Will I go to Hell

Yes, you are right. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and His Church cannot be separated. I reject neither Him nor His Church.
But you have rejected His Church in leaving the Catholic Church.
As a matter of fact I strive to be as obedient towards my Master as I possibly can and daily ask for His help in the matter.
If you are then you would still be in the Church. What characterizes people who leave the church is disobedience. Disobedience to the Church that Christ founded on earth to be our mother and our teacher.
Nobody can reject the Lord and still make it into Heaven.
That is true. That is why He will gather everyone back into the fold.
You seem to think that the Church is synonymous with the CC or that it has to be an earthly institution.
Yes. That is just another fact which a careful study of history will show you.The whole problem with protestants is they have a1500 year gap from Pentecost till Luther. What happened between then. Remember too that Martin Luther et, al. CAME FROM THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Why? Because that is the only Church back then.
I firmly disagree with this.
Then you are diagreeing with fact, with truth.
The Church and Jesus Christ cannot be separated, because the body of Christ are all true believers.
If that is the case then I challenge you to trace your church back to the apostles.
You will be very hard pressed indeed to do that.
If the Lord Jesus Christ is my Lord, my Master and my God (which He is) then I am already part of His Church.
Not according to Him. If that is all it took to be a member of His Church, He would not have established one on Peter and the Apostles. All He would have had to do is write the scripture and say all that believe is part of my church.

But guess what. He did not do that. What did He do? He built a Church. And this Church is that gave you the Bible. In fact the very reason why are you are able to have a Bible today.

Read ACTS and you will see that all those who are being saved are being baptized into the same church that Peter and the Apostles were in.
If He were not my Master I would not and could not be part of His Church.
Since you were baptized Catholic then you are technically still part of His Church. So thank the Lord for that wonderful grace of your baptism. Thank Him too for your parents who saw it fit to have you baptized.

Well it should be obvious why I disagree with your notion as I would have to call myself condemned if I did. If I was given perfect Justice by my Master I would be exactly that: condemned. He did however die for me and through His mercy and grace I will not go to hell. He is living in me and He is shaping me.
No it is not obivous. Even with this you have not stated why exactly you left the Church.
I was bought with a prize. I am owned by somebody other than myself.
I do not expect God to ask me what I would like to do to be fulfilled. I do not expect God to fulfill my dreams. I am His slave. If it does not seem to be like this to you, may the Lord help me to become more obedient to Him and to become more like Jesus Christ.
As I have as my ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.
If that is true then that is indeed wonderful He will surely lead you back home to His Church, the Catholic Church. I have just finished reading a book called “Prodigal Daughters”. The story of several Catholic women who have come back home to the Church. Some stories are quite harrowing but in the end it is a triumph of God’s mercy and love.

I pray that one day He lead you back where you truly belong. No matter how far away you stray, there is only one true home here on earth and that is the Catholic Church.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you.
And also with you.

And may Our Blessed Mother keep you and lead you ever closer to her Son.

Dude, the one true church is not a physical/one denominational church. It is not physical in this aspect. Anyone who abides in Christ Jesus and the teachings of the Holy Bible, is the one true church following the rules established by God thru our Lord Jesus Christ.
Show me where it says this in the Bible. Show me where the Bible says you have to follow the Bible. There are many who THINK they abide in christ and he spoke of them when he said:
Matt. 7:21-23

*"Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. *
***Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name?’ ***
***Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘**I never knew you. Depart from me, you evildoers.’ *
Yes, the Catholic church was the first, your point? The first car was made in America, but other countries make cars just as good (they follow the same guidlines). Now if a church goes out of the guidelines set forth by our Holy Father in his devine inspired words (Holy Bible), THEN we can say that this church does not follow the scripture the way it was set forth by God, thru Christ (AKA; Mormons, Jehovah Witness, etc.). Bottom line, if the Catholic Church dropped off the face of the earth tommorrow, the Church that Christ intended would still exsist, as long as people went by the teachings of Christ Jesus in the Holy Bible. The Catholic church is important in the realm of the formation of the Christian faith (no denying this fact), but the Catholic Church, interpreting from scripture that they are the one true church, is not the case, except when you are talking to someone who embraces Catholic Doctrine.
You can talk all day long about all of the denominations being part of "The Church" but the facts of the matter is that Jesus only esyablished ONE Church - just ONE.
You really need to read the fervent prayer of Jesus (John 17) and THEN come back and tell me that the perpetual splintering that is Protestantism is what he wanted.

Walk into a Baptist church and ask the minister who/ what is the one true church? He will answer, any church that serves the will of God as it is written in the Holy Scriptures, with Christ Jesus as its head.
And he would be wrong - according to the Scriptures themselves.
Catholics are special only in the fact that they started a solid foundation that formed the first Christian church (I thank them for that). Salvation exists outside the Catholic Church (They haven’t cornered the market). Any church that teaches the truth of Scripture is “The Body of Christ”, plural, not singular.

Take Care and May God Bless!

Ed
WRONG.
Again, I ask you to read John 17 as well as Matt. 7:21-23.
While you’re at it - tell me why Jesus told the Apostles in Matt. 18:15-18 that the Church had the final Authority.

**Tell me - as a Protestant - where do YOU do for the final word on matters of faith, morals and discipline, as prescribed by Jesus?

Friends in Christ: please do be careful in this thread. In reading some of the responses, folks seeming to be treading closer and closer to a Feeneyist argument and interpretation of extra ecclesiam nulla salus. Please remember that, as the Second Vatican Council stated in Unitatis Redintegratio:The brethren divided from us also use many liturgical actions of the Christian religion. These most certainly can truly engender a life of grace in ways that vary according to the condition of each Church or Community. These liturgical actions must be regarded as capable of giving access to the community of salvation. It follows that the separated Churches and Communities as such, though we believe them to be deficient in some respects, have been by no means deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation.

Further Dominus Iesum reminds us for those who are not formally and visibly members of the Church, salvation in Christ is accessible by virtue of a grace which, while having a mysterious relationship to the Church, does not make them formally part of the Church, but enlightens them in a way which is accommodated to their spiritual and material situation. This grace comes from Christ; it is the result of his sacrifice and is communicated by the Holy Spirit; it has a relationship with the Church, which, according to the plan of the Father, has her origin in the mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit

From this modern Church thought, I take it that one will NOT go to Hell for being outside of the Catholic Church, but one certainly does not have access to all of the wonderful sacraments there, which can only serve to build up our relationship with God.

WRONG.

Col. 2:16-17
Let no one, then, pass judgment on you in matters of food and drink or with regard to a festival or new moon or sabbath
.**These are shadows of things to come; the reality belongs to **Christ. The Mosaic Law was the forshadowing of Jesus - he is the REAL thing. We worship - as did the early Church in the New Testament - on Sunday, the Lord’s Day. PS - Jesus IS the Lord.
The ten commandments forshadow nothing. They are God’s moral law and are forever. The laws you refer to in Col2:11In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
16Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
17Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

This are not talking of the ten commandments, but the laws of types and shadows or the Levitical Sanctuary law. If the decalogue is what Col. 2 is talking about you need to show me how these laws are against us v.14. Sunday isn’t the Lord’s day. Mark2:28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. If the son of man is Lord of the Sabbath as it states here in Mark, wouldn’t that mean that the Sabbath is the Lord’s day and not Sunday.

The Church also teaches that whereas, there is a chance for those outside the Catholic Church to be saved – it doesn’t automatically say that they will be saved. The Church teaches that it would depend on their Invincible Ignorance of the truth.

I was raised pagan, and took a break from paganism to attend an AoG church for about 2 1/2 years during my search for God. The AoG church I went to messed me up way more than I can convey here.
I had been dating a guy before I went to this church that beat on me. After he went to jail he started going to this church and claimed to me he was changed and that I should go. That’s how I got there. I was very involved in this church, teaching Sunday school and Wed night classes, I was there every morning for prayer, and nothing ever seemed like it was enough. A few months after joining this church the pastor informed me during prayer that if I didn’t marry this guy, I would be going to hell. By this point, I was (for lack of a better word) brainwashed. So I married the guy, even though I knew I shouldn’t. He was still beating me, and very abusive. The entire church knew he beat on me too, I’d show up with swollen eyes, cut lips, black eyes, bruises all over and I even told the pastor and others what was going on. You know what I was told? “Wives submit to your husbands as unto the Lord”, this was the general response to him beating me.
On top of that, whenever I had a question about the Bible (even though I was a Sunday school teacher), I was told “you’re a baby in Christ, you need milk, not meat”. We (most there at the church) were made to feel guilty constantly for anything we did that didn’t match up with what the pastor thought needed to be done. For instance, if we didn’t give more than 10% tithe, we were facing hell. If we didn’t believe just as the pastor said, we were facing hell. If we didn’t do as the pastor said, we were facing hell. It was exhausting trying to be perfect in the pastor’s eyes. Oh yes, I should mention, this was a “name it and claim it” word of life, type church. You know, the kind where they believe that you must give lots of money to the church so you can get rich. and if we spoke anything contrary to what the pastor said/believed, not only were we going to hell, but we were told “you can’t speak against God’s anointed”.
It got to a point with me that my ex, who I never felt I was really married to, tried to kill me and was chasing me with a knife to finish me off. I left him with the kids for our safety (I must mention, none of my kids were his, they were from a previous marriage). After fleeing to another state about 1000 miles away, he found me. At that point, I decided that if he was going to find me anyway, I was going back where I knew people, and file a protection order and divorce. During court, the entire church stood with him in court and I had nobody. I tried to still go to the church after the divorce, but I was treated awful as were my kids, we were pretty much shunned and treated like we were evil. At this point, because of how they were treating my kids mainly, we left the church (except for my oldest daughter who continued there until last April-that’s a subject for another thread though).
After I left the church, they even went so far as to kidnap my youngest son and hold him “until I returned to the church”. Needless to say, I called the police and got my son back fairly easy, but the police didn’t do anything to the church, just told them they weren’t allowed to take kids like that and slapped them on the wrist so to speak.
Because of all this “spiritual abuse” I left all churches, returned to paganism and witchcraft for years. It was only because of the Grace of God that I am in RCIA today. I guess God heard my cries even when I was with this abusive church and pity on me, so He drew me to the Catholic church, the church I believe is the True church.
So in reading what the OP said, I can’t understand why someone would want to go “backwards” from where I have been.
And for the person I quoted here, at least I know that the issues with the AoG was shared by others (your husbands parents), it makes me feel ‘not so alone’ in what I’ve been through.
OP, as someone else stated, there are charismatic Catholic services, I suggest you check them out before making your decision. I will pray for you.
Rachel
thank you so much for sharing so much of your story with us… It was a real eye-opener, even though i have never seruosly thought of leaving the Catholic Church anyway… I don’t always remember how awful it can be in other churches… Thaks for the reminder…

and i know how you felt, somewhat, when you were alone and the church took the side of your ex… been there, to one degree or antoher… I think we live in a very misogynistic society that usually takes the man’s side anywya… The ironic thing is that it is probably mostly women who take men’s sides… against women… but i digress somewhat, i suppose…

How did you first become interested in Catholicsm?

that thing about women being submissive to their husbands even when they half kill you… that made my blood boil!! It is usually men who support this kind of thing and women who have never been mistreated… that old saying about Walk a mile in my shoes comes to mind…

anyway, God bless… 🙂

Just goes to show how ignorant of Catholic doctrine you are then. No wonder you left.

Funny that considering that all protestant denominations are man made. Only the Catholic Church has her origin in Jesus Christ.

Yes there is the Catholic Church. When we speak of 100% here let me note that I am speaking of doctrine not practice. The Catholic Church has got it correct because she has Christ’s promises to back that up: Promise 1: The gates of hell will not prevail against her. Promise 2: Send the Holy Spirit to guide her into all truth.

Amen. 👍

Correct He will not. But if you accept Christ then you must also accept His will. And one thing that He clearly WILLED is the Catholic Church. Do you suppose that He would start a church just so every Tom, Dick and Hary can start their own in opposition to His (Christ’s) own church.
[qutoe] Just as an FYI - nowhere in the bible does it say that the Catholic Church is the church. That is a man-made statement.
Sorry by it is true. Expand your reading. Read a little bit more history. The Church at Pentecost is the same Catholic Church. For 1500 years there was only 1 Church.

And yes you are right it is a man made statementl. But the Church is Christ made.🙂

But pray for an open heart and an open mind. And pray to bow to His will not your own.

Hi Friend:

Thank you so much for your response. Please back up your statements with bible references. Catholic doctrine is not Christ’s doctrine. Since you seem to know much more than me, could you please show me where praying to saints and Mary worship is in the bible? I’ve looked and couldn’t find it - in the bible which is God’s word.

I’m open to correction, friend, provide me with answers - from the bible.

Thanks and many blessings to you!

Sunday isn’t the Lord’s day. Mark2:28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. If the son of man is Lord of the Sabbath as it states here in Mark, wouldn’t that mean that the Sabbath is the Lord’s day and not Sunday.
Funny how you omitted the verse right BEFORE Mark 2:28, because in verse 27, Jesus says:
**"The sabbath was made for man, NOT man for the sabbath."

**For the Jews in the Old Testament, the Sabbath was the seventh day on which the Lord rested after the Creation of the Heavens and the Earth. In the New Testament, we find that the Apostles and the early Christians worshipped and broke bread (celebrated the Mass) on the first day of the week, Sunday (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor. 16:2, Rev. 1:10).

**Sunday became our day for observing the Third Commandment because it symbolizes the new creation that was ushered in by Christ’s Resurrection. For Christians it is the first of all days, the first of all feasts, the Lord’s Day.

The Scripture passage often used by non-Catholics is 1 Timothy 2:5, which says, "For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…" Another reference is the prohibition of conjuring up the dead for purposes of gleaning information from them (Deut. 18:10-15). The problem, as always, is the failure to understand the Scriptures in their proper context.
*First of all, Jesus is our only mediator because only his blood is the perfect sacrifice before the Father for our sins. However, we are all called upon to be intercessors (James 5:16, 1 John 5:16). A common charge against praying to the saints for intercession is that they are dead and cannot hear us. This is a denial of 1 Cor. 12:12-27, which tells us that we are all parts of the Body of Christ. In Mark 12:28 and Luke 20:38, Jesus tells his critics that "God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” * In God – ALL are alive. In Hebrews 12:1, St. Paul tells us that “we are surrounded by so a great cloud of witnesses.” The Transfiguration of Jesus is proof that the “dead” are indeed alive (Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:2-8, Luke 9:28-36).
Secondly, we Catholics are not trying to get information from our brothers and sisters in Heaven. We are simply asking for their prayers.
**If we are indeed all parts of the Body of Christ, then asking a saint in Heaven to pray for us is the same as asking a person here on earth to do the same. In fact, the only difference is that those in Heaven have been made perfect and righteous because nothing unclean can enter Heaven (Rev. 21:27). “The fervent prayer of a righteous man is very powerful” (James 5:16). Although, we on earth have not yet been made perfect, we are called upon to intercede for each other.

That is not a very good reason to leave the Church that Jesus established. Church is not a place of entertainment but a place of worship. And yes, you could be putting your soul in danger. Do you know that the Catholic Church is the True Church, the one that Jesus established for you?
I am seriously considering conversion to the Catholic Church, but comments like yours concern me.

Although, I must agree with you whole heartily that the church is not meant to entertain you. It is a place to enlighten you and help you take the right path God has planned for you. In a lot of cases, this can be entertaining, but even in protestant churches this is not always entertaining.

What does concern me about your comments is that you seem to be saying that all non -Catholics will go to hell. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of our interpretation of his word. Of course, there is a line that should never be crossed when it comes to interpretation sexuality and racism. So, for example, practicing homosexual & racist ministers and priests will go to hell.

**I wouldn’t be so quick to canonize all Protestants based on what appears to be ****your **misunderstanding of these documents.

The Church also teaches that whereas, there is a chance for those outside the Catholic Church to be saved – it doesn’t automatically say that they will be saved. The Church teaches that it would depend on their Invincible Ignorance of the truth.
Kindly develop your argument. It is a bad habit to treat flat denial as evidence. I agree with the notion of invisible ignorance, but we seem to be at loggerheads on the interpretation of the Vatican II documents. If I am mistaken…prove it, or at least do the intellectually honest thing and explain my error. It strikes me that you’d just rather argue that engage in any fruitful discussion.

By the way, I am not canonizing protestants, although there are some protestants who should, perhaps, be canonized (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for example) and some non-Christians too (i.e., Gandhi). But that’s beside the point.

But how do you get to the truth? Is infant baptism really the way to go? Is adult baptism? Or not baptism at all?

Do you think that in something as important as the salvation aspect of Christian life, Christ would want us to muddle about in uncertainty not knowing which way to go?

Is God really that careless about His plan that He doesn’t care whether we are on the right track or not so He doesn’t really give us proper instructions?
Look I said on my post that I tell them to do what their religion does. I preach both ways about baptism, infant and adult. Instead of questioning me about this you should be happy that someone is going to these people spreading the word of God. There are no Catholic priests doing it. I wonder why?

Ok, elvisman lets go slow here so we don’t misunderstand one another. Above is your original reply to my post. Because of this statement: The Mosaic Law was the forshadowing of Jesus - he is the REAL thing. We worship - as did the early Church in the New Testament - on Sunday, the Lord’s Day. PS - Jesus IS the Lord I assumed that you thought that the Sabbath commandment was of the Mosaic law and therefore subject to change. Was I wrong in assuming this. I guess your post here to me anyway does not answer the question as to why you seem to think the Sabbath was changed to Sunday.
I didn’t say the 10 Commandments were a forshadowing of Jesus - I said the MOSAIC LAW, including rituals and dietary restrictions.

In Acts 10:10-18, Peter had a vision and was told that the dietary restrictions were henceforth lifted.
Similarly, in Col. 2:16-17, Paul tells us not to let ANYBODY judge us regarding the sabbath.
Guess what? That includes YOU.

In this post you say:**Similarly, in Col. 2:16-17, Paul tells us not to let ANYBODY judge us regarding the sabbath.
Guess what? That includes YOU.**You apparantly think that Paul is talking about the Sabbath of the decalogue. Is this right?

To answer your question Paul didn’t meet on Sunday it is extremely apparent in the book of Acts that Paul was a Sabbath keeper.

Look I said on my post that I tell them to do what their religion does. I preach both ways about baptism, infant and adult. Instead of questioning me about this you should be happy that someone is going to these people spreading the word of God. There are no Catholic priests doing it. I wonder why?
rev,Can you please help with you statment, and tell me what you are saying here is what you said
“”“There are no Catholic priests doing it. I wonder why?”""

From the beginning there was only one Church, the Catholic Church. Even secular historians will tell you that.

You quote rightly there. The Catholic Church is Christ’s Body.

Peter, Paul, the apostles, the early disciples, the early christians. They all belonged to only one Church. - The Catholic Church.

Just one thing to remember, all protestant denominations started 1500 years after pentecost. If they are truly Christ’s Church do you think Christ would start building churches 1500 years later?

Now don’t take this to mean that I am somehow saying that everyone outside of the Church is damned. God’s mercy knows no bounds.
Show me where its says the catholic church in them words. You can’t. I’m sick and tired of hearing “we are the church the Jesus starter.” The protestant denominatins started 1500 later." The one true church is Jesus, not any named church but Jesus Christ. Where do you get Jesus is the Catholic church when it just says Jesus is the Church. Show me in the Bible where it say that Peter started the Catholic church, in them words.

rev,Can you please help with you statment, and tell me what you are saying here is what you said
“”"There are no Catholic priests doing it. I wonder why?
“”"

Ya why where I live at they don’t got outside their church and hold services for people in the nursing homes. I wonder why? Why don’t they do it? Could it be because its not the proper setting like the church is?

Look I said on my post that I tell them to do what their religion does. I preach both ways about baptism, infant and adult. Instead of questioning me about this you should be happy that someone is going to these people spreading the word of God. **There are no Catholic priests doing it. **I wonder why?
huh?!?

there are MANY Catholic priests spreading God’s word. I personally know several. Your post is very judgemental, I’m sorry.

huh?!?

there are MANY Catholic priests spreading God’s word. I personally know several. Your post is very judgemental, I’m sorry.
I’m being judgmental! I do something that the priests DON’T do here and I’m being Judgmental. You have got to be kidding me. And by the way if you read these posts you will see that its judgmental on both sides especialy if your not Catholic. I said I go and preach to people in nursing homes and all I got was a rash of crud about it and got laid into about baptism. And I’m being judgmental. Someone does good for others and they get critized because of their denomination. And I’m being judgmental. Look in your own backyard.
