The Mormon church claims 13 million, but there are really only about 4.5 million who self-identify as LDS. Most of those are in the Western U.S. Many of the supposed āLDSā on the roles are those who were baptized but went inactive soon after and do not currently consider themselves to be LDS. Many of them attend other churches and now consider themselves members of those religions, not LDS. If they did not bother to go through the trouble of getting their names removed from the records of the LDS church, they will be on the LDS roles for 100 years or until the LDS church receives notice of their deaths.just to clarify: there are 13 million Mormons, not 60 million.![]()
