Will America become socialist now that Biden has basically won?

Exactly this is showing partisanship not actual ideology since this is focusing on vote history and policy initiates

If you take a look, I responded to a specific claim about religious attacks.

Would be willing to discuss the other topics in another thread.

That is one of the examples I posted above, it is careful cherry picking and accusations of things not found in the full quote.

What I’m seeing is JB cozying up to Catholics with soothing words while he gives a wink and a nod to activists who he knows openly promote actions that are sinful and they are willing to push their ideologies with lawsuits and propaganda to children.

Well the senate is going to end the fake filibuster rule. So they can pass anything with a 50 +1 vote. Romney will be voting with them and so will Collins
Given how both senators have voted in the recent past, there is little reason to presume that either will join with the Democrats on much of anything, let alone on a regular basis.

Filibuster has been generally not a whole lot more than a delaying tactic; it remains to be seen if it is done away with or not. I believe it was McConnel who suggested to the Democrats that they might not want to get rid of the rule in certain circumstances, and his prediction seems to have been true.

The bottom line, subject to whatever comes out of Georgia, is that it is widely seen that the more progressive end of the Democratic party is not particularly favored within the party let alone by the Republicans.

The Dems were touted as able to gain possibly as many as 15 seats in the House; the result at this point looks like a 22 point swing in the opposite direction, and subject to some races, possibly more. Nancy continues to talk a really strong case of having a mandate; voices within the moderate to conservative members of her party seem to be saying otherwise.

Time for some popcorn… 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿 🍿

We need to be careful with the word “Catholic”. According to CARA, about 23% of Catholics attend Mass on a regual (as in, every Sunday) basis.

Of the other 77%, many people in a poll will self-identify as "Catholic: and that could mean “Yea, 50 years ago I was baptized” and nothing more.

Joe is making his appeal to liberal Catholics, including an untold number who do not practice the faith, thus giving a seriously false-positive to claims.

I get what you’re driving at, but as others upthread have pointed out, JB is still a Catholic even though he rejects some pretty important teachings.

The problem lies in his giving bad example, so those weak in the faith might think “JB is a Catholic and he does such-and-such so it must be okay”.

Then, most of America needs to be educated about critical thinking, the difference between news and commentary, and how to use primary sources to fact check.
Right. Educated about critical thinking. 😉
Perhaps at institutions of higher learning…

Would that be in their safe spaces clutching a soothie so they don’t break down and start weeping uncontrollably when they discover another person actually exists who doesn’t express complete agreement and shared feelings with them on everything?

Just knowing there was a Republican on campus triggered this…

There was an independent report (referenced by the moderator during the Vice Presidential debate) that indicated that Kamala Harris (based on co sponsorship of bills, votes, bills introduced, etc) was the furthest left Senator in the Senate.
How does one measure “leftism”?

If someone can explain how Biden can do this in one term without the senate I would like to know. He certainly won’t get a second term he will be too old.

Compared to the hysterical handwringing that ensued when Obama or Biden won the election?

Predictions of a massive persecution against Christians which hasn’t happened during the Obama presidency and likely won’t happen during the Biden presidency?

As a Republican I am hesitant to caricature those who disagree with us as infantile. It does not do anyone any good.

Socialism is anything economic that you don’t approve of.

From the left – giving tax breaks to big business is socialism
From the right – giving tax breaks to small individuals is socialism
