Women's jumpers: YEAH or NAY

I saw in a past posting that someone said a man shouldn’t be attracted to the physical or something like that. This is so stupid. Of course they should but why is it either or. My husband is a loyal Catholic who wants me to be modest. That doesn’t mean he is a bad man because he wants me to dress stylish and try to look pretty for him. That is part of my job as a Catholic wife. God made men to be more aware of looks. That is different than lust.
When traditional Catholics tell women that they must wear long skirts, it is sinful to wear pants and have to wear long sleeves we sound like the protestants I left behind when I converted 12 years ago. Could it be that this a reaction to the imodesty that is the norm in this society? As to the pants I would remind people that my Scottish forefathers wore kilts.
While some people don’t care what they wear others do. The dowdy ones aren’t any more spiritual than the ones who do. Some trads look like they are from a fundamentalist mormon sect. YIKES!
From a pregnant stylish and very happily married wife!

Men are by nature very visual and I think a wife needs to provide some some nice visuals for her dh. I don’t think jumpers help much for that.
Most women look better when modestly dressed.

Men have got ‘visuals’ every which way they turn these days. When the hot weather hits, half the female population in our town runs around in what used to be considered their underwear.

And when it’s cold, the women still have less clothes on cable tv than they do in summer time.

I say all wives on this board have my official permission to give visuals a rest. Don’t worry about it, because there’s always going to be someone better looking anyway. In the end, a husband only wants one thing–well maybe a good meal, also, and throw in some sweetness for good measure.

Thanks for clearing this up, in Britain a jumper is what I suppose you might call a sweater - a knitted top, usually woollen, long sleeved with either a crew neck or a v-neck. I have spent much of this thread being very puzzled as to what the objection was!

Well, I guess you didn’t see a previous thread where someone asked if women should wear pants!! 😃
:o I did, I just figured you guys were very strange;)

I’m a jeans and t-shirt type of gal. Or hoodies, depending on how cold it is. I typically wear a nice pair of jeans and a nice shirt to Mass. I’m not a big fan of the jumper, but hey, if other ladies like them and they are modest, then go for it!

I don’t mind jumpers, but prefer something as modest but less…frumpy. It depends on body type.

I’m going to throw in my links here, and apologize if they’ve been repeated. Many have the ubiquitous jumpers, but there are more options from hich to choose. (I saw this thread at work and couldn’t wait to get home to post these!)

Not sure how tall or “big” you are, but the “city shorts” or Bermudas out this year at The Avenue and Lane Bryant are exceptionally long. I’m 5’10 with a 32" inseam and they are hitting me below the knee. However, they look nicer than capris because they are a straight wide leg with a cuffed bottom (that is undersewn so it cannot flip down the wrong way). They are in dressier fabrics than most capris/shorts, so I can wear them to my casual office with a nice top. These come in sizes 14-30/32, so I would imagine they have a pair that will fit you. My sister is 6’ and a 5x carrying her weight around her waist and she can wear their tall pants in the 30/32 sizes.

The Avenue has a nice selection of “talls” in summer slacks also. They will mail and email coupons if you sign up with them. I have rebuilt my wardrobe (after tossing 4 jumpers) by waiting for their occasional 40% off coupons in the mail and in mailbox flyers (between the grocery coupon sheets). I decided that defaulting to jumpers simply because I had gained weight was a cop out. I now have a nice selection of full skirts with fitted waists that make my waist look smaller and some nice linen dresses that are modest and still from this century’s styles.

Thank for the info. I have actually tried several Lane Bryant styles of shorts, and they look fine when I’m standing up, but as soon as I sit down, they go way, way too far up! Plus, I’ve been wanting to add something to my wardrobe that was, at least a little, more feminine. This is the jumper I got…

Why do people think jumpers are dowdy/frumpy?

Why do people think jumpers are dowdy/frumpy?
It depends on the woman wearing it. Some women have that certain je ne sais quoi that makes whatever they are wearing look good. Others could wear a vintage Chanel and still look not quite right.

People debate jumpers and pants (slacks) and their ability to be modest. I mostly wear skirts have some jumpers and slacks even walking shorts for mountain biking. Each under the proper circumstances can be modest or in-modest IMHO.

Skirts/dresses that are so short that when going up stairs the person two steps behind you sees your behind are not modest. Skirts/dresses so long as to present the danger of falling are not modest. Skirts that can be seen though are not modest.

Jumpers slit up the side, back or front to the hip are not modest. Jumpers that resemble aprons and with arm holes to the waist line without longish blouses are not modest unless worn over other clothing to protect it from dirt,.

Pants (slacks) that are so tight that you can not bend over without them sliding down to the “plumbers crack” are not modest for men or women. Pants when the person is bending or stooping tighten in places that tend to be uncomfortable and quite revealing. Pants that show the undergarment lines (or show when someone is not wearing undergarments
when being worn are not modest. Pants that are made of such flimsy material that you can see through them are not modest.

And each kind of clothing has its place if it fits properly and modestly.

Um - no - that’s call hygiene.

**noooo…hygiene is ‘clean’ toenails.😃
‘painted’ toenails would be ‘vanity’.
which carried to extreme would be a sin BUT…
‘i’ see NOTHING wrong with polishing my finger and toenails (though i USUALLY use rather sedate colors).
AND i see NOTHING wrong with wearing rather ‘revealing’ and ‘risque’ unmentionables under my modest clothing. i view THOSE garments for myself and husbands eyes ONLY (and for another poster who spoke of being able to see through a dress a woman was wearing a good SLIP cures THAT!🙂
on the flipside…part of MY personal modesty is that i’d never wear open toed shoes to church. i don’t know WHY but i’ve always thought them a bit immodest. i know—i’m odd.😛

Everything old is new again! Those are “shades of the 70s” jeans skirts!!! When I was a teenager, the gals in my school from Jeuss People USA used to wear them to the ground with modest blouses. The girls who were not so modest wore them with halter tops, cut short.
Hey, I’m making one right now, lol. And it ain’t ‘sew’ easy using that seam ripper on my old blue jeans as I thought it was going to be. Those levis’ are made tough.

Should we all start a Dowdy Women in Jumpers Guild? I’m starting to think it’s a good idea.😃

I agree with you. The only thing wrong is many of the places that sell skirts don’t sell slips. Target is one of the stores that stopped selling them because quote “no one buys them” un-quote. So when I find them I get a couple for safe keeping. LOL

And yes sexy undies is great for our husbands. I just don’t find many of them comfortable.🙂

How are long skirts/dresses immodest?
they aren’t.
‘dangerous’ would have been a better word.
you have to be EXTRA careful going up and downstairs or while working around things the extra material may get caught in.

Slit to the hip 🤷 and when you fall :o they can reveal more then you wanted to. LOL Anything can be made immodest.

**so it’s not just ME that finds what HUBBY likes a tad less than comfortable???😃
you just KNOW it was a man who designed the thong.
(and even if it wasn’t…i don’t care!😛 )
as for slips…
try the ‘better’ stores in your local mall.
usually their prices are WAY out of MY league BUT…especially the day after Christmas…there are AMAZING price cuts.
another option (as i’m sure you already know) is mail order.
vermont country store is a good source.🙂
