…it doesn’t really matter to me because she is married and i get all the hotties she can’t have anyway. rotflol

the church teaches beauty is a good.
Hmm, so you’re the one getting all the hotties! Do you plan on marrying one of them someday? How will you choose which hottie to settle down with in a lifelong covenant?

Probably the same way all the rest of us choose which person to settle down with?? 🤷

I’m not sure why this poster is getting so much grief for saying one of the criteria she looks for in a date is physical/sexual attraction…

I think there is a lot of wisdom in your observations. 🙂
Thank you kindly, mellowcalico. I guess that membership in the Over Fifty Club has its rewards! (Alas, if only I knew then what i know now… ) But God is great. Whatever mistakes we make rarely surprise or shock our Heavenly Father. And wherever our future leads us, He is already there to embrace us! Love and chivalry:knight1::knight2: always win in the end.

I tried outmaneuvering, and I found out that going for a full offensive can actually work. (Please excuse the military jargon.)

Also, it is true that most of the bad boys ended up getting the really bad girls and then leave them. I’ve seen that happen many times in my life. It is saddening, but I can’t help but facepalm at the immaturity of both parties.
Yes, Crescentinus, you’re on the right path if you look for the good in everyone. :angel1:

Some say opposites attract, but as we are all meant to go through life following Christ’s example, we have to start with two caring people and work from there.

The elegant solution may be to find those similarities above first before venturing further. People secure within their own psyches need not spend years being confused by those who are not. That’s why, in times past, good character and exemplary reputation were expected norms, where today, shock value and self-promotion seem to be lauded.

W.B. Yeats said it best in his “Poem for my Daughter,” when he wrote

“Where else but in custom and in ceremony is beauty to be born?” :heaven::harp::highprayer:

If we seek those higher things, then even life’s meanest circumstances cannot assail us. Some of the finest people I know have been perhaps too trusting, yet God knows our souls and will always show us the most elegant solutions even in the most trying times.

We see in one of the world’s most beloved films, “Babette’s Feast,” for example, that the choices we make in life may seem to define us. But in the end, we need never despair, because “Mercy and judgement shall kiss.” The mistakes, the choices, the seemingly unforgiving circumstances that imprison us can and will come around if we only ask for the miracle of God’s love to transform us.

She might ask you what kind of girls you have been pursuing so far. You might find yourself in need of making the conclusion that you haven’t exactly pursued the good girls.
Good point. And yet, I have been pursuing the good girls. 🙂

I have a better answer to that question.
Girl: Where are all the nice guys!?
Me: You threw men like me away so you can be with bad boys.

😃
Good point. And yet, I have been pursuing the good girls. 🙂
So basically you’re saying that the reason you haven’t found the right person yet is because EVERY girl dates bad boys… Even the intelligent, devout Catholic “good” girls, according to you, only date the bad boys.

That is very incorrect and almost offensive.

You misunderstood me.
You see, that was my answer to those women who have been complaining “Where are all the nice guys?”.
Nothing offensive there.

I have been away from this thread because it is getting repetitive. But a quick glance has bothered me.

Do ALL of the good girls go for bad boys? Come on.
Do ALL of the good Christian boys go for bad girls? As a Christian good boy who NEVER went for the bad girls I find that insulting.

Let’s stop generalizing how bad everyone really is. There are plenty of good people who want good people to date.

^This, I happily agree with. 🙂

Did you every think that with the way society is, where the bad boy ends up with the girl, and the girl tries the change the bad boy and turns into failure. Maybe it would be better for the girl to mold the good guy instead. It seems that if it the good guy is able to do anything for the girl, he would be easier for the girl to mold him into the man that you want, instead of trying to mold someone you know you can’t only to end up with heartbreak. Just my thought. But please take it into consideration.

To defend JimG, and I believe he was right in his observation, “getting all the hotties” (to defend that poster in turn–it obviously was a joking figure) may suggest some kind of “action” (stress on getting). Something I turned attention to in regard to the opening post of this thread. JimG was right in pointing out that one’s basically looking for one and only partner for a lawful marriage anyway, so “getting” (multiple) hotties is pretty much irrelevant, while it’d be a good idea to spend a while pondering the “lifelong covenant” subject.

Sometimes people have to date multiple people in order to find the right one. 🤷

Nothing wrong with that.

I suspect the prejudice is coming from the way she worded it, which is silly IMO. But I will let her defend herself if she would like.

Haha, something here reminded me a bit of the song Call Me Maybe…

And all the other boys,
try to chase me,
but here’s my number,
so call me, maybe?

She’s only interested in the boy who isn’t chasing her, which completely backfires on her, because it turns out he’s gay. :rotfl:

Personally, I’d rather women gave up on the moulding. I’m not going to keep insisting on it since people have a right to be wrong or silly, but just saying. If I married a woman of superior moral character to mine and she saw a way to help me become a better person by ‘moulding’ me like that, then I’d be grateful (I won’t really be dying for my own right to be wrong). But if she just likes changing people from what they are into something else, for no reason or in order to enjoy the ability, or in order to watch her will be done, then I’d much rather remain single.

I’ve actually heard a young woman say she would like to have a gay boyfriend. I asked her what she’d be doing with him. (Note: I don’t support premarital sex.)

On a comical note, I am sensing an irrational emotional reaction in me to that irrational, emotional logic. 😉 In fact, I fear that logic and I would fear to enter into a life partnership with someone who followed that thought pattern. The way I see it, you want to go for the person interested in you, in whom you are also interested, so that you have a large bank of mutual interest. It doesn’t make sense otherwise.

But people are capable of warped routines like thinking that someone who treats them badly is probably a better person than they are (more desirable, better genes, higher class etc.) or else he or she wouldn’t be acting like that.

Challenge is vastly overrated. IMHO it’s probably internally inconsistent anyway.

Well, everybody has the freedom of speech. Works both ways, others have the right to comment.

As for dating multiple people, I’d prefer not to get into another non-exclusive vs exclusive dating debate but just in case, I’d be on the exclusive side when it came to active romance, with some reservation against applying exclusivity to mere conversations over coffee (which are nobody’s business).
