Dearest Elvisman: You were the person who gave me such a warm welcome in one of my first posts, by telling me to mind my own business, yet you chose to butt into this conversation that I had with someone else who asked me specific questions. May I make a suggestion to you? Be the example you want to see happen in this Forum.

You comments and attitude remind me of the Pharisees. You seem to feed and thrive off negativity rather than having a calm, intelligent exchange of words. So rant as much as you want - it doesn’t make you correct.

Any comment that I see you post on this forum that is unkind or condescending that is specifically addressed to me, I will apply Proverbs 14:7 - Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.
My issue with you from the start was NOT that you “butted in”. Apparently you and Rev Kevin suffer from the same reading comprehension deficiency.

My problem was that you were implying that it was I who started veering of onto another topic. I was merely answering Richard Kastner’s post. You have every right – as do I – to comment on anything you read on this forum.

As for the rest of your post – it is apparent that you have no answer to the Scripture verses I posted to debunk your position. I’d LOVE to have a intelligent conversation with you - I just haven’t seen any evidence of that yet.

Like I said before:

I very much want to quit the catholic church and become an
Assembly of God member. Am i doomed for hell?

I don’t fit in with the CC, there is no enthusiasm there.
Francispie:

I’m curious to know if you’ve received an answer to your question? I know it’s hard to sort out everything stated in this thread. I really care that you have the information you need to move forward with your life.

Blessings friend.

Hi there. I’m sorry if that is insulting to you. I’m telling you what I see in the Catholic churches I’ve been to and have been told to do when I was a Catholic. I’m not making accusations about something I’ve heard through the grapevine, I’m telling you what I’ve done as a Catholic. It’s something that I no longer do.

I’m not name calling - I’m describing what I’ve seen with my own eyes. In looking up the definition of veneration it seems to be different to me.

Do you understand what I’m describing?

So you are saying YOU DID NOT HAVE A ANSWER to the question ?
Actually, I didn’t read your question. As soon as I read “People like you,” I scanned the rest of your message and I decided I wasn’t going to get into a debate with you. I’ve seen your posts and responses and they incite negativity. There is enough of that in the world already. This is a Christian site and I want to try my best (which I’m sure will fall short from time to time) to not insult or berate anyone. If someone has information they’d like to share with me that they think would be helpful, I’m open to reading it and commenting if I can.

So to answer your question here. I just choose not to answer your question at this time until I see that you really want to have a civilized discussion.

Thanks for your comments. My family is from Ireland also. I grew up in a devoutly Catholic family too. It’s interesting that when I ask my family “Why do you pray to statues?” They are actually not insulted by that question. Here where I live, I can ask any Catholic in town, why do you pray to your statues and the response is, “I lost my keys, I want to win the lottery, I need a new car.” Again, they aren’t insulted by the question. They encourage praying to statues and raising hands in worship to it. So, I think this will explain to you why I would say what I said in my previous post about idol worship. Where I come from… it’s just not an insult. However, I see it is indeed to say such a thing to the Catholics on this forum and I won’t use that terminology.

I am curious about something. Have you never seen a person in your church praying to a statue or worshipping it? I’ve heard about one Catholic church in Wisconsin that very specifically didn’t do this and it surprised me. I’m not asking this in a way to trick you or anything like that, I’m genuinely interested in what you have experienced as I have shared my experience in the Catholic church.

It seems to me that within the Catholic community, as with other religions, there are different beliefs.

Thanks again for your (name removed by moderator)ut.

Elvisman: Sorry, the above response should have been directed to someone else. I responded as if you wrote asking me if I had an answer to your question. I’m having a bit of a problem following who is writing what, but I in no way wanted to flame the fire with you.

My apologies.

Bill: My response is essentially the same as originally posted, but I mistakenly addressed it to Elvisman instead of you.

I chose not to answer his post - I didn’t read past “People like you.” It’s just not worth my time and the good people in this forum to respond to a posting like that.

Hopefully, I answered your question.

Thanks for understanding.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s new information to me that not all Catholics pray to statues. My only experience here is encouragement to pray to statues.

Thank you very much!

HI,** I’m sorry but NO Catholics pray to statues**. 🙂 we pray to God, and the statues are a visual reminder. It might look like we’re praying to the statue, but we are not. Just wanted to clarify that.

maybe if you ask Catholics if they pray to statues, they misunderstand and think you mean “why do you pray in front of statues/using statues/etc”. No one actually prays TO statues…they can’t hear us.

God bless

All things are mix up today, I never has a post that was started with “people like You” So please take me off your list also .

Like I said in post 540:
*You really need to hold yourself to the same standard that you demand of others, my confused friend.
*Matt. 7:2 says that you will be judged by the way you judge others.

**Look - I’ve been here for five years and have pretty much seen it all. When a person tells you that they are going to ignore your posts - it’s usually because you have them up against a wall and they have no response.
So, if you want to ignore me, that’s fine - really - but you’ve exposed yourself.

Here’s hoping you’ll see the many errors of Protestantism and come home to the truth.

If you have witnessed Catholic individuals doing something wrong - it’s not because the Church told them to do it.
**I know many Protestants who believe things that are contrary to Christianity, like horoscopes, good luck charms, etc - but I don’t blame their denomination. **

Do you know why?
Because that’s what an ignorant person would do. I KNOW that most Protestant denominations don’t teach these things because I EDUCATE myself before opening my mouth or putting pen to paper.

Maybe you should do the same . . .

When Jesus told the Pharisees that he was Lord even of the Sabbath – he was telling them that he was Lord over ALL. He is not subject to the Sabbath and chose NOT to be resurrected on the Sabbath but on a NEW day, signifying a NEW Covenant. Unfortunately, Sabbatarians like yourself have chosen to reject Jesus’ plan because you don’t understand what he did.
**
Again – Jesus, the New Covenant
FULFILLED
the Law. EVERYTHING was changed because of him. The Sabbath as the 7th day is symbolic. The Sabbath as the
Lord’s Day**** is what we are to uphold.
If Jesus was resurrected on a Tuesday, then it would have changed to Tuesday.
**
Not at all. Just get your facts** straight****.**
You know eman I think that you are not even bothering to read my posts. You just keep coming back with the same old tired rhetoric that has absolutely no basis in scripture and then there is the fact that you seem to think that you can say anything you want to people. You seem to completely abandon Christian decorum. For these and other reasons that I am sure I’ll think of after I post this. I think that I am going to pull out of this discussion.

**Look, Richard - it’s not that I’m re-hashing anything. You just refuse to accept that Sabbatarianism is not a belief of the historic Christian faith. **
In fact - it’s fairly new, in the grand scheme of things. It didn’t rear it’s head until the Protestant "Reformation" with people like John Knox, who was a rabid Sabbatarian, whereas other “Reformers” weren’t.
Which “Reformer” was right?

This is the tragedy of Protestantism: Literally tens of thousands of perpetually splintering, bickering denominations.

**HARDLY the uity that Jesus prayed for in John 17, now is it?

You and Jars_of_Clay can ignore me but it’s only because you have nothing to add to the debate.

Elvisman who in the ---- do you think you are by saying "apparently you and Rev. Kevin suffer from the same reading comprehension deficiency. You are nothing but a loud mouth, smart— who thinks his —don’t stink. Your are the ruddest person I have ever incountered in my life. I’m sick of the way you treat others as well as me. Keep me out of your posts and if you have anything to say to me, address to me. GOT IT!!!

I have been lurking and reading for quite sometime on this forum and actually this is my very first post.

Rev, I am very shocked by your post above. There is no reason to make an attempt to put someone down by using dashes to imply swear words. If that’s what you are reducing yourself to then maybe you need to pull out of this conversation along with a few others that are really only here to insult.

Honestly, there is much to learn from most everyone here and then-----there are others. 🙂

Elvisman: If this thread is indicative of the lame questions, accusations, and misinformation concerning Catholism that has been endured over the last five years that you have been on this forum then I understand perfectly why you use red and blue to prove your points. :

Hey there:

Folks I really wish everyone here would stop name-calling. I am not ignorant friend, we have different belief systems. Let’s have a civilized discussion, ok?
To call a spade a spade is not name calling. I said you are ignorant of the Catholic faith and you are. Your posts proclaim it to all and sundry. Just one example of this is to say we practice “Mary worship”.
Praying to the virgin Mary and other saints for that matter. I have been told by Catholics to pray to Mary for favors (cars, money, material things). This is what I have been told, friend.
Well then those who told you are as painfully ill-informed as you. We address the prayer to Mary so that she can intercede for us to God.
I have found that as soon as I say to a Catholic, guys listen, you’re praying to an idol you say - no we’re not, it’s veneration.
Yes, they are correct. It is veneration. Do you know what veneration means?
Yet I see it all the time, flowers brought to statues, money attached to statues, I’ve even seen food brought the idol of Mary.
That some Catholics have strange practices does not mean it is the doctrinie of the Church. Many Catholics practice contraception, have divorced, and have killed the babies in their wombs but not of these are taught by the church.

So first lesson in good theology: learn the ability to distinguish fact from fiction, teaching from practice. Not all practice is in line with teaching.
I’m not going to argue with you - I’m telling you what I see and what I’ve been told. AND what I have personally been encouraged to do as a former Catholic. I’m not saying YOU personally do this - I’m telling you that I see this done in Catholic churches in my neighborhood and around the world (I’ve done missions to South America).
Yes, there are some bad practices. But that is not doctrine. So again. Learn to separate doctrine from practice. These people are very badly catechized as well. Christianity spread so fast there was not enough time to teach every single Catholic good doctrine. So some have tended to take it to the extreme. Some have even mixed their previous pagan practices with Catholic practice. Again, that is bad practice not doctirne.

Catholic doctrine is always sound and true.
Yes, I do pray with and for other people
If your prayer can help other people, the saints prayer help more. They are already seeing God face to face. They have already been glorified.
I don’t pray to other people and I don’t pray to saints or Mary
.
Your loss.
When we pray together - we pray to the Lord. James 5:16 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. Acts 1:14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers. We are also encouraged to pray in solitary. Do you want bible references for that?
No need for Bible references. I actually like the quotes yor provided.

The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. If you are praying for your friends, then are you claiming that you are righteous? Because of if you say you are well you are being up yourself. If you say not, then your prayer is ineffective so why pray for them at all. 😉

The prayer of a righteous man… Hmmm as I said above, the saints have been made righteous by God. That is why they are saints. That is why they are in heaven. That is why when they pray for us, God grants their prayers. Beacause the prayer of a righteous man is effective. 👍

And who can be more righteous than the Mother of God who is full of grace even when she was on earth? You know what it means to be full of grace? We are all saved by grace. She’s full of it 😃

Also, just think back to the wedding at Cana. Jesus said His time had not yet come. Yet at Mary’s request He performs a miracle BEFORE His time.
