Why won't non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?

I have some news for alot of you.

Non Catholics do say the rosary and I for one have recited the Rosary with many.

My Spouse is a Rosary Maker and it may shock you how many non-Catholics request rosaries and want instruction on how to say the prayers. There are very few ministers with knowledge of the Rosary that will condemn a member of their Church using one.

Go into a large protestant parking lot and see how many Rosaries are their in their vehicles.

The Rosary is one of the best evangelizing tool we Catholics have. For once understood how to recite protestants understand we are reciting scripture.

Also to note that Military Rosaries can not be made fast enough to keep up demand.

Me too…It takes me about four hours to make one Rosary…a lot of work…🙂

I wear them as an outward expression of my Christian, Catholic Faith and to keep Christ in my thoughts.

They are sacramental’s, sacramental’s lead us to the Sacraments, which lead us to Christ. When I put them on in the morning, for example, I usually take a moment to pray.

The Crucifix itself is a Christian sacramental created by the Catholic Church (early Christians) and used for the last two centuries as a reminder of Christ’s Sacrifice on the cross. Before Jesus was hung on a cross, the cross symbolized death and now the Crucifix symbolizes life. Christian symbols have always been used in Christianity and the rejection of Christian symbols is a fairly recent development in some Christian denominations.

Johnny-come-lately here. I heard that phrase in 1st grade from Sister John Leonard. It sticks with me because my family didn’t pray together. But I was in first grade in 1957, so Catholics have been saying it at least that long. There used to be billboards from the Knights of Columbus showing silhouettes of several people sitting around a table praying. I have no doubt Protestants say it too, and I wouldn’t call it a Catholic saying but we sure do use it too.
 
The rosary doesn’t “speak to my condition”…but for those whom find it’s value, I see no reason to not use it if it brings one closer to the Heart of God…if by using the rosary, one’s heart is more gentle and words kinder. If using it inspires mercy and peace instead of anger and strife then I think it would be a good thing…but if by engaging in it’s use causes angry feeling to those who find no value in it…if it causes angry words and “hard” feelings with those who “pray” the rosary, then it’s value, at least in my opinion is diminished.

Any benefit should make us more Christlike…if it accomplishes that end to those that utilize it, it’s wonderful…but if it inspires hurtful retorts and responses…I would think one’s prayer life needs overhauling…and one’s priorities rethought.

Besides the Indulgences attached to the Rosary, Our Lady revealed to St. Dominic and Blessed Alan de la Roche additional benefits for those who devoutly pray the Rosary. Note that the Rosary is the prayer (non-Liturgical) with the most published Magisterial / Papal documents expounding on its excellence. Open up your Bible - there are fantastic stories of adventure in it that hold the interestes of both children and adults. These stories, and the lessons they teach, make the Bible timeless, despite its being written centuries ago.

I sure do DISAGREE asking my 10 year old daughter, 13 yro niece, 11 yro nephew, 9 yro niece and even triplet 4 yr olds…they LOVE the rosary. It reminds us of Jesus and brings us closer together in prayer. We were all raised w/ the rosary as a beautiful time together. So sorry to hear that your experience was anything but.😦
 
There is a drawback in Holy Rosary, and I speak by myself

It is the monotonous reciting all over and over the same prays

It is not easy, because man can easily do that mechanically, just thinking in another thing other than God or Holy Mother of God

But the power, the power, of that Holy Rosary when we pray it in full connecting to God, in full PRAY FOR HELP

It’s infallible, I already was saved that way

I was in panic, I smelled the hell, believe me, I was just frightened, something very evil was in me, very bad thoughts, I was trembling, I was afraid of something I could do, I don’t know

And I just prayed the Holy Rosary twice, more than that, 3 or 4 times…more than twice, to God…to my Holy Mother…and I got peace

That must me prayed with hope, and with faith, thinking always in God

that must not be something mechanical, but I agree, that’s difficult

But this is the most powerful prayer that we Catholics can Get

It’s powerful, just believe in our Bless Mother of God
 
I have said the rosary nightly for quite a while now. I just recently began saying with my children. They are ages 14, 11 and 9. I was pleasantly surprised when my 14 year old told me that she often prays the rosary before bed.

I was always told that if we said the rosary daily that Mary would be with us as we die and would stay with us in purgatory.

I don’t know where I heard that but even if it isn’t true I love the closeness I feel with Jesus when I pray it.
 
Non-Catholics generally pray only to God through Christ. There are several reasons.
Code: 
(1) Jesus never commanded that we pray the rosary, which is mainly prayers directed to Mary.

(2) True, the first part of the Hail Mary is from scripture, but not the second part.

(3) St. Paul, who wrote the bulk of the New Testament apart from the Gospels, never once even mentions Mary. He advised early Christians about many aspects of belief and theology. If Mary was to be venerated, why didn't he at least mentions her name.

(4) The Refomation was in part a reaction against the huge planoply of saints that had grown up, many of them myths, other borrowed (and baptized) from non-Christian traditions, etc. Mariology took Mary, the mother of Christ admired by all Christians, and made her into a demi-goddess with all the adulation tendered a goddess and all the myths surrounding ancient goddesses. The doctrines of the Immaculate Conception (1854) and the Assumption (1950) took the whole matter several steps further.

The reason why you can’t tell the difference is because you have no idea what kind of discipline is involved in reciting prayers that were developed to use memorization and contemplation. This is an ancient discipline used by the Church for centuries that you discard as “vain repetition”, without even understanding that the vain repetition Jesus referred to was the repetition of mantras pagans invoked as a way of ensuring that God magically heard them. That has nothing to do with the intent of the rosary.

Not me, but here’s a website a friend from another forum sent me. She makes them, and they look pretty in these pictures.

The only kind I ever made was with my 3rd grade Communion Class at St. Mary Mother of Jesus CCD in Brooklyn. We used macaroni and macrame cord, and big I cut out of oaktag. Cut them by hand! Today, I have all kind of die cuts and could have made them in minutes without those scissors dents in my fingers. Then it turned out hardly any of them could tie a knot, so I had to make most of them myself anyway. Wouldn’t you think a 3rd grader could tie a know?

Lol…I can relate to “dents” in fingers, especially my thumb…That and my worsening eyesight has really slowed me down…I use to be a Rosary making machine….😃

That’s really beautiful. I especially like the head bead at the joining point. I have a garnet one my dad got at Our Lady of the Snows Shrine in Belleville. His chorus sang the night they turned on the Christmas Lights, and he brought that back for me. I was in the hospital, and it was the first time I missed that particular event. If you’re ever in the St. Louis area in November or December, that’s a short trip worth taking. The lights are wonderful, but there are also all kinds of things going on in the vistor’s center. There are interactive children’s things, a huge display of themed Christmas trees, and a big Lego Bethlehem. There are donkeys and such outside, and kids can ride them. They can dress up like shepherds and get their pictures taken behind a manger in a stable. If you ever get to go to the outdoor Mass, it’s really wonderful, especially in the evening or at dawn.

Yeah we go every year to see the lights. I usually buy several books at the Shrine bookstore.

On rosary-making: I need one made of cord because chain-link rosaries are so easily broken and the wire-wrapped versions are very expensive.
