Why would a Roman Catholic become Orthodox?

Well maybe you need to lighten up on the law and follow the Spirit. šŸ˜ƒ
My friend, the Holy Spirit will lead us to complete fidelity to the truth and that includes condemning and resisting all error. And it will also lead us to protect the Holy Eucharist from the traditionally condemned practice of sharing it with those who are not in the same Church and professing the same Faith. We cannot use ā€œthe Spiritā€ as an excuse to periodically ignore doctrine and engage in precarious practices. Any spirit that leads us to do such things cannot be the Holy Spirit, which is given to lead us into all truth.

God bless,

Adam

Even though some may excessively place the Ponitff on a pedestal they shouldnā€™t the Pontiff remains humble. Its a win-win situation.
For someone to claim that the Pope can never lose his office due to heresy is to excessively place the Pontiff on a pedestal they shouldnā€™t, not to mention be opposed to a well-founded theological opinion of Catholicism.
So there hasnā€™t been a true Pope since the schism because dissenters said so huh? Thats a stretch my friend and why you are in a new non-catholic religion.
I fully expect you to deny that there isnā€™t a Pope. Thatā€™s not the point. However, the quotes I gave you show that your Church has no grounds on which to condemn the Orthodox for refusing to obey the current Roman Catholic Pope and waiting for a true particular successor of St. Peter and the Orthodox Popes of Rome. All that is left to discuss is whether we are right in concluding that the Popes since the Great Schism have indeed fallen to heresy, not whether our position is justified in principle.

God bless,

Adam

When I was seeking I spoke to several Clergy and Nuns from the Roman Church. I studied the Catechumin and all. I read some of Pope John Pauls work and a book written by a Roman Ctholic in the 1930ā€™s on the dissident Chuches. My journey through the Roman Church had become mandatory when the truth of the wasteland the protestants were in became clear.

Before every really coming in contact with the Eastern Churches all of the writings that mentined them, the clergy and nuns in the Roman Church I spoke too all spoke in such an absolute resolve way of the fullness in truth and antiquity in the preservation of the True Church of Christ in the Orthodox Church. If they had any critism it was in love but toward their Church. I had not even thought there was a need to proceed beyond the Roman Church. The basic Catholic Doctrine of faith was clearly more in keeping with scripture than I had ever encountered. Even a Eastern Catholic Priest egged me on to experience and continue to seek the Eastern Orthodox Church.
So it seemed I had basically been ushered right back to the door of the original Church of Our Lord and Savior in all its fullness. Untouched by innovation and developement.
Code:
Maybe for some it is a security thing. I leaned toward more a "if it wasn't broke don't fix it." Going all the way back with a assurity and clarity that some developement has not side tracked the Church. I stand in front of the alter and see straight back to Christ.
Now having said all that, all of the converts from the Roman Church in my parish say the same thing. Even Episcipalians. And Lutherens. They saw their Churches as having gone to far away. It was getting harder to feel at right. Things like that. Even two people who married Orthodox and then converted. They both said they had never felt they were really in the Church until they began coming to the Orthodox service. Additionally, during discussions some of the items that keep us separated would come up as having been big concerns. I have Romanians that attend and they said they are more Orthodox then Eastern Catholic because of the certain doctrines.
I think some people just want the ā€œold homesteadā€ just the way it was. Mind you they are all prayerful for the unity and none have a hostile attitude at all.

At this point I doubt they would recognize the difference.

Well and fine for a canon lawyer.

The Holy Spirit only leads into truth. Jesus promised that the gates of Hell will not prevail against His Church.

If one of us is on a detour it will not prevail of that I am sure.

Only Gods authority is unlimited. Thats the orthodox Catholic understanding. Though you may find dissent where you may, those stumbliing blocks are only accusations to confuse you. Faith, Hope and Love is all you need and will make it all simple. Come to where there is unity, you are invited you know. :rolleye:.
Iā€™m already there.šŸ˜ƒ

Same reason one may become an Anglican I would suppose.
No people who become Orthodox become Orthodox because they want to be part of the Original Church that has NOT had too many changes. They want something Ancient and similar to what the apostoles had. You can not get that in an Aglican church for they do not have much in common with Ancient Practices nor Apostolic Succession.šŸ‘

I agree with you 100%! I took a road trip around the east coast and I went as far as New York to Florida. And I saw converts from ALL walks of life. 1/3 of them I would say were Roman Catholic. They told me the main reason was the watered down liturgy.
What I find amuzing is the fact that on EWTN (The Catholic Channel) the host had one Orthodox Christian who converted to Catholicism, and he said when I ask Orthodox why they wonā€™t convert to Catholocism they give him a weird exuse about the liturgy. He could not understand why. The host was puzzeled in other words. But for us Orthodox the liturgy is VERY important it is a part of who we are.
And not just an expression how to worship or Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I think as time goes by MORE Catholics who are exposed to Orthodoxy will convert and I think this will be one of the MAIN reasons why.

Sorry, I disagree with you on Anglicans not possessing Apostolic Succession.

Break it down for me. For example the Patriarch of Constantinople can go back to St. Andrew.

Please follow a line.

I see where you are going with this and I will pass on your condesending trap. Thanks but no thanks. You know exactly what I meant.

Yes that you can not come up with an apostolic succession for The Anglican Church was created by man.

The Latin Rite has a liturgical tradition thatā€™s just as ancient as yours. When itā€™s fully restored, liturgy will definitely not be a reason for conversion.

How about the ecclesiology that allowed a situation to develop that it HAD to be restored?

Are you unaware of all the Eastern Catholics that were present and affirmed Vatican II?
Yes the Eastern Catholics, one minute they agree with The Orthodox the other minute they agree with The Romans, which one is it. Got to get off the fence.šŸ‘

When will it be restored? It has been 40 years since the changes took place. And all the Catholics that I knew that were there prior to Vatican II and all the changes are not happy campers. It amazes me that The Orthodox who have NO HEAD/POPE and yet they are able to keep their traditions? Why is that?
