Why won't non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?

Some protestants do recite the Rosary.

What I REALLY don’t understand is why more protestants don’t use the Stations of the Cross.
The first time I ever heard of them was when I met my Catholic partner. I had been seeing, from a distance, a hill with some statues on it, and I asked him what it was. He said, “Oh, it’s the grotto.” Uhhhhh … okay … A little more pestering and he brought me to see the Stations of the Cross, complete with the little temple to Mary at the top. First time I’d heard of or seen anything like it.

As for the rosary, I started my very first rosary novena six days ago. (Well, I started nine days ago, but I got very sick with a cold and missed a day) However, I’d have to say that I knew nothing about the rosary other than “It’s a weird thing those papist Catholics do.” Since starting it, some inexplicable - and really wonderful - things have been happening.

I know what you mean:)

I know what you mean:)
Really? About the weird things happening? It’s not just my imagination? These are not small things that are happening - they’re the sort of thing that knock you, speechless, on your butt, and they’re all related to my supplication.

When I first started doing the Rosary Novena, I misunderstood the instructions and thought it said to do 15 decades per day for each of the 54 days. So that’s what I committed to. Our parish priest lifted his eyebrows and said, “Well … that’s commendable. I urge you to keep it up, and say one of those many decades for me, please.” That’s when I learned that it’s supposed to be 5 decades a day. Ooops. But the priest said that if I committed to 15 at the beginning, then I need to do 15 all the way through.

So there - one evangelical Protestant who is praying the Holy Rosary. (Although I’m sure my former church members would be horrified and praying for my soul if they knew)

Marie, I know God is flexible and understands. I returned to Catholicism after 40 years away from Christianity. It wasn’t my choice to return. He brought me back.
So I started praying the Rosary on my morning runs. I never thought about the Mysteries nor on what days we were to pray. I never researched it.
One Thursday morning run in the fall of '07 I started praying the Rosary and in the middle of the first decade the word luminous came into my mind and for the remainder of the Rosary Run as I continued praying the word luminous began evolving.
I returned to my faith Easter of '05. Christmas of '04 I had a recurring dream of walking down an unknown city street and it was a brownish dull light and the people had no expressions on their faces. I awakened somewhat distressed but knowing it was a dream and returned to sleep. The dream continued and this never happened before. I awakened again and remained awake for a few minutes thinking this was interesting. I returned to sleep a third time and the dream continued. I awakened a third time and this time when I opened my eyes, on the ceiling above me was a bright luminous light. It did not hurt my eyes. I then heard a voice which was neither male nor female say “I love you.” I started to cry.
Back to my Rosary Run. The luminous light became the loving light of God and this light is the light that we are to resonate with and be a beacon for the world. I was also shown that we are connected with all kinds of different light that fall short of the light of God and that this is the unseen and unknown ways in which we harm one another with sin. Then I was led to quantum physics and how the different colors of light are actually different frequencies of light. White light encompasses all light and is the highest frequency.

I returned home and decided to look up luminous in the dictionary and saw that it means giving light, shining, clear, lucid, without heat. Right across the page from luminous was lucifer which is defined as satan; a match of wood tipped with a combustible substance ignited by friction(lucifer, light bringer).
I called a priest I know and told him this story and he told me that my guardian angel was teaching me a lot that morning. He also told me that Thursday is the day that we are to pray the Luminous Mysteries of the Faith.
God Bless.

Look! I made one too!

Baal of Peor Numbers 25:5

Your light will break forth like the dawn Isaiah 58:8

Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn Isaiah 60:3

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Look! that is in the Bible!
Hello firstmode,

Sorry, wrong answer.

Your analogy here lacks any identifiable subject or context and it doesn’t make any sense. In contrast, the “Mary” bible verses that I provided here, are in context and do show that this prayer (the Hail Mary) is biblically based and they all refer to a single individual, the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.

Nice try…

Not funny…

Please try again, thank you…

Any questions?

I’ll say a prayer to Mary and ask that she pray for you. 👍

Ok, that was stupid, please forgive me.

Thank you for forgiving me, that is why I asked for forgiveness right after I posted it.

Thank you for the prayers, love you Brother!

You are anything but a Christian I’m sorry to say. The person gives you the Word of God and you deny it! Then, you offer a prayer to Mary. For what? Some of you are just too much. I will pray for you tonight and most certainly to Christ, not Mary.

You are confused and filled with notions placed to you by others and not the words of the Prayer.

“Hail (Mary) full of grace, the Lord Is with thee, blessed art thou amongst women”, embodies the words used by the Angel Gabriel in saluting the Blessed Virgin (Luke, i, 28).

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb (Jesus)", is borrowed from the Divinely inspired greeting of St. Elizabeth (Luke, i, 42),

So as these first and second parts of the Hail Mary Prayer are directly from Scripture. Is it wrong to recite Scripture?

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death amen.

(Holy) Is Mary a Saint or would you take the lead and deny respect for the Mother of God?

Do you disagree that Mary is the Mother of God?

and lastly if you believe your minister can pray for you or your congregation

If you believe Mary is with God and is a Saint then can She pray for you? Scripture discusses the Saints offering prayers and rising like incense. Do you ever use incense in your church? What does it represent in scripture?

1 Timothy 2:1–4, Paul strongly encouraged Christians to intercede for many different things, and that passage is by no means unique in his writings. Elsewhere Paul directly asks others to pray for him (Rom. 15:30–32, Eph. 6:18–20, Col. 4:3, 1 Thess. 5:25, 2 Thess. 3:1), and he assured them that he was praying for them as well (2 Thess. 1:11). Most fundamentally, Jesus himself required us to pray for others, and not only for those who asked us to do so (Matt. 5:44).
Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In the book of Revelation, we read: “[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God” (Rev. 8:3-4).

And those in heaven who offer to God our prayers aren’t just angels, but humans as well. John sees that “the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints” (Rev. 5:8). The simple fact is, as this passage shows: The saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.

"Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen

We recite scripture and you find offense?

One thing that always bothered me is that the story of Jesus with Moses and Elijah on the mountain was always brushed off in Sunday School. I can remember asking - if the dead were gone and we couldn’t talk to them, how could Moses and Elijah be there? All I got was “Well, that was a special case.”

So it’s occurring to me that if Moses and Elijah could be there, then perhaps the RC view is the correct one.

I also read recently that the rosary is praying with Mary, not praying to Mary, which I can accept.

MarieCB,

Nice post, thank you.

ICAO4,

I reposted this for you…your thoughts?

BTW, did you know that Mary was in the upper room during Pentecost?

And, I am a Christian, a Catholic Christian, you know, the first Christians, the ones who gave you the bible to personally interpret, so that you can claim that other Christians are not Christian. :banghead:

I wonder if it is a sin to clam that a Christian (Me) … is not a Christian? Does that fall under Christian persecution, if so… then thank you. 😉

Just so yah know, Catholics consider all properly baptized persons as Christian, including Protestant Christians.

Thanks for your prayers.

Peace 👍

ICAO4,

Before you jump in with both feet, please go back and read firstmode’s quote, the one that I was responding to and you tell me what it is suppose to mean. It seemed a little sarcastic to me, am I wrong?

I was taking a break from CAF but people like you always make me want to come back…😃

Oh, no you didn’t…

Kidding…just kidding…. 😃

Peace.

Why do you assume that I am confused or don’t know Catholic beliefs? You don’t know me or have a clue what I know. Did I say anything about the Hail Mary being wrong? My point is in praying to Mary as if expecting her to answer your prayer. It doesn’t work that way, Catholic or not.

You ask, do we incense in our church? We most certainly do. Do we ask the saints to pray with us to God? We most certainly do. The point here is really to pray With not To. I am well aware of your beliefs my friend, don’t sell me short.

How do you know?

Where do you get the idea that I think Catholics aren’t Christian. Did I ever say that? Pentecostals are Christians and I don’t agree with much of their theology. I believe that it is Catholics who have a serious problem with ALL Protestants. This is one reason why many of them cannot distinguish between the many Protestant faiths. The other reason is that they don’t care enough to. Why would you expect respect from the vast majority of the Protestants when you aren’t willing to give it?

Because Mary is not divine. Do you believe that she is?
She is the human example of God’s Perfect Love that awaits us. You may define her anyway you wish. I have nothing but love and thankfullness that God came to us through her. Her soul magnifies the Lord. I have no words to explain the magnificent miracle of salvation and healing that came through her yes to Our Lord.

You are changing your accusation. You claimed before that I said that Catholicism isn’t Christian. Now you are ascerting that I believe much of Catholicism to be unbiblical. You are wildly firing at me from all directions. Sounds like just ranting and raving against what you perceive to be the Protestant machine.

God chose Mary. His Salvation didin’t rest with her, it rested with Christ. Her yes was magnificent absolutely, but Christ’s being made incarnate didn’t depend upon Mary, it depended upon God the Father. Salvation is only in one name, that being Jesus Christ (alone).

You are obviously the one that doesn’t know Catholicism as you say you do. There are many in the hierarchy throught Catholic history that have made statements blatantly pairing Christ with Mary for Salvation.
