Why do you think God allowed Protestantism?

The reformation was allowed so that one would follow James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God who giveth to all men librally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given.” I was raised Catholic and the extent of my bible study was CCD and listening to the readings on Sunday and the Priest. What did I get out of it? The desire to know more and how those readings applied to me and how to become a better person. The more I searched the Catholic church the more I was led to the Protestant churches. Why? I personally was driven to discover why they broke away from the Catholics in the first place. Now, no one get their feathers ruffled. You can’t help but wonder what the Protestants had a problem with. Besides if your testimony of the Catholic church is that strong and you believe fully in the Catholic church then the Protestant churches’ beliefs shouldn’t be scary. Your testimony should still stand strong. If it doesn’t then you probably found some additional truths in the Protestant churches that will lead you to further investigations. If your testimony does stand up despite the investigations into Protestantism, than so be it. But, bashing non-Catholics is just wrong. In fact bashing of any religion is just offensive to me. What’s wrong w/learning about Christ in whatever church you want. When we die we will find out. In the meantime, I didn’t read anywhere in the bible where it says to destroy all humans who aren’t Catholic.

God allows, why?

Did God not place the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the midst of the garden?

The tree of knowledge of good and evil was the culprit in humanity becoming lost?
No! Of course not! I think you need to re-read the story again. It is pretty clear who the culprit is. It is a person.
Code:
 Had Eve
** not**** partaken of that tree, there would be no death?

Could we say then that knowledge killed?**

It is very possible that, had Eve obeyed God, there would be no death. No, knowledge does not kill. Disobedience kills.
And that God would allow it to be there would be a sort of a stumbling block to Eve?
No. A “stumbling block” is something that affects people under the consequences of original sin (having a sin nature) or as the Latin Rite calls it “concupiscence”.

God, in His love created humanity in His own “likeness and image”. This means He made us with free will. We are able to choose the good, or the evil.
The reason for two opposing sides of things is offering a choice?
Yes. Deut 30:18-20
19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live, 20 loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice, and cleaving to him; for that means life to you and length of days, that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them."
Protestantism, is a matter of choice based on the parameters set fourth in the bible.
No, not really. Protestantism has at it’s root “protest”. It was formed by persons “protesting” against the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church built by Christ, founded upon the Apostles and Prophets. Of course you are right, it is always a choice to rebel against what God has commanded. Adam and Eve rebelled against God’s commandment. During the Reformation, people rebelled against the authority appointed by Christ. They did not trust the clergy, because they were impious and behaved wickedly. So, they tried to replace the authority appointed by Christ with Scripture.
What are those parameters? That the old was crucified and the new is given as a gift.
This is Catholic Teaching.
What falls in between those two, is the practice.
Practice your new gift via the Catholic church or in Protestantism.
What you are saying, it seems, is that it does not matter if Jesus wanted unity in His Body.
The point, that the gift is accepted with great appreciation, such that it is a life changing experience.
I agree that the work of the HS is life changing, where and when it happens. It is right for man t appreciate it. However, our experience is not the standard by which we should measure, but by the commandment of God. If we go by our own experience, however appreciative we may be, we then fall into the same sin of Adam and Eve, determining for ourselves what is best for us.

John 17:21-23
22 The glory which thou hast given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and thou in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that thou hast sent me and hast loved them even as thou hast loved me.

It is Jesus’ desire that we be One, so that the world may know HIm.

We may not agree on everything, but the reasons are many. I don’t dislike you because you attend a different church. “Whoever loves God must also love his brother.”
There is allot said on religious forums, but this truth spoken by Jean, is Jean-u-ine.

An absolute, in fact we are commanded to do so.

although in the beginning yrs of the “reformation” there was a lot of satanic stuff going on…>>>Distracted
Evil is in the eye of the perpetrator, and not in the eye of the believer.

The simplest reason for blame is the milk of the word.
A baby in similitude is what a baby christian is.

The milk of the word is bottle fed a baby christian until it is weaned off the bottle and into more meaty things in of bible as per age, ability to understand and experience.

Many of us have been growing consistently towards spiritual maturity, though we have our ups and downs due to our imperfection.

The meat of understanding about the tree of knowledge is not that it was an apple and disobedience, but and understanding that because of knowledge gained in life we became as gods, with free will, and therefore, alienated, separated from God, meaning death.

Hence, it takes God’s deliverance and not our own.
It is very possible that, had Eve obeyed God, there would be no death. No, knowledge does not kill. Disobedience kills.
Knowledge does kill the soul as per Adam and Eve being cast out, after the partaking of the fruit of knowledge.

God understood this as part of His creative process, that is why He also placed a tree in the same garden as the tree of life.

Had we had knowledge already and no death, there would have been no need for the tree of life being there to.

Give yourself some time to think about that.
No. A “stumbling block” is something that affects people under the consequences of original sin (having a sin nature) or as the Latin Rite calls it “concupiscence”.
God, in His love created humanity in His own “likeness and image”. This means He made us with free will. We are able to choose the good, or the evil.
I will agree with all you said except I want you to re-read the last two sentences, by which you placed them in it rightful order, but the understanding is that free will is the ability to judge between two opposing sides, and the two sides are given to all of us, not just to Adam and Eve.

That, by my understanding is the curse to all of us, better known to many as the original sin.

The word “protest” is a label place on by the church on those who would challenge the authority of the Catholic Church.

If you can understand after studying the stories of Israel’s relationship with God through out their whole ordeal, you will find that though they were supposed to be the pillar of truth (God’s voice) to the world that they failed not once but many times to keep what was entrusted to them in right standing with God.

Why suppose that was so? And is it was with them then, can it not be so today with any of us?

The Catholic Church is perfect in message, about Jesus I mean, but was not necessarily perfect in it’s actions because within it’s governing body was the human element involved.

Likewise was it with Israel, the same exact thing.

Protestantism, was a means to addressing those issues that were misleading and by which God used as an instrument to bring correction to those issues.

The bible is the only source by which anybody, catholic or not, can find life, I mean spiritual life via the born again experience into the family of God.

I will not argue with you on the necessity for me or anyone to became a member of the Catholic Church in order to be born again, for I understand that it takes place in my souls heart, and that there is where the temple of God is.

Temple meaning here is God being the head.
This is Catholic Teaching.
You see, we both are members of that heavenly family via the rebirth of our souls from a dead state to one of life, Brother or Sister.
What you are saying, it seems, is that it does not matter if Jesus wanted unity in His Body.
It does matter, in that Jesus wanted us in unity of spirit, not necessarily in unity of place of worship. That’s where divisions arise.

Agreeing in spirit that Jesus came in the flesh as the Son of God, is believing in His salvation, therefore born again into the family of God, where Jesus is the head of that spiritual family.

We should both have fellowship in that same spirit, regardless of what church we choose to attend.
I agree that the work of the HS is life changing, where and when it happens. It is right for man t appreciate it. If we go by our own experience, however appreciative we may be, we then fall into the same sin of Adam and Eve, determining for ourselves what is best for us.
The underlined words above deals with the experience.

The experience of life is where love is born, in the midst of hell, Christ gave life to the world.
Had He not experienced it, me and you would have had no hope,

So, yes, we are experiencing different life styles, different religious beliefs, different times and ages, yet the spirit of God remains the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.

That spirit by which we honor Him is the spirit of love, we have one to another, and love has no bounds.

Good discussion!

Your testimony should still stand strong. If it doesn’t then you probably found some additional truths in the Protestant churches that will lead you to further investigations.
Jesus started ONE Church… Every Catholic has some gripe against the Church or another… but the bottom line is: you can’t just up and leave because there is only One true Church… to leave the Church is to leave Jesus… His Real presence is THERE in the Catholic Church… in a tangible way… and it is NOT anywhere else…

In fact Jesus didn’t start any such thing as a “Church.” His commision to Peter has been misused as a tactic to found what is now a political machine that uses your good faith as a commodity. That does not impinge in the least bit on the Sonship of God, nor on your ecxellence in devotion.

If there is any tangibility of Jesus in the Church it is because you yourself put it there. Otherwise it would be felt by everyone as a commonality of experience. Can the Presence of the Son of God be tangible and palpable? Absolutely! But that experience is not in the least bit dependent on the Church, its teachings, or dogmas. In fact, if anything those are prophylactic to a genuine experience, IMHO. Those who experience the Presence of the Son “through” the Church are likely either emotionalizing or have done so despite the Church as a victory of sincerity over teaching. Your opinion that such Presence is singluarly the property of a construted and construed faith system of man is… well, you know, flushable. Wake up.

Gotta say, that is a little offensive…
Singing,
Maybe it was because of indugences or other early abuses that occured in the Catholic church. This is all history which can be found on the net.
No one is perfect, not one. 🙂

God bless,
jean

What is Advaiest Roming catholic mean? Nancy

Thanks for asking Nancy, but that is not relavant to the thread. You may ask me by private message or go to my profile page and look up my posts to get an idea if you wish to persue it. But short answer: it has to do with an epipahny I had regarding a very unpopular (amongst Catholics) and ancient understanding of John 3:16.

hmmm…i dont recall the bible stating that jesus started ANY church…as far as the idea of a person leaving jesus if they leave the church, i would have to say that that way of thinking appears a bit intolerent and would drive away more people than it would attract…fd

Jesus mentions founding His Church on the Rock of Peter in Matthew 16:18. There are also a great many references to His church from the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, all the way through to the end of the Book of the Revelation of the Apocalypse of St. John (aka Revelation in some Bibles, or in other Bibles, Apocalypse)

It’s not about marketing in the sense of getting as many bodies as possible into the seats; rather, it’s about promoting the truths of Jesus Christ to as many people as possible. One of those truths is that Jesus established a Church, and means for us to be members of it. We would be cheating people of their God-given right to be a Church member, if we failed to mention it.

you speak of things you know not of…

i would ask if you have spent any time in the Real Presence… but why should i?

I already know the answer…

well then you obviously haven’t read St mt 16:18 and then there’s (i think) 1 tim 3:15 that speaks of the Church as being the Pillar of Truth…

if the truth sounds intolerant, maybe it is because some cannot tolerate truth… ?

hopefully it is (usually) more to the point that they cannot tolerate truth that they do not understand… truth that doesn’t jibe with their own subjective reality…

which reminds me: that’s why i like the Real Presence… it is (He is) Objective Truth …
We can take our subjective realities to him There… and… well, i can only speak for myself and yet some things are true for everyone…
all i know is that i love being There… even if the Truth doesn’t alwyas feel so … comfortable…

not that the starting of the Church cannot be found in the Bible…

but - as you may know - all truth cannot be and never was intended to be crammed into the Bible, a relatively small book… A book cannot contain God…

A Church can especially when God wants it to…

There was the Ark of the Covenant where God’s presence was with the Hebrews… Why would he come to us then and not now… esp since Jesus has come?? He said that He would never leave us… (st Mt 28:20)…

i hope you get a chance to be with Him in the Real Presence…

people can tell you about hawaii… but if you’ve never been there… well…

Detales listen, for this is truth. I have had surgery on my back and i ahve been in alot of pain and since I came back to the church i do not have any more pain and I can walk better, and go up and down stairs better and I can dance like I did way before my back became so bad. If i did not have the operation I would have been severly crippled. I will not explain to much more here but I know since I have recieved communion at the church I have been just like I was as a child, I feel alot differnt, alive and able to do things I could not before. This is no mind over matter, there is no way you can have severe problems and then they just go away like that. I usto wear braces and they are not around any more, you go figure. God Is good! Love of Christ Nancy. Remember all the people who have been healed from believing, those things you cannot take away.

wow… wonderful testimony. thanks…

once i had this bad condition where i was coughing up massive phlegm and coudn’t even go out in public 'cause had to deal with the problem every 2 minutes… I also had another minor physical problem … One day i was praying the rosary and i stopped and said a simple prayer, asking God to give me health. I figured that in a couple weeks i would start feleing better… but i didn’t… I felt better IMMEDIATELY and the bad lung condition cleared up… as soon as i prayed!!! Blew me AWAY!!!

God, in this instance, went way beyond my faith… 🙂

Name one or two reasons you think God allowed Protestantism.

I think one reason might be that Catholicism is so… difficult, that maybe God wanted there to be an “easier, softer” way that would lead people to Christ (and He knew that many would then be led to the RC Church)?? Just a thought.

Also, i think that Protestants generally focus on different things than Catholics do, different “aspects” of God, things that are nonetheless very important… like, well… i just think that sometimes they are more… friendly… & i feel they may trust in God’s mercy more than a lot of Catholics…
This is like asking why did God allow satanism? genocide? murder?

It’s a stupid question.

We all have free will. Those who chose not to follow the one true church, did so, due to the fact that they have free will.

Distracted, had you spent any time (impossible, “time” doesn’t apply) in the Real Presence, You would never make such a comment, and you would know that no one is ever out of the Real Presence save by thinking so. So you have, either way. That is Absolutely wonderful!
