One more note about John Haffert.

I think it is a shame that hardly anyone knows who he is or how much he did to spread devotion to Our Lady of Fatima and the all night vigils and the five First Saturdays, as well as devotion to the scapular.

If anyone is interested in reading his books, the 101 Foundation has all of them for sale, and at a very reasonable price.

It’s the only place to get his books new at a reasonable price. I am well aware of what the 101 Foundation does. Do you avoid everyone and everything that promotes something you don’t agree with? If so, where is there left to go and what is left to buy? 😃

When promoting the message and vision of Fatima, please stay away from Fr Gruner’s site. There are other Fatima pages, faithful to the Magisterium, that do not plant doubt in one’s head and heart regarding the validity of the Consecration of Russia, the Mass in OF, and the Church in general.

I’ve noticed several members on this thread already that have posted links to fatima-dot-org and I believe that is against forum rules, as the site promotes a spirit of disobedience to the Magisterium. You can read more about why that site is a “danger” on the link below.

The book by Father John De Marchi the Fatima.org website has online to read was published in 1947 and has an Imprimatur. I doubt if there is anything wrong with reading that book. fatima.org/crusader/truestory/pdf/tspg5.pdf De Marchi’s book is thought to be one of the best sources out there. The same book may be at EWTN as well: ewtn.com/library/MARY/TSFATIMA.HTM , maybe it is in the public domain now. Yes, probably better to use EWTN if it is the same book.

Also, in talking about the 101 Foundation books, most of the books are probably available at amazon.com. This topic comes up often, I think one of Hafferty’s books is called “Meet the witnesses”. Often books are available at amazon used but good condition at low prices.

Some things don’t change. When John the Baptist began his ministry he alluded to impending wrath of God. He didn’t seem to care if it threatened people.

Luke 3:7 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
I understand where your coming from and also the Old Testament displaying Gods anger etc.
At the same time,it still doesn’t seem right that Catholics would also be believing the same as people like Westboro Baptist or “doom and gloom” Christian “prophets”.
If Fatima messages are giving the same type messages of Gods impending chastisement, with the same fear tone,it seems something’s odd to me.

For eg:recently in Sydney there was a hostage siege where a couple of innocent people got killed.
I read on a Catholic mans blog that he queried whether perhaps God has used this man/situation to put chastisement on “White Australia” due to their horrible mistreatment of Aboriginal people.
He said the Bible says people reap what they sow.
I strongly agree that Aboriginals have been mistreated however to imply God used this situation to “punish people” seems very alarming/wrong.
Imagine,if I went to Sydney & started telling the mourning/suffererers/bystanders that this was Gods doing:eek::
It would be terrible,no?

Revelation 3:19
As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
Perhaps those who don’t like the idea of divine chastisement can ask for the book of Revelation to be omitted from the Bible.

👍 To anyone comparing those who might read such verses as being the go-to bogeyman, Westboro Baptist.

Or that only Real Catholics must believe in the apparitions, haven’t seen any confirmation of this one either.:tsktsk:

In regards to Fatima.

You bring up good points but at the same time, it’s hard to envision a century that was as turbulent and where we had such evil forces operating as in the 20th century. Nazism and Communism. And now, we certainly have another evil force at work in the world. For the time being, somewhat contained.

It’s interesting, going back to Our Lady of La Sallete, some of these messages are indeed apocalyptic.

marypages.com/LaSaletteEng1.htm

OR in fact, how about Our Lady of Kibeho, approved I believe though it may be “Bishop Approved”. It is not for me to understand the messages that those children received concerning events that would come to pass in Rwanda but on the surface, I do believe Our Lady told the children that very bad things would happen in Rwanda.

ourladyofkibeho.com/?p=17

This above is rather general but perhaps some other messages are more descriptive.
Thanks for the links.I had a read of them and yeah there’s no denying the “prophesy” of them is impressive.

I still have an “odd feeling” about some approved apparitions.
For eg Barnabas Nwoye’s is apparently approved by the local Bishop but he talks about the Antichrist being present here today:confused:

Just wondering, this passage from La Salette, when was it referring to?

“She continues: “all those who persecute the Church of Jesus Christ and all those people who have surrendered themselves to sin, will die and the earth will be like a desert. Then there shall be Peace, the reconciliation between God and man” (thus there will be people alive)…”

Hi,
I’m not suggesting it’s wrong or not biblical,I’m just saying that **I ** personally, don’t understand.

Sorry,i didn’t quite understand the thumbs up comment. Were you suggesting that Catholics should (or do) agree with those Baptist type people mentioned or that they don’t agree?

Oh my goodness. there are many wonderful publishers, Catholic Answers for one, Ignatius Press, EWTN Religious Catalog. Google, and any good Catholic Book store. Yes I do try not to do business with those that are NOT faithful to the Church. God Bless, Memaw

Yes. We don’t do ‘hell’ in my Bible. We stick to ‘heck’ and above. And nobody is really a “loser.” They are just the “last winner.” If anybody went to hell, then by golly it wasn’t because you had no idea how to avoid it because I didn’t “happen to mention” your eternal life is in the hands of things you’ve never heard from me because I don’t like to hear about them!

Sometimes I amuse myself at how I must come across. I’m not really a jerk at heart, just a little ignorance mixed with questionable social skills. Or I’m a prophet or a troll or something. Do not adjust your set. It is not your fault you are seeing this post designed in the manner I’m about to release it from my personal domain confines with the “Submit Reply” button. Whatever that may mean to anybody. :whacky:

“Final remark” deleted in last edit because it was Really Stupid… worse than the rest of this post. I figured this out within the 20 minutes; you’re welcome for this edit. 😉

As I have not read this whole thread, I apologize if these thoughts have already been mentioned. Perhaps it is odd to you because you do not understand the meaning of prophecy. It is not a self-proclaimed prediction of the future but a message from God, given to us and oftentimes contingent upon repentance. It is God’s exhortation to us to remain faithful to Him. Fear is not always a bad thing, in fact the catechism teaches that imperfect contrition can be based upon fear, i.e., “I will repent because I fear the loss of heaven, although I am too weak to repent simply because I love God and know I have offended Him.”

The message of Fatima, although clearly a warning, is also a message of hope that if we remain faithful to God and live our lives in accordance with His will, His protection will be upon us and we will be blessed.

Just had another thought. Although private revelation is not necessary to believe, it is given to us to help increase our faith. “By their fruits you shall know them.”

Many apostolates have come from the happenings at Fatima. What is that fruit? That more are meditating on the life of Christ via faithful recitation of a daily Rosary, that more are faithful to daily Mass attendance and adoration of the Eucharist, that more prayer and practice of virtue is seen through good works and fasting.

How can any of these things possibly be negative?

Memaw, then they should offer a few of John Haffert’s books. He wrote two in the sixties - about the Holy Eucharist and the Scapular - that are worth their weight in gold. 👍

I keep on trying to post and then, decide not to. Those TAN, Thomas A. Nelson books are often very good. I’m not sure if all of them are “accepted” but I’m sure a lot if not most are and even carry Imprimaturs.

Absolutely, there are Vatican recognized Apostolates that deal with Fatima like the World Apostolate of Fatima, the Blue Army. There are Churches named Our Lady of Fatima around the USA and I’ve seen statues, often in a garden area of Churches of Our Lady with the children. So yes, it is an apparition that is worthy of belief but one needs to examine what the Church’s guidance is in full.

Our Lady of Fatima was probably a bit of a big deal because there really was a “red scare” and people were afraid of Communism. Though, the red scare may have manifested itself in ways that might seem to be hysteria and paranoia, nonetheless, Communism was a real danger.

I just wish, modern communications and news-coverage was a little better in 1917.

Excellent point! :tiphat:

:blessyou:

I believe in Fatima, but you have Visions of Hell,Wars and Secrets about the End of the World, plus the Sun itself moving in the sky, I think to some people its a bit too much for them to handle.
Of course it is. If you can’t ‘beat’ it, ignore it, according to some. It’s uncomfortable, it’s shaming, it’s difficult. Hell SHOULD be! The (self!!) destruction of the world should be too much for us to handle…so much that we do everything we can to avoid it happening.
No,your not the only one.

While I believe something spiritual likely did happen and I don’t believe the children were lying and I acknowledge/respect people’s devotion to this, at the same time I have concerns, including:

1.The apparition suggesting God would use Russia to punish people for sin.Does God do this? How does this then seperate Catholics from people such as that you mentioned(Westboro Baptist)?

2.Mother Mary(?) showing impressionable, credulous, easily frightening children a “vision of hell” that included burning people, gruesome animal demons etc…
Even if people say she told the children they themselves wern’t going there,it doesn’t lessen the concern.
Mother Mary-who we uphold as most high model of motherhood & great virtue-terrifying little kids instead of protecting them-doesn’t sit right.

3.The similarity between the “visions of hell” shown at Fatima & non approved apparitions or Claimed NDE experiences “visions of hell”.The whole “terrify people to believe in God” atmosphere I see in Fatima messages too along with non approved ones.

4.Being told to console Jesus for the sins of the world. Are the children or we meant to do that?
If using ‘truth’ to convince others into doing the right thing, for THEMSELVES, isn’t right, I don’t know what is. Don’t we all want truth? I believe God guards us from the truths that are too difficult for us to handle or know, but if this has been revealed as truth, then we are to know it.

As for Mary showing children things that would haunt them for life, beyond their capabilities…I don’t believe it. They were given special Graces from God (through Mary) to handle these things. Let’s not forget…God already knows how this story ends. Mary and God didn’t torture or terrify the children.
Exactly.

I only yell that because for every one of me, there seem to be 100 yelling “YOU SHOULD BELIEVE THIS OR YOU’RE NOT REALLY CATHOLIC ENOUGH.” This thread is a refreshing exception, but I think it’s partly because others and I didn’t give up on holding to the Actual Truth as opposed to somebody’s Wishful Thinking are TRVTH.

That is, I’m only yelling the truth to try to balance out others who promote lies and manipulation and actually risk driving people to error and fear, by refusing to make it clear to anybody that it is optional.

And if it’s true, Techno, why are you concerned about its being repeated? Do you consider it an “inconvenient” truth?
A lot of time seems to be spent (not just by Catholics, or even Christians) judging who is ‘anything’ enough. Races/religions/economic standing/beautiful/skinny/smart…we’re all told daily that we aren’t ‘something’ enough. Why? Because for many people, they can’t feel important (or build themselves up) without standing on others. That is true in every walk of life, sadly. It’s not true of everyone, but it’s true of enough people that even when people are just sharing their own experiences, their love for something may come across as bragging or judging.

What do you think, MS, about researching more on why someone would be resistant so much to Fatima? Sometimes, the more drawn I am to a truth or action on the inside, the harsher the draw away from it on the outside. Thankfully, the inside matters more; I don’t always win that battle though (well, if I let Him, God wins it for me). Just 2 days ago, I felt every reason and feeling to avoid doing things that evening that I knew would be good for me (and perhaps others) spiritually. I even began to feel ‘sick’ in a weird way. That evening at the special Mass I attended, I received such gifts and graces!! I did it, in part, because I just gave it to God. I let Him handle it for me. What a great Father we have!

Perhaps, believe in Fatima for a few weeks. Maybe for Lent. Or if that is too much, just hand it off to Mary, and ask her to take care of your belief. Then drop it. Make an appointment with yourself in 6 weeks (and not sooner) to revisit the issue at hand. Perhaps ask our sweet blessed Mother to show you your belief or disbelief in Fatima, or where your energies should be focused. Don’t dwell on it; just hand it over. Or do the opposite, and read every legit thing that you can. For some, information overload is a good thing.

But keep your heart open no matter what you decide. You don’t have to decide today, tomorrow or any time. It will happen in time, when/if it’s supposed to happen. I have had some amazing personal private revelations in my life, that I know when I shared with others, they didn’t believe me, or doubted me. That’s fine. I know it happened, and it was intended for me (and for others, when I was pushed to share it).

Peace and joy,

So if there is NO CHANCE of error, that makes it infallible and we are required to believe in it. :okpeople:

I didn’t realize it was required to believe in it – at the risk of calling the Church a liar.

So you are once again repeating that by not believing something the Church gives me the option to “not believe,” that I am in fact rejecting infallible doctrine. That’s obviously how that atheist remark came up earlier. 🤷

The end result is that no matter how many ways you slice it, you believe that someone who does not believe in Fatima is rejecting Church teachings. And yet that is not what the Church teaches, unless I’m completely wrong as well as all the other posters in this thread. And that’s where I call Tsk Tsk. :tsktsk:

Or you are wrong and you really are mentally binding me to teachings the Church does not. That could be a possibility, but I can see how unlikely a possibility you consider that to be. :bigyikes:

Why don’t you just let other people worship within the confines of Catholicism the way they choose, and you do it your way, and quit telling me that those of us who makes a choice you don’t like, are effectively atheists? Do I tell you how to pray and not pray? Have I told you that you should disbelieve Fatima? :hey_bud:

Just pray your way and let the rest of us have our method of prayers without your judgment and condescension, if you can possibly muster that??? I really don’t even think you understand the problem yet so I advise you just quit even talking to people who don’t agree with Fatima because for you it is apparently a near occasion for sin. :newidea:

Or just drop it because every time you try to explain yourself, unfortunately you do. 😦

MS
Saying that the Church can’t err doesn’t have to mean infallibility. It could mean this:

When the Church approves private revelations, she declares only that there is nothing in them contrary faith or good morals, and that they may be read without danger or even with profit; no obligation is thereby imposed on the faithful to believe them.

newadvent.org/cathen/13005a.htm

My only purpose in this thread is to rebut any type of danger or stating that Fatima is somehow false. We don’t have to believe in Fatima but because is Church approved we have no right to morally criticize it.
