Why doesn't God heal homosexuals?

We need to stop treating “homosexuality” differently from other disorded, non-complementary sexual attractions.

There are what Aquinas/Aristotle (and the Church) calls “rational appetites” (e…g, the will) and the “sensitive appetites”.

And within sensitive appetites there are all manner of disorders that can develop.

Men (and women) can develop all sorts of fetishes and attractions, sexual and other…

time to put homosexuality into that bucket and to stop treating it - for PC reasons - as a totally different form of sexual appetite.

Pope Benedict beautifully, profoundly reminded us that eros needs to be perfected by agape.

True homosexuality is actually pretty rare. Most ‘homosexuals’ are actually bisexuals who get shunned out of other communities until they find a home in the LGBT community.

I imagine this is true of some persons. Do you have any data to quantify the spread? A great many persons in same sex sexual relationships assure us they have no interest in the opposite sex (or if they do, it is very much reduced). I doubt they are all brain-washed. To be meaningful, “bisexual” must be such that the level of attraction to each sex is not too different.
So the research really started with Kinsey scale, and his Kinsey scale 0-6 in 1948 with 0 being totally straight and 6 being totally gay. 4% of his sample were a 6. The problem is that a lot has changed since then, a major difference today is that in secular society, gay is more accepted than bisexual. Especially within the LGBT community: https://www.huffingtonpost.com/the-establishment/bisexual-invisibility-the_b_9177988.html

So in the reporting of the numbers you get frankly ridiculous answers like “straight men who have sex with other men… occasionally”. So not i don’t have any hard data sorry and it wouldn’t be reliable if i did because even the self reporting is delusional at times. I heard a reference to a study that ~30% of american adults had achieved orgasm with a member of the same sex but i didn’t read it and it doesn’t answer your question directly anyway. Sometimes i’m content to be roughly right than precisely wrong.

Because paedophillia cannot be explained in terms of evolutionary psychology. I don’t believe it occurs naturally in humans (i.e. at birth).

I am not aware that any Phillia or homosexuality has an identified cause.
For homosexuality, there are massive correlations with environmental factors contained in the studies i’ve been arguing over. Pedophilia again has massive correlations with social disorders. But correlation is not causation.

You must be reading a different Catechism. Same sex attraction is not a sin. Homosexuality is a sin. In case you are not aware “acts of grave depravity” means it is a sin.
Homosexual acts are the things - unequivocally - of “grave depravity”. The other words all suffer from various levels of ambiguity in their common usage. Some are using “homosexuality” to refer to the participation in acts, others to the direction of attractions.

Do you have any data to quantify the spread?
I don’t know of any studies and this would be difficult to attempt due to the fluidity of bisexuals and the fact that, just like cis-het people, bisexuals aren’t attracted to everyone of the sex they are attracted to. You’ve probably observed someone with the idea that homosexuals are more sexually active than heterosexuals and every gay man is attracted to all men or random men. Usually people have a type; I have a type, though I don’t find most men that attractive (probably because a man’s character and behavior will override anything physically attractive…I think.) Both points make it difficult to measure.

I too can read English and have a BS in Genetics and an MS in Biochemistry. The percentages I gave were from the articles I provided. I provided the scientific articles with factual data that indicate that homosexuality is environmental not genetic.

Again FYI, I have no reason to argue agains a genetic link…if there were, scientists could identify the cause and medically treat the person.

Attraction is not a voluntary thought or fantasy. It is a temptation. Temptation is not sin.
Correct. The moral evaluation of acts depends on acts being “knowingly chosen”. The most heinous act committed while sleepwalking is not morally imputable. That includes beating one’s wife.

So it’s not possible that i can show you a quote from the second study that acknowledges a genetic factor (which you deny)?

That “finding” is in reality more than a passing glance and drawing a conclusion. It’s looking, it’s delving, it’s lusting, it’s remembering.
When a 14 yo boy finds a 13 yo girl attractive, is this how you describe the events?

STTOOOOOOP. THIS POST WAS A DISCUSSION ON WHY GOD DOESN’T MIRACULOUSLY HEAL HOMOSEXUALS. But I now know that he is through Courage. It’s not the way I imagined, but having an apostolate dealing with SSA in the Catholic church is miraculous enough.

I’ve heard miraculous cures of cancer, genetic disorders etc. but just not this one. Why?
There are testimonies of people who say the are ex-gay after prayer. Do you consider those miraculous or do you have other criteria? Are you talking about documented cures or undocumented cures? That you haven’t read about a pedophile being cured isn’t surprising.

Depends on what the post-pubescent male does with the moment, the image, the thing that is presented to his senses.

Does he let himself become attached to that image? Dwelling on it, sharpening it, or worse.

Or does he move on to the next thing in life?

BINGO!!! Exactly.

Now why do you assume, when I say that I’m same-sex attracted, that I don’t “move onto the next thing in my life”? I assure you that I don’t see a handsome man, and stop to dwell. I haven’t the time to, among other reasons.

I think you have a “feeling” or a “belief” which is unquantified and having limited evidence in support, so care should be exercised in being too adamant about its truth or utility.

The false “I can’t control my sexual desires” has been promoted since the late 1960s. Whether a heterosexual or homosexual, who decides to engage in heterosexual or homosexual behavior? The Church? The State? No, each one of us as individuals. As a recovering porn addict I can say with certainty that prayer, avoiding temptation, and continued prayer leads to something that was quite common: Self Control. Sure, I’m still tempted but ongoing prayer has put my desires back to self control with the Grace of God. At first, I found it hard to believe I would get out of my situation, but with God’s help, I realized: controlling my passions was possible. SELF Control is possible. Just pray and keep praying and trust in God. Homosexual attraction will remain to some degree just as heterosexual attraction will remain. God is there to help all of us to live chaste lives.

I didn’t answer at all to your own situation. My entire response in this thread is to suppose 3rd person.

What in us makes us want to turn every conversation into our own situation?

Homosexuals - over some period of time - have trained themselves to be attracted in a disordered fashion, much the way some people learn to get addicted to certain types/kinds of porn, or even hetero males get attracted to big women/short women/other race women/bondage/two women…etc.

The sexual faculty is very poorly understood…the most certain thing about it is that it is highly addicting; changing our wiring around, honing new forms of attraction is certain.

The sex life of most homosexuals is very different from most heteros…more partners, shorter hookups, rest area pickups along highways, it’s really all over the map.

True. I work in probability statistics monday to friday and have a lot of personal interaction with certain members of the LGBT community so i trust my gut on this issue. I’m not saying you need to trust my gut but if you have any counter evidence then I’m always happy to give it a read.
