It shouldn’t. SCOTUS isn’t going to do anything to reverse Roe v. Wade, and even if it did, abortion would simply revert back to the states
With the right case and the right arguments, Roe v Wade could be overturned.
Sure. It won’t be. Judges like Kavanaugh will ensure that.
And if the issue were reverted to the states, then we could work on a state-by-state basis to get it outlawed altogether. Or the federal government could do something.

Either way, we would be in a better position than we are now with Roe v Wade still the last ruling.
You mean Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, which was upheld by a conservative majority on the court?
And in the meantime, administrations that violate most planks of Catholic social teaching will be enabled.
I consider all the issues as being "Equally Sacred ". All issues are weighed
I do not see Republicans aiming to dismantle the welfare policies we have in place, nor committing many of the other evils people accuse them of.
The GOP platform violates core pieces of the Church’s social teachings, including acceptance of and furthering of the death penalty (Life and Dignity of the Human Person), policies that violate the Option for the Poor and Vulnerable by diminishing assistance to those most in need, reversal of environment protections, which constitutes violation of the directive to Care for God’s Creation, and rejection of the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers through a targeted assault on workers’ unions. For starters.

In today’s political climate, the candidates who would make the best President either cannot make it past the primaries, or, what is more likely, they do not want to run. There are many people I would rather see running on both the Republican and the Democratic tickets. But I will never see them on the ballot for the reasons mentioned.
On that we totally agree.

I hope soon to be able to vote 3rd party, and am sad that it is the Supreme Court that determines my vote
That’s the reason I haven’t voted on Election Day since 2000 when I voted for Pat Buchanan.

Btw, he got an enormous number of votes in that Miami county.

I do not understand this comment.
You mean Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, which was upheld by a conservative majority on the court?
Are you sure you are talking about the right case? This was not upheld by a conservative majority…

Anyway, note I said constructivist and activist, not conservative and liberal.
The GOP platform violates core pieces of the Church’s social teachings…
As does the D platform violate a core teaching of the Church since the beginning.

Just like Ds always say, not everyone in the US is Catholic…

Moreover, if the federal government cuts funding to the poor (which is usually a matter of reducing an increase rather than actually cutting the amount), there is a lot people can do. They can give money to the poor. They can petition local and state governments to make up the difference.

With Roe v Wade in place, there is little that can be done about abortion.

That does not mean they are central to people’s reason to vote against him.
I hear so much more about his nastiness than I do about his economic policies which so helped this nation, his Middle East policies which just had an historic signing of an agreement between the UAE and Israel, etc. Hs
If by “holding your nose” you mean believing there are other candidates you would rather see running, then I admit it. In today’s political climate, the candidates who would make the best President either cannot make it past the primaries, or, what is more likely, they do not want to run. There are many people I would rather see running on both the Republican and the Democratic tickets. But I will never see them on the ballot for the reasons mentioned.
Well, I have to admit that if the Rs were better pols, Trump would not have gone anywhere.

"During the 1988 presidential election, Horton became a central figure in Bush’s campaign and a way for the candidate to imply that his opponent, Massachusetts governor Michael Dukakis, was soft on crime. His case stoked a debate on whether criminals should be allowed temporary furloughs from prison. When a political action committee used Horton’s mug shot in an attack ad, he became part of an infamous election-season strategy to stoke fear and racial anxiety among white voters…

“More than likely,” writes historian Tali Mendelberg in The Race Card: Campaign Strategy, Implicit Messages, and the Norm of Equality , “the Bush campaign used the racial facts of the case intentionally—though subtly—as part of the overall strategy to recruit white voters without drawing the ‘racist’ label.”

Atwater, a Southerner, knew that masked appeals to race won elections. He recast William as “Willie,” she writes. “Atwater was a white man raised in the Deep South…who was accustomed to referring to black men with overstated familiarity.”

“The fact is, my name is not ‘Willie,’ Horton later told the Nation . 'It’s part of the myth of the case. The name irks me. It was created to play on racial stereotypes: big, ugly, dumb, violent, black — ‘Willie’. I resent that. They created a fictional character — who seemed believable, but who did not exist.”

"The Trump campaign posted four tweets on Tuesday containing the mugshots of released Minnesotan defendants and their alleged criminal charges in an attempt to hurt presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign.

The tweets mirrored a 1988 racially stoked advertisement in support of President George H.W. Bush. The tweets were posted just hours before Biden announced Sen. Kamala Harris as his running mate."

he GOP platform violates core pieces of the Church’s social teachings,
I doesn’t at all. Surely you know it doesn’t have a “platform” and isn’t going to have one.

But more specifically, what Republican legislation violated the Option for the Poor and in precisely what way?

What environmental protections have been reversed?

What rights of workers have been assaulted…not just union Democrat donors, workers themselves.

Trump can’t help who the Minnesota Freedom Fund got released from jail. Perhaps you can find some photos of some white felons bailed out by Biden’s staff to go with the photo of the black felon.

You still haven’t provided the source for this assertion.
You asked me why the Willie Horton campaign was racist and I stated facts for you. Once again, you snipe around the periphery. Show me where any of the facts I stated were wrong. Those were not claims or opinions but facts.

"As Lee Atwater neared death, he surveyed his life and apologized for some ‘‘less than virtuous acts.’’ …

The apologies – for saying, of Michael Dukakis, that he wanted to ‘‘strip the bark off the little bastard’’ and ‘‘make Willie Horton his running mate’’ – were expressed early on in weeks of interviewing, but I was not surprised to hear them.

""In a detailed and candid article about his career and his fight against an inoperable brain tumor, Lee Atwater has apologized to Michael S. Dukakis for the “naked cruelty” of a remark he made about the Democratic Presidential nominee in the 1988 campaign…

In 1988," Mr. Atwater said, “fighting Dukakis, I said that I 'would strip the bark off the little . . . jerk . . . ’ and ‘make Willie Horton his running mate.’ I am sorry for both statements: the first for its naked cruelty, the second because it makes me sound racist, which I am not.”

Read between the lines.

Trump can’t help who the Minnesota Freedom Fund got released from jail.
The Trump campaign can surely help themselves from making political hay out of situations in which they play up a racial angle and contribute to the racial divide in this country, or do you think that they cannot control themselves from acting in this manner?

Can’t because of paywalls.
I could tell you how to get around paywalls, but it is wrong to do so.

It is time for anyone who has doubts to research " “Willie Horton’ +racism”. Copy and paste in the internet search engine of your choice.

I’m sure that will bring up lots of liberal articles, just like “republican and racism” would. “Catholic” and “racism” would bring up quite a few.

Calling someone “racist” is the Democrats’ substitution for substance.

Wrong! Many of the articles are comments by Republicans trying to say the ads were not racist. Be of a discerning mind. The historical takes will give you all the background one needs as to the controversy.

Yes, that’s neat – no platform, just pledges of allegiance to Trump. I was speaking of the party’s traditional platform.
