Why would God care who we have sex with?

This is very similar to the Church’s teaching on homosexual sex in that ultimately, it’s bad for society.

Prohibition of incest, by the way is very biblical.

Which brings up another question: By your own standards, is homosexual incest perverted? After all, we don’t have those gene pool considerations to worry about.

This is my original answer, which expands well beyond contaminating the gene pool;
My own sense of morality, coupled with the danger that familial sexual relations has on the gene pool, along with the potential for abuse and mental instability…I agree. A perversion and a crime.

Since God made us in His image and likeness, our common sense is very much grounded in the supernatural.

no it was well established before Jesus with the chosen people…Jewish. not every religion has this nor could they ever claim tribute to their (name removed by moderator)ut. Today is way different than yesterday as we have more in connection and therefore share more ideals as well… back then however, the road of communication was limited to speech and not much occurred. Majority of your main stream consists of the fore front. the main religions that developed the golden rule (i.i Christianity, Judaism)

Actually it is a concern as infidelity and adultery cause domestic violence and other problems.

As an argument, this is incredibly reductionist and unconvincing. “Common sense” should have indicated to you that there is more than one way to share sexual pleasure than insert tab A in slot B.

Additionally, your language invokes a metaphor of machinery–the body as mere machine, reducing sex to the movement of pistons in their sockets. Is that your understanding of sex? Are you arguing that sex is merely the utilitarian act by which both the machine is replicated and the genetic code by which the machine functions is pushed through to another generation? This is a highly sterile view of sex and sexuality. I hope you do not, in fact, share it, and that in using your machine metaphor you were merely and unthinkingly giving credence to a silly trope/cliche.

But finally, the ease with which “common sense” arguments are expressed through cliche is irksome as cliche involves a movement from the particular to the general such that the actual nuances of meaning by which meaning is actually made or understood are largely lost in favor of the whitewash of generality. “Common sense” comes off as merely ignorant, shallow, or narrow in the process. Was this you intention–to show up common sense for a fraud?

Common sense dictates that we not violate the more obvious rules of reality.

You do not try to fit a square peg into a round hole. That doesn’t stop some people from trying to do it.

You don’t try to fit a penis into an anus. That doesn’t stop some people from trying to do it.

But common sense should prevail. It comes from God, and was designed by God to be used for our own good.

To say that common sense is a cultural trope is to say that in some cultures it might be valid to fit a square peg into a round hole, or that in some cultures it is eminently reasonable to try to fit a penis into an anus.

I know of no such cultures, though doubtless there are people in some cultures who are glad to make *sses of themselves.

Square pegs can’t fit into round holes (unless it is a very big round hole). Penises can fit into anuses though.
