Why is it better to be Catholic?

Well…then…who should decide what the form of the Church that Jesus established to take?

Are you the one to decide what you want it to be?
ISTM that in general, Catholics are kind of obsessed with the visible Church. I seriously doubt that this is what Jesus had in mind. When I talk with my atheist friends, they point out that, to the extent that Christian churches are visible, they display corruption, abuse, greed, and deep divisions among the various sects. So naturally, the “visible church” is a huge turnoff to these people, and I understand their point.
My question remains unanswered from you, not what atheists think, and it is very simple to answer:

Well…then…who should decide what the form of the Church that Jesus established to take?

Are you the one to decide what you want it to be?

There is an invisible (hidden and spiritual) part of the church that has existed since Jesus founded the church, and that part of the church is active throughout the world, fulfilling the church mandate to spread the gospel and make disciples. So, if you want a church that is largely about image and majesty, the CC was made for you
**!

REally? How about those mega churches with rock bands, light shows, coffee in pews…etc…so you think the CC is worse?

So you think the CC is not spreading the gospel?

Another question you’ve never answered.
I would think that by now you understand that there are questions that I’d love to answer, but I’m not able to speak freely here.
You can say anything if it is within reason and not disparaging. Unless of course, if it has no leg to stand on. 😉

Then you shouldn’t keep repeating things you’re not going to explain or provide evidence to support.

What is “the way”?
“The Way” is one of the names of the early church. It is a common talking point among Catholics that the Catholic Church is the church founded by Jesus, and that while the apostles were alive, no other church had yet come into existence.
Why…do you think this is not true?
I think that one of the effects of the fall of humanity is the inevitability of divisions between us humans. To assert that the Catholic Church existed for centuries without any “competition” from other churches is absurd because it amounts to a denial of the effects of our fallen condition.
Paul in his letters was already warning and condemning division. Obviously division from the One Church Jesus established on Peter and those in full unity with Peter is already happening. And for those who do it, it’s horrible news

Just look at the letter to the Romans.

Rm 16: (Paul is writing to the Church of Rome)
17 I appeal to you, brethren, to take note of those who create dissensions διχοστασίας dichostasia and difficulties, in opposition to the doctrine which you have been taught; avoid them. 18 For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering words they deceive the hearts of the simple-minded. 19 For while your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, I would have you wise as to what is good and guileless as to what is evil; 20 then the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

open the link to see the definition of the word.

We can see that division from the Church, and those who do it
  • oppose apostolic doctrine
  • don’t serve Our Lord but their own selfish appetites
  • Do evil
  • follow Satan
And Paul said to the Church of Rome, “the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet”.

Meaning curtains also for those who divided and didn’t return … right?

Also

Re: “the way”
move up a few passages in Acts, to ch 9:31

“The Church throughout all” ἐκκλησία καθ’ ὅλης τῆς
ἐκκλησία = church,
καθ’ = according to ,
ὅλης = whole / all / complete / universal ,
τῆς = the
= the Kataholos Church = the Catholic Church.

Hi Pup7, I don’t want to be banned from this forum. As you know, I was flagged because I expressed a few opinions that were offensive to at least one person here; not because I “keep repeating things you’re not going to explain or provide evidence to support.” So please don’t attempt to obscure the real reason. It is dishonest.

What do you mean by “disparaging”? If I tell you what I really think about the nature of the Roman Catholic system, whether or not I think it is from the apostles, and whether or not I believe certain Catholic teachings are true, would that be disparaging? Do you think my comments to you should be censored?

You cannot lie, for example. If you have to tell something negative about the Church, you better have proof otherwise it is considered disparaging which is against the Forum’s rule. You can get banned for it.

Did I lie to anyone here?

edit:
And since I already told you about it, you cannot feign ignorance. Go ahead if what you want to say is true. I think posters here have told you to answer questions, perhaps it is a hint not to simply say anything without ground for them.

I don’t know. I am not saying you are. If you have something true to say, you don’t have to be afraid. You are free to say it. That’s all I was saying.

I’ve already been censored for opinions that were offensive to at least one person here. So I know that different opinions–those that are critical of Rome, are not welcome here. I’m certainly NOT free to speak what I believe is the truth. Not here.

Normally if it is the truth, there would be no problem. However, there’s grey line in opinion because it can be purposely used to disparage. You have to be careful in that.

As I said, support your statement with proof, not just hearsay. Anyone can say anything from hearsay. It does nothing to the discussion except to inflame.

This is a pivotal moment for all of us here. Each of us ought to ponder what’s happening. Do you think I’m free to express opinions that can be considered offensive to those who disagree with me? Is censorship of this kind OK with you all? What are your thoughts on this matter?

It is very simple.
If God is good, then God left but one reliable and true path to meet him.

The Catholic Church is the only divinely founded institution on earth.

This is proven by the divine nature of its founder Jesus Christ.

If this is all true, does it follow that Jesus would approve of this (censorship of opinions)?

You were flagged for calling the Church a false religion. Those were your exact words.

You have yet to explain what “man centered” means.

No obscuring on my end.

I’m thinking you can’t explain it without going down roads that got you flagged, so I’ll let it go.

Hi Pup7, I’m so happy to hear from you on this matter. You were very “pro-free speech” while you were involved in a different topic here (political correctness), how do you feel about religious correctness? Are you against political correctness and pro “religious correctness”?

I feel that people don’t go around telling others that a religion they have zero experience with is a false religion. That’s how I feel. I don’t tell Muslims their religion is false, I don’t tell Jews their religion is false. I don’t tell others that those religions are false - especially if I was on a forum dedicated to those religions and someone was asking questions about that religion.

Being anti-PC doesn’t mean I think it’s fine to take a proverbial dump on someone else’s religious principles or that someone gets a pass on being blatantly disrespectful.

That’s how I feel.

I guess you would be totally against Christian missionary efforts in places like Indonesia. I understand your desire to respect the religious beliefs of others, but the church has a mandate from Jesus Himself. We ought to be willing to present the good news (the gospel) to people wherever we can reach them…even at the risk of being perceived as offensive or disrespectful of their religion. There is nothing in this world that is more urgent than presenting the truth to those who desperately need it. As you know, many of the apostles were killed for spreading good news to people who were deeply offended by the truth.
