursuit by either the woman or the man would need be the tip-of-iceberg kind of external sign of something bigger underlying it. Such as a faint heart in the man or obsession in the woman. Also, I guess men aren’t normally used to being pursued, so they don’t know how to react. It’s awfully hard to turn a woman down for one (you feel like a total bastard if you do, well, at least I feel that way if I have to deliver the, ‘let’s just be friends’).
Thank you for reminding me of that. As long as it’s for the better of a person and not the fun and games of a women. I give the credit to you for that reminder. Thank you.
I’m glad my somewhat snappy remark was of any use. Hope the language wasn’t excessively harsh. I could’ve put it in milder terms. Apologies if I gave the impression of waging gender war.

Okay, I guess it may be of some use for the sake of discussion and some common search for the truth, so I can suffer some humiliating dissection. Basically, what drives me to ladies you wouldn’t exactly call “good girls”, well, not actually bad, but as I said, somewhat wayward, generally tends to be an engaging, rich, fresh personality, intelligence, elegance. All of which traits, incidentally, sociopaths are likelier to possess, at least on the surface, than the general populace (regardless of gender). I’m not attracted to their “bad sides”. In fact, I get sad and possibly even angry when they mention or joke about those bad sides, as I do whenever any woman insists on her right to have a bad girl side with the implication that morality gives way to pleasure, satisfaction or excitement in that bad side. In each single case, I’d much rather they didn’t do any of the bad things I see them do, all of which are excruciating for me and produce emotional sensations sometimes of an intensity that results in physical pain or other physical symptoms (strong emotions can mess with the metabolism). In connection with the foregoing, I am going to take offence if anybody suggests it is the bad traits (e.g. a too liberal attitude to sexual ethics, honesty, rights of others) that I am attracted to, that would simply not be true. In many cases, discovering those traits or rather seeing the woman in question act is if she possessed them (since you don’t really know about traits, you only see actions), feels like a gruesome realisation that begs the question: ‘why again’ (i.e. why is this happening to me again, in each and every case etc.) but the truth is that I can always trace at least some warning signs that I ignored because I was attracted (rather than because of being magnanimous enough to ignore something, which I guess I’m not incapable of but it isn’t really my dominant trait), I didn’t wait patiently in my single condition and so on. I suppose one should speak here about my being in denial about the woman concerned. I just fight against accepting obvious facts, it seems. Except that nothing is obvious and you can really be surprised if you misjudge people and classify them as lost cases. One of those women, for example, risked drawing the ire of three scary appellate judges by making commotion in the court room to pass me information when I was pressing a pro se case against the government. How do you tell somebody: ‘you’re not ethically kosher enough for me’ after that? So I guess I also understand women who stick with men whom the world considers the bad guys.

Frankly, it’s more productive to quit judging or even analysing and just focus on improving oneself. And there’s generally always something to work on. Which is not to deny that women are bad pickers. But so are men, in general.

(However, I would appreciate if historical novel writers gave up on the cliché of a distressed damsel falling in love with her rapist or could have been rapist. Too much is too much.)

On a final note, while thinking about these things, it once dawned on me that people are generally meant to complement each other, so in some cases it may be the specific man’s role in that specific relationship to provide the ethical backbone or the clear limits (as opposed to shades of grey), while it would be for the woman to provide something else, also important (love, charity, open heart, enjoyment of life, non-judgemental approach, some of which I saw in some of the ladies I’ve crossed paths with). Again, I guess it could be similar with those “good girls” being with “bad guys”. There may well have some traits that could be forged into something positive in connection with those women. For example instead of thugs, they could become defenders, supporters of the community. Instead of putting themselves first, they could direct their masculine energy in the service of the world, the community, ultimately God. As I recall multiple saints began their careers as quite the scoundrels before they were called, e.g. in connection with a different saint.

Eh. Gotta go back to work. I need to shovel three dayloads of office work until 14 hours from now. Incidentally, for all my “nice guy” exterior, you could call me a bad guy for failing to have started that work yesterday evening or today morning & afternoon. In turn that not so nice guy may be a type that always puts work first and doesn’t get distracted (and gets the results), which is actually a very positive trait, for all the unpleasant aspects of his attitude. Just to complicate your collective thought processes, guys, a little. Because I’m mean like that. 😉

Come to think of it, plenty of work isn’t bad. It gets your mind off stupid things. If there’s any advice I could give to disgruntled young “nice guys” from my own experience, it’s get work, get results, get productive. If you can’t, at least spend time trying. It’ll make your life all-round better in more ways than you can imagine. It’ll give you confidence, it will toughen you up (and you need to get tougher), it will give you the resources to take care of a woman (from dating to married life) and children, teach you responsibility, develop your talents, make you a better person. Find yourself thinking too much about being a nice guy women don’t seem to like? Just put your hands (or brain, or both) in some work. Only avoid putting excessive strain on your organism, which some people do when they turn into workaholics because of needing distraction from personal life.

As for dating multiple people, I’d prefer not to get into another non-exclusive vs exclusive dating debate but just in case, I’d be on the exclusive side when it came to active romance, with some reservation against applying exclusivity to mere conversations over coffee (which are nobody’s business).
I didn’t mean dating multiple people AT THE SAME TIME… I just meant the first person they date might not end up being “the one”… nor might the second one or third or fourth one.

My husband was the 3rd boyfriend I had.

Huh??

Who said anything about someone not talking? Just because a person may be a more introverted, more quiet, more conservative person, doesn’t mean they just sit there and stare at the wall and don’t open their mouths. Come on people, good grief!

Not true, seen it happen lots of times. Quiet women just seem prone to never asking questions, and it ends up feeling like an interrogation to the man even when they don’t ask questions, but say regular things to get the girl to speak up. Relationships are a 2 way street people. You have to speak up to get to know somebody.

Not everyone who’s quiet is unable to make conversation. You’re talking about extremes here. Even the quietest friend I have knows how to make conversation with people! She’s just not one of those loud, outgoing types.

I am not now nor have I ever been interested in a “bad boy.” Give me strong/quiet or gallant/chivalrous any day! 👍

That’s why I always say, the quiet people should always go for the loud, outgoing types, or the longwinded(people that talk forever) type of people. Makes an even middle ground.

A few thoughts:

First, can we ban the word “nice”? What does it even mean, in this context? I don’t believe “niceness” is necessarily a positive virtue. In this context, I’m reading it as “not a jerk or abusive or a cheater”. Well, yay you. For any emotionally healthy person, male or female, this is going to be a minimum requirement in the person they want to date. However, it is not sufficient to build a relationship on, if various other factors aren’t there. If a “nice” guy asks a woman out and she says no, it’s probably not because she “only likes bad boys”. It’s probably because she doesn’t feel an emotional/intellectual/spiritual/physical attraction to the “nice” guy. It’s not a judgment on his character, just her being, as they say, not into him. Men are not compelled to ask out women they are not into, and women are not compelled to go out with men they are not into.

Second, does anyone truly believe that all women, or all men, are all alike? That we are all nothing more than slaves of evolutionary psychology or biology or whatever? Thinking that way is probably one of the reasons people may be having a lack of success with the opposite sex. I think it’s important to see each person of the opposite sex as a unique individual and not merely as someone who may or may not go out with you. And I can’t believe that people are still trotting out that whole alpha male, beta male nonsense. Really, people. I believe in evolution, but we are not orangutans. We do have this little thing called Free Will, if we bother to exercise it.

P.S. That study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology is hardly “science”.

While reading this thread, I was reminded of something Karl Keating wrote in an e-letter some time ago. So I searched for it and found it. Here is an excerpt:

“Some speakers who have spoken for us, when first starting out, told their young audiences that somewhere out there was a Prince or Princess Charming, someone fated from all eternity to be a young person’s perfect match. Listeners were told something like this: “Save yourself for that one person that God has set aside just for you.” When I learned that this is what was being said, I told our speakers to cut it out–because it wasn’t true. It sounded romantic, and it sounded pious, but it wasn’t true.”

I urge everyone to go back and read it. It is a small antidote to excess romanticism, which is not love, and which can kill marriage if made the only priority.

Hmm, so you’re the one getting all the hotties! Do you plan on marrying one of them someday? How will you choose which hottie to settle down with in a lifelong covenant?
lol

well, for purposes of this thread, whoever he is, he will be someone that pays for all our dates. also, he will be someone that respects women and doesn’t bash them.

**Sometimes people have to date multiple people in order to find the right one. 🤷
**
Nothing wrong with that.

I suspect the prejudice is coming from the way she worded it, which is silly IMO. But I will let her defend herself if she would like.
yes, that would be me actually. i want a number of quality men to choose from. I tend to believe that you will know who the one is anyway on first sight but i still want the freedom to choose amongst an assortment of quality men.

Thank you for reminding me of that. As long as it’s for the better of a person and not the fun and games of a women. I give the credit to you for that reminder. Thank you.

you would have to ask her questions in order to get her to open up or you have to talk about subjects that are non threatening that allow her to just dive right into the conversation.
