Agreed…Mary was venerated from the first century
Mary was venerated before Christ was born - most notably by the angel Gabriel, and her cousin Elizabeth. The “Hail Mary” is a Biblical prayer.
Agreed…Mary was venerated from the first century
Praise God
Blessings,
Brian
Apologies - but as a Jew who did come to Christ, I believe this to be scriptural and true and I truly do praise God for it. I didn’t intend my comment to be prideful, but thankful.
We are warned not to become puffed up with pride. :nope:
many thanks! I’ll do that.Brian you should go to EWTN website and type in Bob Fishman to the religious catalog search engine…He has a DVD about Catholicisms Jewish roots…It is so interesting…I have seen a bit of it on EWTN…he talks about all kinds of things…Why we use Holy Water and Why the book of the Gospels is held high in the air as it is processed to the altar…It is very nice , not at all dry or boring
The Bible doesn’t say anything about that. Where would you get your information that Mary was venerated in the first century then?Mary was venerated from the first century
Please pardon - I wasn’t directing that toward you, or anyone else in particular…Apologies - but as a Jew who did come to Christ, I believe this to be scriptural and true and I truly do praise God for it. I didn’t intend my comment to be prideful, but thankful.
Blessings,
Brian
I think St. Luke is first century. And in the Bible. The Bible doesn’t say anything about that. Where would you get your information that Mary was venerated in the first century then?
The Scriptures Say:
The Bread that we break, is it not communion in the Body of Christ? I Corinthians 10:16
Catholics Say:
Do you believe she died?
Scripture doesn’t tell us.
Protestants must disregard Scripture to satisfy their doctrines.
Protestants say;
solo scriptura
The Scriptures say:
“Therefore brethren, stand fast and hold the TRADITIONS which you were taught by word or our epistle” II Thessalonians 2:15
“Now I praise you that you remember me in all things and keep the TRADITIONS just as I delievered them to you.” I Corinthians 11:2
Protestans say:
You shouldn’t make such a fuss about Mary
The Scriptures say:
"Elizabeth was FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT then she spoke out with a loud voice and said “BLESSED ARE YOU among women and blessed is the fruit of YOUR womb. But why is it GRANTED TO ME that the MOTHER of my Lord should come to me?” Luke 1:42-3.
Protestans say:
Just read the Bible.
The Scriptures say:
"But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,’ 2 Peter 1:20
“How can I understand unless someone guides me?” Acts 8:31
“There are some things in them hard to understand, which the unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.” 2 Peter 3:16.
"Prescribe and teach these things. Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. Until I come, give attention to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation and teaching. Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, which was bestowed on you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the presbytery. Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all. Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.
" I Timothy 4:
You haven’t shown me where Mary was venerated in the Scriptures. Nothing in St. Luke. I’m guessing that you may be referring to the angel Gabriel calling her blessed. That makes her amongst several others mentioned in Scripture that were also called blessed. Don’t get me wrong, Mary was the greatest woman who ever lived and foremost of all the saints in Heaven. I have no problem with the Hail Mary and the Rosary. I say it about once a month and am trying to say it more often.I think St. Luke is first century. And in the Bible.
You still haven’t responded:
Actually, as the quotes show, I was referring to the Holy Spirit through St. Elizabeth calling blessed and “mother of My Lord” and indicating that Elizabeth was honored by Mary’s visitation, St. John leaping at her greeting. You haven’t shown me where Mary was venerated in the Scriptures. Nothing in St. Luke. I’m guessing that you may be referring to the angel Gabriel calling her blessed.
all worthy of veneration. That makes her amongst several others mentioned in Scripture that were also called blessed.
Then I don’t think I’m alone inDon’t get me wrong, Mary was the greatest woman who ever lived and foremost of all the saints in Heaven. I have no problem with the Hail Mary and the Rosary. I say it about once a month and am trying to say it more often.
Please stop it. Just…stop it. Your replies are beginning to sound like a spambot. The Bible doesn’t say anything about that. Where would you get your information that Mary was venerated in the first century then?
Then what do you called Elizabeth praising Mary when Mary visited her cousin. She (Elizabeth) said to Mary, “Blessed you are amongst women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”You haven’t shown me where Mary was venerated in the Scriptures. LMAOPlease stop it. Just…stop it. Your replies are beginning to sound like a spambot.
Save at least one side, Manny. You’ll need it to sit at the computer!LMAO
You forgot the “filled with the Holy Spirit” part. Then what do you called Elizabeth praising Mary when Mary visited her cousin. She (Elizabeth) said to Mary, “Blessed you are amongst women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”
We Catholics say that in the rosary! If that isn’t veneration, I don’t know what is.
Well, I know Elizabeth said that when she was filled with the Holy Spirit. You forgot the “filled with the Holy Spirit” part.
Yeah, but with Protestants I like to emphasize the Cause of why she said that.Well, I know Elizabeth said that when she was filled with the Holy Spirit.
