Why Would A Catholic Vote For A ProChoice Canidate?

Let’s try this analysis. They think they know their faith, but also have imbued in them separation of Church and state. Accordingly, they seem to think that the Church’s stand on moral issues should not enter into our application of the law. Some may think that they are bound to keep them separate because of our system. All the while forgetting that man’s law, does not precede the law of God. I have heard so many who seem to think that what they are doing is so right and correct, when nothing could be further than the truth. It boils down to ignorance of one’s own faith and its teaching and the consequence of going against that teaching.

All the arguments I’ve heard boiled down to rationalization. I’ve never heard anyone claim that murder shouldn’t be illegal. And that’s as Catholic a position as anyone can imagine.

It’s when they start tying themselves in knots to pretend killing the unborn isn’t murder that they go astray.

A second school of thought is, “We can’t change things, so why try?”

But underlying it all is a committment to a particular political line that accepts abortion as the price for other “social programs.”

And to add to this…very few can make a good argument about the other “social programs”, they are just so blinded by their party affiliation, they come up with so many ways of trying to dumb down the fact that abortion is murder of the unborn.

Agreed. Which is why I challenge those in both parties to purge their parties of pro-choice politicians.

I think we would need an uprising of millions for this to happen. I tried to light a candle, but so far it’s just sitting here flickering. 🙂 Peace.
Join the party of your choice. Pay your dues. Attend the meetings. Recruit pro-life people as candidates. Back them. Work for them.

Why are Catholics not voting for the pro-life candidate?
I’m not sure there is one. Even the so called conservative candidate has been known to vote for abortion. As for me, I am going to choose a pro-life candidate even though that one probably won’t be on the ballot. 🤷 Peace.

I suppose there are a number of reasons. For example, some might vote for a pro-abortion candidate because they agree with that candidate’s views on health care or the war in Iraq for example. However, I think that abortion should be a priority in choosing who to vote for. Yes, health care and the war in Iraq are both important things to consider when voting but they are not nearly as important as the right to life. Our Catholic faith informs us that abortion is an intrinsic evil. Therefore, it should be a top priority for people who are going to the polls.

You were going to look this up per an earlier post about the conservative candidate. I did look it up on Naral and they say he has a 0% pro choice voting record.

Just curious what source you used?

I am not telling anyone how to vote. But for me, I follow the five non negotiables for any candidate. Maybe none of the candidates follow all five, but I try to vote for those who would do the least damage. I do admit that for me, abortion is the biggest issue. This is a holocaust of those most defenseless in our society. More have been killed in one year than in our wars since Desert Storm. We have got to be concerned.

I agree. Abortion is the American holocaust. It is incredibly sickening and sad. 😦 I also follow the five non-negotiables when voting. I have yet to find a candidate who follows all five but I try to vote for the one who would do the least damage as you do. I would recommend the same for all people.

Me too. It is just sad that most people did not vote for the candidate that best represented their views in the time of the primary. This election does not give us a clear pro-life choice among the front runners of the two leading parties. Moral conservatives are no longer willing to settle for the lesser of two evils. To do so would be like saying, “Vote for my bad guy!” (I borrowed that from a pro-life candidate who is still in the race.) I do not believe that we should put love of party and love of winning above love of God.

What’s said is that we did not work to get the candidates we want.

How many of us are card-carrying, dues paying members of a political party? How many of us attend the monthly meetings of our respective local committees? How many of us work to recruit and support pro-life candidates?

There is an old saying, “People by and large get the government they deserve.” Maybe we’re getting the candidates we deserve.😦

I do not totally disagree with the notion that one shoud vote for the candidate that would do the least harm. However we are at the point of determining if the candidate who would do the “least harm” has enough good qualities to justify our voting in his favor. Should we settle for a bad candidate who can do the least harm? And if there is another good candidate that satisfies what we are looking for in a candidate, should we not be voting for that candidate?

How do you not settle for the candidate who will do the least harm – other than by settling for the one who will do the most?

It’s very easy to play holier-than-thou and abandon the fight, but we are responsible for the candidates we are offered. And we are responsible for the outcome of the election.

IMO there is not a conservative running this year.
