Will you buy "The Passion" when released to video?

I will probably buy multiple copies. I wil put one in the lending library at church and a copy to lend out to family and friends who couldn’t be bothered to go see it.

I don’t know if I will buy it but I will rent it, I didn’t see it at the theatre as I wanted to watch it in my own home so I could just sit on my favorite chair and just take my time and really pay close attention and of course pause and rewind if I miss anything, I may buy it, I won’t know until I see it, I think from what friends have said I will only want and need to see it one time, I cried just watching the previews on t.v. for it and listening to others tell me about it also caused me to lose it so I don’t know if I want to watch it over and over, I don’t want my children to see it until they are at least 15.

I do what I can to make sure Mel and the people associated with the movie get some money off of this. Money talks and if they make money off of this they will hopefully produce more positive movies.
Not too much doubt about that. The movie has already made over $600 million worldwide and estimates are that it will cross the $1 Billion mark by year end. Rather astounding for a subtitled movie about Jesus, no?

Although I hope Hollywood will learn something from that, I also hope for world peace and a cure for cancer (about as equally likely).

Does anyone know when this will be released for sale as DVD?

Tom
It’s being released August 31. They have been taking pre-orders since June 1. I have pre-ordered a DVD, and have recommended that my daughters also purchase either the VHS or the DVD version. It will also available in Spanish on that same date.

It was immediately after seeing The Passion of the Christ that I had the most moving, unbelievable, life changing experience. It brought me back to the Church after 25 years! …
Consuela, if you feel comfortable I would love to hear of your experience. I know it is a very personal thing, so I understand if you can’t.

God Bless.

I’m not sure about that. I keep hearing that a cure for cancer isn’t that far in the future. 😃

But I agree with Hollywood learning something from this being as likely as world pease.

**I can’t wait! **

I imagine that it will set some type of record on this release too.

👍

I will be buying a DVD. My wife and son declined to see it on the big screen, but look forward to viewing on the small screen.

Is anyone else hoping there will be a subtitleless feature?

I will be buying it and plan on watching it every Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, at least. It’s like the stations on film. Although there was one part I wish he wouldn’t have put in- that part where the demon kids chase Judas. It’s a little Holloweenish for me. I know Judas had to have been taunted by demons, otherwise he wouldn’t have committed suicide but I don’t like the demon kids.

I understand the Sam’s Club will be selling this DVD in bulk for church groups. It will work out to cost $18. per copy. If any parish in Illinois has it for sale, please post where.

Somewhere I heard that you will be able to turn off the subtitling on the DVD if you choose, but I don’t think that came from an authoritative source so it may be inaccurate. It would be a nice feature to have. After the third or fourth time you really don’t need the subtitles anymore even if you don’t speak the languages. Turning them off would allow the imagery to stand alone and for me would make the movie far more meditative.

And I would imagine that some students of the languages find the subtitles distracting.

Anything is better than having everyone talk with British accents, which seems to be the traditional way of rendering a conservative movie about Christ.

I also plan to buy the DVD as soon as it is available. But I think it will be hard to match the big screen impact on my home TV. Hey, that’s a great reason to beg the wife for that 56" HDTV widescreen with the surround sound! 😉

The TV as a sacramental! Now there’s an irony for you… 👍

Well… I answered the poll, actually I believe I was the first No vote.

I now see a total of 3 no votes but do not see any posts by them…

I wonder if they fear to reply.

I saw the movie and thought it was well done but as an Eastern Catholic I do not really see a place for this in my spirituality which is based more on the Resurrection of Christ than it is on the suffering and Crucifixion.

Yep - I’ve got it on order already.

Saw it twice in the theater. The first time I couldn’t stop crying. The second time I went in with my rosary and said the sorrowful mysteries while watching…really helped me pray harder.

Score!

I am always interested in Christians of any denomination who see no benefit in meditating on the Passion of Jesus. Without the cross, there is no glory; without the cross, there is no crown.

It wasn’t just the fact that Jesus died and rose, it was HOW he died – the total pouring out of His Entire Self, to His very last drop of Precious Blood, that is the essence of our faith and how we are to imitate Him!

It is His Suffering that makes the Glory of His Ressurection so much sweeter. I don’t see how they can be separated.

And with out the Resurrection there would be no reason for the Passion.

I am always interested in Christians who wish to force their spirituality on everyone else or who make the claim that their spirituality is superior to others.

No where did I say that there was no benefit in meditating on the Passion… I just chose to do so with the Gosples instead of with a movie.

I think “The Passion” is the most moving, important and best movie I have even seen. I am hoping that it is going to be re-released at movie theaters-not on home video. It’s far more than our little TV screen can project. I would only buy it as a video if it was never going to be on the “big” screen again.

Actually, I was the first no vote. And for a long time, the only no vote. I’m not afraid to say why, I just never bothered.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing somebody else’s artistic rendering of the Passion of our Lord. I’m afraid (not in an ‘i’m scared’ sense) that it would overwhelm my own ponderings. I much prefer reading to watching movies when it comes to pondering things about God.

I might normally say me to, but having seen the movie I will buy the DVD.
