That is your view on the wall, you don’t want it to be based on voluntary contributions.
Actually I’d be glad to contribute to it. But since the federal government picks my pocket for all sorts of awful things the least they could do is build a wall to protect this country.

I’m not sure what your point is since most people are for all sorts of government spending on everything under the sun.

Just that you are not in favor of personal responsibility, but in favor of the welfare state.

I’m not sure how you’d conclude that since it isn’t true at all and nothing I’ve ever said would indicate it was.

Right. That is the fatal flaw of democracy. You get to make other people pay for what you want.
Paying for an entire wall so that one single person doesn’t creep into the USA is NOT worth the money.

If you honestly do not understand this than you have failed your professors on a phenomenal level, and in turn, yourself.
From Jan 2014 to June 2015 I worked for an Refund Clearing House. If you used anybody other than Turbo Tax ( that has changed now ) or H&R Block, the probability your IRS refund got funneled thru the Tax branch of the bank I worked for is fairly high. Anyways, I was viewing some of the data so the huge sums ( 8k or better ) threw a red flag for me . So I ran a query to qualitate the data I was seeing. 80% of the refunds were 10K or better. So I asked the question, why are not these people being audited. The quick answer is the economy. The IRS knows that 95%of that money will be put right back into the economy. So they don’t touch it.

The same applies to illegals. They put nearly all of what they make back into the economy.
And most of that money comes from jobs that most americans do not want to do anymore in the first place. A lot of is what the slaves of old were forced to do.

Anyone who demands things that other people have to pay for believes in the welfare state. It is easy to be generous with other people’s money.

So everyone who believes in government believes in a welfare state? That obviously isn’t true since it means every state is a welfare state. It robs the word welfare of adding to the meaning of state.

I don’t know about that. Many send money back home.

Also they don’t generate enough income to pay for themselves. As I pointed out just one illegal child costs taxpayers $10,000 a year in just schooling costs. So they are a net drain on the economy.

As to jobs Americans won’t do I thought the reason we had a welfare state was because some people couldn’t find work? I didn’t know the reason was because they just don’t want to work. Take away their benefits, make them hungry and the Americans will get to work.

You are right about the slave aspect. That is employers want cheap labor. So they work illegals or immigrants in general. They don’t have to pay them as much and can work them harder. I guess we shouldn’t be so critical of slavery since so many actually tacitly approve of the same basic motivations in our time. In fact people are considered noble if they welcome even more modern slave labor to our country.

We need a wall if only to stop a single illegal.
Well I wouldn’t build a wall to stop a single illegal, but I would support building one so future administrations can’t just turn a blind eye to illegal crossings. That we have over 10 million illegals here now shows just how indifferently this problem has been addressed in the past.

While there are no doubt many jobs that fall in this category, the idea that most jobs would be undone without illegals is wildly untrue. The building trades have pretty much been taken over by immigrants, which anyone who has had work done on his house can tell you. I’m not saying they aren’t very good workers, only that those are good jobs that used to be done by Americans. It isn’t that Americans won’t do those jobs; it is that they won’t do them at the wages that are offered to illegals.

Never claimed that. But since unemployment is at all time low…who knows what the ultimate outcome will be.

The dark side of Capitalism and Economics.

The dark side of Capitalism and Economics.
Why is it that on the one hand we condemn businesses for sending jobs overseas, yet on the other hand are indifferent when foreigners come here to take the jobs that can’t be outsourced? It’s the same result: Americans losing jobs, and the fact that unemployment is at an all time low hides the fact that that number doesn’t include those who are unemployed and aren’t looking for work. The percentage of Americans in the workforce is also near its all time low.

And what is the problem with that?
Ask someone who works - or used to work - in those trades how he’s been affected by the glut of workers in those areas. I don’t know what you do for a living, but you might have a different perspective if your wages had been reduced by a third or a half because of illegal competition.

Pretty lame article, lying with statistics to push an agenda.

It’s highly misleading to report the stats as ‘apprehensions per agent
This provides zero perspective on the total number of apprehensions or crossings over time

Stephen,
it’s OK to push one side of the argument, I respect that,
but please show some integrity in your argument, and your sources.

Are these all illegal immigrants?

We have between11 and 20 million illegals in this country. We’ve allowed in another million legal immigrants each year for the last 20 years. Not everybody is out picking strawberries. Why do you think every sign in Lowes and Home Depot is now bi-lingual?

In other words you have no clue whether they are legal or illegal.

Then there are those who get seasonal visas to do landscaping work, tree-cutting, etc. They do good work but most don’t come back. An American generally wants a full-time job 12 months out of the year with full benefits.

Mexico loves border control:

They just don’t want the United States of America to control the border between the USA and Mexico.

Besides illegal immigrants entering the USA, there is a huge traffic in dollars and guns entering Mexico AND a vast flow of drugs including fentanyl and methamphétamine [killing more than 100 Americans per day] entering the USA.

A wall would create a permanent barrier … certainly better than that bogus electronic “virtual wall”.

Not a perfect barrier … but right now only unlucky border crossers get caught.

We already have ample evidence of illegals who have been deported multiple times.

AND we have ample evidence of people other than Mexicans who enter the USA INCLUDING PEOPLE FROM THE MIDDLE EAST.

All they have to do is fill out the paperwork and get in line … but now we have illegals with violent criminal records and contagious diseases freely entering.

A wall would be better than “catch and release”, which is currently THE LAW.

We already know that most border patrol personnel are involved in paperwork and administration … which is where National Guard personnel are helping out.
