Why won't non-Catholic Christians recite the Holy Rosary?

The Rosary is a meditational tool for prayer but I do not agree that there are special graces that come from saying it. God’s grace is just that, nothing more and nothing less. We cannot merit it, it is a free gift from him. This came straight from the readings in Ephesians at church this morning.
We can have merit in God’s sight only because of God’s free plan to associate man with the work of his grace. Merit is to be ascribed in the first place to the grace of God, and secondly to man’s collaboration. Man’s merit is due to God.
Catechism of the Catholic Church [2025]

*Like living stones, let yourselves be built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2, 5

All of us, gazing with unveiled faith on the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as from the Lord who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 8, 13

So whoever is in Christ is a new creation: the old things have passed away; behold new things have come.
2 Corinthians 5, 17

Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of flesh and spirit, making holiness perfect in the fear of God.
2 Corinthians 7, 1

Examine yourselves to see that you are living in faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ is in you? – unless, of course, you fail the test.
2 Corinthians 13, 5

You should put away the old self of your former way of life, corrupted through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self, created in God’s way in righteousness and holiness of truth.
Ephesians 4, 22-24

For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work.
Philippians 2, 13*

The grace of the Holy Spirit can confer true merit on us, by virtue of our adoptive filiation, and in accordance with God’s gratuitous justice. Charity is the principal source of merit in us before God.
CCC [2026]

*Children, let no one deceive you. The person who acts in righteousness is righteous, just as he is righteous; no one who fails to act in righteousness belongs to God, nor anyone who does not love his brother.
1 John 3, 7,10

She was allowed to wear a bright, clean linen garment.
Revelation 19, 8

His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power. Through these, he has bestowed on us the precious and very great promises, so that through them you may come to share in the divine nature, after escaping from the corruption that is in the world because of evil desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, virtue with knowledge, knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with devotion, devotion with mutual affection, mutual affection with love.
2 Peter 1, 4-7

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all the mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but I do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions, and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.
1 Corinthians 12, 2-3*

No one can merit the initial grace which is at the origin of conversion. Moved by the Holy Spirit, we can merit for ourselves and for others all the graces needed to attain eternal life, as well as necessary temporal goods.
CCC [2027]

*But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name. From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace.
John 1, 12,16

Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered; and when he was made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.
Hebrews 5, 8-9

Therefore, we are not discouraged; rather, although our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.
2 Corinthians 4, 16

You have taken off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed, for knowledge, in the image of its creator.
Colossians 3, 10

Grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 3, 18*

Extra Ecclesiam, nulla salus. 😉

Good Fella, Thank you for the wonderful post. I needed that this morning. Ron

And that is exactly what one of the Archbishops of the RCC proclaimed was happening in the church as I so noted. Care to respond to it?
Still waiting for you to provide some substantiation for your assertion. Something from a contemporary paper or magazine perhaps, and not “Converted Catholic Magazine” or some other anti-Catholic rag.

It doesn’t say anything remotely close to getting Mary as a co-redemptrix with Christ. In fact it once again reiterates Christ alone being our redeemer. My question is also who is adding to or deleting from Scripture.
Nor does the Bible use the term Trinity, or any number of terms that describe what the Bible, and Tradition teach and have taught for 2000 years.

How does 1 Cor 3:9 work into the mix when it says,

“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building.”

Does God need us? No not really. Does he use us and our cooperation? yes. If he uses us as fellow workers, with Him, how much more did He use the one person who so fully cooperated with His will that He asked her to be the means by which He made himself incarnate? He did not force Mary to become the Mother of Jesus, to bring forth the Humanity and Divininty in the person of Jesus. She by her fiat cooperated.

Thank you for the clarity I was unable to bring to this discussion, Filioque. I will read and enjoy the discussion but I will not take part. God Bless all of you in this discussion.

I don’t care if you agree or not…The Rosary is the life of Christ through the eyes of Mary, and she promised to assist those at the hr of the death that recite it faithfully…Your entitled to your own opinion but I will trust Our Mother …she never lets us down…The Rosary is filled with graces just as she is…Seeing as you aren’t even Catholic and I doubt if you have ever said it, I hardly think you are an expert on the graces of the Rosary

By the way where does it say in scripture this is not true…? Electricity isn’t in the Bible either, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist or work…I will trust the Rosary and tool we have used for centuries…you can do as you please…just don’t lecture me on my faith
Where does she promise this? Elevating glorified gossip and then demeaning Scripture can only lead to bad things. The Rosary is meditational. It is not some way to elevate Mary to divinity or anything outlandish and unbiblical like that. Sorry.

This is a feeble overplayed argument. The Trinity is proven beyond any doubt using Scripture. The Bible says nothing whatsoever close to Mary being co-redemptrix with Christ. This is really an abject lie that has Biblical opposition. It is wrong to believe blasphemous things like this. Mary isn’t even mentioned once beyond the Book of Acts in the Bible.

You call anything that is in opposition to your opinion anti-Catholic so why bother? You would dismiss Dr. Walter Martin who was a well respected Christian writer because he challenged Catholicism.

Why bother? If you really thing you have a truth to tell us, and we are lving a life in error and contradicting the Bible, you should show us, but with honest history, and quotes, not with spurious quotes, and histories that have been disporved over and over again. As to Dr. Martin he was a little more honest than Boettener and Hislop, but only well respected in your circles. I asked you for something that if it was true would be easy to verify, a newspaper of journal contemporary to the time, which gave an honest account of the bishop, (or as your sources wrongly identify him, Archbishop) and his speeches at the Council.

I’ve read honest and scholarly authors who disagree with Catholic teachings without misrepresenting what the Church teaches, resorting to falsified statements, or misquoting Catholic authors/teachings. I may disagree with their conclusions, but I can at least respect their honesty, and scholarship.

Examples include “A Reformation Reader” by Fortress Press a balanced history of the Catholic Church and Reformed Churches . Jaroslav Pelikan, Lutheran Pastor who converted to Eastern Orthodoxy near the end of his life, not at all pro-Roman, but fair. There are Catholic Historians out of the past that I would not find reliable either, because they too promoted misnomers about Protestantims and Early “Reformers”, sometimes based on false information they accepted as true, other times due to poor scholarship and fact checking.

On the other hand the resources that you have used so far would not fall under that honesty or scholarship. Your not citing where you have obtained these resources so they can be fact checked seems to point to the support this.

Proven beyond doubt? You’re arguing from hindsight bias now that the Catholic Church had defined the Trinity almost four centuries after the New Testament was written. The Bible doesn’t provide a comprehensive theological understanding of the Trinity; hence a few Trinitarian heresies have arisen in Christendom by appealing to the Scriptures alone apart from Apostolic Tradition.

The Scriptures are far from silent concerning Mary’s mediatory role in the divine order of redemption. The problem is that you approach the Scriptures simply in a literal sense and fail to take the Bible as a whole in a spiritual sense. You need everything explicitly spelled out in print: “Mary is our co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocatrix”.

Mary’s last appearance in the NT is at Pentecost when the Church was born. The significance of her presence among the apostles is depicted in a frescoe in the Roman catacomb of St. Priscilla: Our Blessed Mother is situated above St. Peter and St. Paul with her arms outstretched to them both. These two apostles have always represented the Church when presented together. This frescoe depicts Mary as Mother of the Church. The Book of Acts reveals that Mary has been granted a continual maternal spiritual role to play in God’s plan of salvation since the Annunciation. Her participation in the economy of salvation did not end when she pronounced her ‘fiat’. On the contrary, it had just begun.

There is nothing blasphemous about recognizing Mary as a “co-worker” with God in and through our Lord Jesus Christ. God has preordained from all eternity that human mediation have a key part to play in the history of salvation. God set the example by becoming man to save the world from sin and death.

And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted, and you yourself a sword will pierce so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed.”
Luke 2, 35

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake , and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church.

*Colossians 1, 24 *

"Hail, Mary, you are the most precious creature in the whole world; hail, Mary, uncorrupt dove; hail, Mary, inextinguishable lamp; for from you was born the Sun of Justice…through you, every faithful soul* achieves** salvation."*
Cyril of Alexandria (A.D. 431)

“The Virgin received Salvation so that she may give it back to the centuries.”

*Peter Chrysologus (ante A.D. 450) *

“Raised to heaven, she remains for the human race an unconquerable rampart, interceding for us before her Son and God.”
Theoteknos of Livias (ante A.D. 560)

You seem to strive to know everything you can about Mary. I perfer to strive to know everything I can about Jesus Christ. Why settle for a brochure when you can have 1st class plane tickets?
Hello again ICA04,

This thread is one thread out of literally thousands here at CAF. How did you come to the crazy conclusion that I don’t “prefer to strive to know everything I can about Jesus Christ” and that I am solely focused on Mary? Have you ever been to a Roman Catholic Mass? Do you know why Catholics recite the Rosary?

First, you challenged my Christianity (Catholicism) then you make a false claim about me, are these not sins in your denomination?

Should all one billion Catholics abandon their own Catholic faith and follow you, or should we pick one, from the over 36,000 other Protestant denominations? Which one do you suggest?

Is the reason for your comment, that I posted Bible verses here? Aren’t those same verses in your Bible? Perhaps, the Bible isn’t “Christian” enough for you….

How did you learn of Christianity in the first place?

What are your beliefs regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary?

Seems to me that maybe you have a problem with Mary, or with Catholicism in general, am I wrong?

In your opinion, was Mary a good disciple? Do you believe that you are a better Christian example than Mary?

If the Rosary brings people closer to Christ, because they meditate on the life of Christ, then what’s the problem?

I look forward to your response.

Who is Saint John writing about in Revelation 12?

***Revelation (NAB) 12

*1 A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. 2 She was with child…(4) Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when **she **gave birth.5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. 6 The woman herself fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God, that there she might be taken care of for twelve hundred and sixty days.
10 Anyone destined for captivity goes into captivity. Anyone destined to be slain by the sword shall be slain by the sword. Such is the faithful endurance of the holy ones.
17 Then the dragon became angry with **the woman **and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring, those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus. (Revelation
(NAB) 12)

Who is Saint John writing about in Revelation 12?

Israel.

Whenever I see this argument the first thought in my head is…

When did Satan ever rear against Mary and her other offspring (which is interesting because catholics believe she never had another child) and wage war?

Israel gave birth to Christ and Satan sure has waged war against them.

Jesus said ‘behold your son’ to Mary from the Cross - and it sure wasn’t about Himself, rather about John. So she had at least one other ‘child’ - spiritually, not biologically, but a child nonetheless. When it boils down to it, we are all brothers and sisters of Christ, her child, therefore we are all her children, no? And of course Satan never :nope: wages war against US, does he?

I do enjoy praying it as well, and did even before deciding to become Catholic. In answer to the question, and it’s an answer that’s probably been said before in this thread over the past year, I would venture that there are many non-Catholic Christians who don’t (rather than won’t) recite the Rosary because they simply don’t know it.

Some of the prayers of it are certainly familiar. I knew the Lord’s prayer, and the Gloria Patri. We say those every Sunday at worship. But as a Protestant, I never knew much at all specific to the Catholic faith, such as what the Rosary even was.

What verse in the Bible says that God will give you graces when you pray through the Rosary?

Dear DLC,
I am not going to discuss the Rosary and the Bible, that has been discussed already and you can read the previous threads for that. I am not going to defend the Rosary either. I love praying the Rosary and I love the Graces that God gives me.
I am not attempting to convince you one way or another. I love my relationship with God and I hope you get blessings in your relationship with God as well.
God Bless.
Ron
