Why have I been cursed?

Pills, alcohol and other stuff will not take problems, sadness and grief away.

There is only one thing. Sit in silence and accept reality. Pray, ask for the guidance to do the next right thing. Tell Your Creator all, ask for help.

I haven’t prayed and really feel like never praying again,
Don’t give into satans temptation and that is what this feeling of not wanting to pray anymore and to just give up.

OBJECTIONS TO PRAYER #2726 " In the battle of prayer, we must face in ourselves and around us erroneous notions of prayer ." and “Those who seek God by prayer are quickly discouraged because they do not know that prayer comes also from the Holy Spirit and not from themselves alone. "
#2728 “… we experience as failure in prayer : discouragement …” and “The conclusion is always the same: what good does it do to pray? To overcome these obstacles, we must battle to gain humility, trust, and perseverance.”
#2734 " Filial trust is tested - it proves itself - in tribulation.22 The principal difficulty concerns the prayer of petition , for oneself or for others in intercession. Some even stop praying because they think their petition is not heard.”
#2737 “Do not be troubled if you do not immediately receive from God what you ask him; for he desires to do something even greater for you, while you cling to him in prayer.”
I suggest you read the whole of ARTICLE 2: THE BATTLE OF PRAYER from the CCC.

Pills can help if there is a chemical imbalance. We should not dismiss them out of hand and say they are useless.

We can’t provide the OP with medical advice. But we can encourage him to go to his GP with an open mind.

Agreed.
Depression can and does affect the spiritual life. It makes one view life or current problems as insoluble/never ending with no light at the end of the tunnel. It leads one to cease struggling and to just give up because the effort needed to continue to fight is just too much. The person suffering from depression is mentally, emotionally and consequently physically exhausted.
Antidepressants correct the imbalance of chemicals in the brain. As these are returned to proper balance, function, the depressed person is able to think more clearly/rationally/logically/realistically. So it “lifts” one burden which allows you to gather your strength to continue to persevere in life, and to not feel so overwhelmed by lifes’ problems.
I believe they do have their place in treating clinical depression. Which is different to someone just feeling down.

Seriously, the Psalms are the answer! and just talking to the King of the Universe, really running to Him like a child asking for help with all your strength and might.

He is all around you all the time, only the ego lies to us and says that isn’t so. He doesn’t go,away ever. Its we, who forget Who to turn to.

there will be comfort somehow. Or, as has been with me, there will be the strength to stand the grief. It really isn’t that bad to have to live years and years with pain either. Even if you can barely do it, at least you do get that strength to go on. Some days are better than others too. Mostly its a matter of slowing down, acceptance and adjustments to what has become the new reality. There is always something to be done spiritually and to get better at trust and faith too. and seeing how things work out after having run to The All Powerful Lord Almighty for help.

Pills don’t make problem go away.
No they don’t. But the do help you to think more clearly, to see things in a different light, and to be able to think or find solutions to problems or if things cannot be changed at the present time, it allows you to adapt, to accept this, but also realise that there is light at the end of the tunnel, that things can get better, and to hold onto hope that “all things are passing”, to put one foot in front of the other.
Perhaps instead of looking at a never ending future/ irreformable situation, take things one day at a time. Deal with one day at a time. Even break the day down into quarter or half hour segments, and get through each one. For example, now is the time to get my children ready for school. Done. Next is to take children to school and return home. Done. Next is to wash the dishes in the sink. Done, etc etc. Take it one thing at a time, one day at a time.

I’m not advising OP to start taking fistfuls of random pills or drink himself into a stupor. I’m advising him to go to a psychiatrist and discuss whether medication might be a good idea in his case.

You counseling against medical advice is pretty irresponsible.

I did not say they were useless. I said they don’t change the problems.
If the problem is chemical imbalance, they most certainly can change the problem. It’s no more a “cop-out” than taking antibiotics for an infection.

we shouldn’t be making that judgement on here. We should be giving spiritual remedies.

Meds are not the first port or call for what the op said. Curses wont be cured with meds. Feeling cursed is not s medical problem. If you think feeling cursed is a medical problem it would still be better to give spiritual remedies rather than diagnose the op as needing a physician.

tbh I found it a cop out that the firwt few answers on here were to go to a psych and get meds
It isn’t a cop out at all. It is a tool that God has given us to help us. God inspires others to become doctors nurses etc. This is to enable us to seek physical healing for ailments. Whilst God does grant miracles of healing and yes we should ask for healing, we shouldn’t scorn other helps He has provided in the form of doctors.
Prayer should not be discounted either.

The OP says he feels empty, he can’t cope with events in his life. He’s feeling that his own coping methods are not working. He feels hopeless.

This is something that can be helped by a therapist.

And there is no reason why we cannot provide both spiritual support and advising the OP to see a GP.

We certainly should not be telling people NOT to seek medical advice. Telling that to someone you know nothing about is extremely irresponsible.

You aren’t qualified to make this call. Feeling “cursed” might be the result of a medical condition. Sometimes feelings aren’t actually accurate, you know.

Besides, it’s not either/or. OP can pursue both medical and spiritual treatment. It’s not like by talking to a doctor he has to give up spiritual treatment.

But the op said they felt cursed and you are basically telling them their mind isn’t working right and to go get meds. Its sort of insulting to the op dont you think?

No. It’s advice based off of why he’s said he feels cursed and how that’s made him feel as a result.

Sounds to me like you have a lot more faith in meds than you do in The All Powerful Creator of The Universe.

Now that’s sad.
That’s isn’t true, nor did I say such.

But I’m not so prideful that I’d expect God to grant me a miracle of healing just because I prayed, or tried to pray away the greyness.

I do believe we should ask God to lift us up when we are feeling discouraged especially in the spiritual life.

Feeling down or discouraged is completely different to clinical depression.

Or perhaps if someone is suffering any other mental illness , would you recommend they stop taking the medication they’ve been prescribed and to just pray or read the Bible?

As we are both body and spirit, we are to seek medical help for ailments, to care for our bodies and not to neglect them.

I don’t think it is one or the other situation. I think both are needed - prayer and medical intervention if a medical professional deems such is necessary.

When one is either depressed or even just feeling really really down or overwhelmed, a person could easily think they are cursed as a way to explain why things are the way they are or why things keep happening like they do. But having depression can also lead one to think along those lines too. And as others have pointed out above base on what the OP said, I don’t think clinical depression or some other illness can be ruled out and discounted as of no import on the situation.

I just don’t think you should be telling people that they need a physician for feeling their feelings. I feel like that is proud.

I’m not living in the USA anymore and I realize that people there use a lot more medicationsall the time, but I did think here on CA people would steer away from this sort of advice.

By the way I never stated anything like the things you accuse me of having said.

I suggested the Psalms, to read David’s way of dealing with despair and crisis after crisis. I also suggested prayer.

I think its proud to think Our Creator would not answer a sincere and heartfelt prayer muself.
