Will not vote for Trump, but no pro-life Democrats?

Regarding the price of oil, you do realize that Democrats want to ban fracking, right? That would cause a huge increase in prices immediately. Most also are calling for a ban on new offshore, and onshore drilling on federal lands, again, this will seriously impact future oil supply, raising prices.

What Christian principles do you not think he embraces? Government welfare and Govt healthcare aren’t Christian principles since they’re based on wealth distribution and forced charity (forcing someone to pay tax in order to give the $$ to someone else)
This is your very American interpretation of Catholicism. Medieval Christendom was full of examples of holy lords and ladies who did just that…used their tax revenue to provide feasts on holy days and other acts of charities for their peasants…

Jesus supported voluntary charity not involuntary charity. Trump supports voluntary charity, where people have more freedom to donate their own money to charity if they choose. If they choose not to, that is their choice, which they will have to live with when they stand before God. Jesus never compelled anyone to do good deeds.
That’s a great response.

Also, the welfare roles have lost over 3,000,000 people since Trump came to office. That has to be a good thing. I’m almost sure that statement is correct.

I am done replying. I am trying to defend my views on too many fronts at this point which is partly my fault for saying so much.

I will vote democrat in the 2020 election because that is where my conscience is leading me.

Everyone should do the same, follow their conscience.
I’m sorry I asked. I should not have, and I’m sorry there are so many attacks. One of the consequences of the Trump era is a decline in civility. We just can’t agree to disagree anymore. It’s sad.

Saw a great video by Stefan Molyneux on youtube asking “Why do people hate Trump?”

He quickly disposed with obvious reasons
Its not because he’s rich - other people (Gates, Bezos, etc) far richer and people don’t have them
Its not because his behavior w/ women - other men (Bill Clinton, etc) far worse and Libs don’t hate them
Its not because he’s racist - other people (e.g. Jimmy Kimmel wearing blackface, VA Gov wearing KKK hood, etc) done things actually racist yet Libs don’t hate them

So why do LIbs hate Trump? His answer had to do with the “pareto principle”. It is the principle that says the square root of the # of workers does half the work. So with 100 workers, 10 workers will do half the work. They are 10 most efficient. This principle is universal and beyond humans - the square root of the number of trees has half the height of all trees, etc. Its a universal principle of inequality. Now in the middle ages, equality was built into the system. You grew up on a farm and everyone was pushing a plow. Even if the guy beside you had genius IQ or was Alpha Competitor, he couldn’t stand out because…everyone was on a farm, so the free market didn’t exist to let him stand out.

But then enter the free market and Trump. He excels at what he does. He becomes rich through free market. Now Romeny was also rich but Libs didn’t hate Romeny as much. Why? Because Romeny was ashamed of his wealth, like Gates, Bezos, etc. Meanwhile Trump is UNAPOLOGETIC about it: he says “I’m like really rich!!” He brags about his success. He doesn’t give a F what people think. Now that is American dream. But to liberals, that is the Cardinal sin that is right up there with Satanic Treachery. You CANNOT succeed and if you dare do, you CANNOT brag about it. So they attack Trump. They demean him. They mock him. But then they screw up, why? Because as Norm MacDonald said “Often, Trump is doing a self-parody, he mocks himself constantly. ANd there is nothing dumber than parodying a self-parody”

I haven’t seen any lack of civility on this thread. Disagreement, sure, but nothing disrespectful.

I wasn’t trying to be snarky to
@lonegreywolf20, and I understand that some people might be financially burdened by the increasing gas prices, but really, Trump’s sanctions aren’t there just because Trump woke up in the morning and decided that a sanction on Iran was just what his day needed to be perfect.

it wasn’t “their” tax revenue, it was the peoples revenue, hence they weren’t performing any "act of charity"

Would be like me stealing your wallet and then saying I did an “act of charity” when I bought a homeless guy a meal with money out of your wallet

One should not let cynicism interfere with one’s moral courage. Throwing one’s vote away on a candidate one knows has no chance but about which one feels morally superior to vote for, is just an act of pride; nothing more.

NARAL rates virtually all Dems as pro-abortion. National Right to Life rates nearly all Repubs as having a good prolife voting record. I’m not a Repub. Never have been. But I’m not going to vote for abortion or even stand aside while others do. If I cancel out some pro-abortion vote with my vote, it’s worth doing.

Fair enough, but it annoys me when conservative Americans pretend the Magisterium fully endorses the Republican Party. If Catholic social doctrine is so right wing, where are all the Magisterial condemnations of the social democracies that dominate Europe? They don’t exist.

American Solidarity Party most closely aligns to catholic beliefs, you might check them out.

I wish they had democrats who were pro life. Right now I’d even take democrats who were against partial birth abortion. It’s not enough, but it’s better than being for it. What happened to my democratic party? 😦

As a card carrying member of the “deplorables”, “irredeemables” and “bitter clingers” I really can’t blame Trump for the current incivility.

That’s what I asked myself back when I was a Dem activist and officeholder in the party. Realizing as I did then that one cannot simultaneously be faithful to the Catholic Church and the Dem Party, I left it. I have not become a Repub. I’m just me.

Wouldn’t you say it’s more cynical to feel as if you have to vote for the lesser of two evils? I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 because of his personal characteristics that I found lacking, and I also did not believe he would govern in a pro-life, and conservative manner. I didn’t vote for Clinton because I disagree with most of the Democratic agenda, and she’s probably even more morally repugnant than Trump. I imagine I’ll pull the lever for Trump in 2020 because he’s done well on the economy, supreme court, foreign affairs, and religious liberty. So, warts and all he’ll likely get my vote, because he’s earned it.

Back when I was a Dem activist, we called a third party vote “half a vote” for the Repubs. The American Solidarity Party, then, is “half a vote” for the abortion party.

But you were wrong, weren’t you? He appointed Kavanaugh and Gorsuch and many other prolife judges. If Ginsburg dies or resigns, he has Amy Barrett in the wings. He reinstated the Mexico City Policy and let the Little Sisters of the Poor off the HHS Mandate that required them to provide abortifacients to their workers.

What more that was in his power did you want him to do? Regardless, your plan is the correct one.

I was wrong about how he’d govern. But, in 2016, given his past record I did not imagine he would do the things he’s done. I saw him more as a NYC liberal who was using the Republican party to advance his own personal agenda. I’m glad I was wrong.

and we will continue to be a two party system in the US until more people get on board and start voting for third party candidates!
