Hey, I love that song. As for all you people who are bashing Nirvana, Nevermind is probably the best album of all time. Even if you don’t happen to care for the lyrics…
In your opinion, it may very well be…

I’m casting my vote for “Up Up And Away.”

youtube.com/watch?v=90Bxb3oYzHY

Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon
Would you like to ride in my beautiful balloon
We could float among the stars together, you and I
For we can fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
The world’s a nicer place in my beautiful balloon
It wears a nicer face in my beautiful balloon
We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky
For we can fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
Suspended under a twilight canopy
We’ll search the clouds for a star to guide us
If by some chance you find yourself loving me
We’ll find a cloud to hide us
We’ll keep the moon beside us
Love is waiting there in my beautiful balloon
Way up in the air in my beautiful balloon
If you’ll hold my hand we’ll chase your dream across the sky
For we can fly we can fly
Up, up and away
My beautiful, my beautiful balloon
Balloon…

*Up, up, and away… *

Our family acts as though we’re putting on a life-long musical.

Not a day goes by without somebody saying a word or phrase and somebody else starting to belt out a song to ‘go along with’ the word or phrase, if you understand me.

For example, we’ll be chatting and somebody will say, "oh, sure, that’ll be the day. . .’

And one of us will start rocking, “That’ll be the day, when you say goodbye, that’ll be the day-ay-ay that I die”. . .etc.

We’re a FUN family. 😃
:rotfl: And I thought mine was the only family who did that!!! My mom is by far the biggest offender-- seriously, she’s a walking jukebox–but all of us do it.

As for worst songs…mmm, I have to vote for ‘Promiscuous’ by Nelly Furtado. It was really big in the London club scene when I was attending school there last fall, and while it’s great to dance to, the lyrics are ten kinds of appalling. I mean, when an American college kid is blushing–then you know it’s bad. 😃

Just about anything by Neil Diamond or Rod Stewart is up there. What an era for pop music. No wonder punk, metal, new Age music and New Wave music appeared – as well as the oldies craze. Something had to be done quickly!
I can’t stand that old song that goes “I started to laugh…” I started to turn the radio off. Or the one that goes, “I’m a travelin’ man, made a lot of stops all over the world…” and he proceeds to insult the women of each country one by one in a flat singsong for way too long. When I first heard MacArthur Park I thought it had to be a parody of something because no one would release a song that bad all by itself.

Not more Neil bashing! Okay, I admit I can’t take it. Oh, well. I suppose, as Dad says, if the whole world appreciated oysters there wouldn’t be any. Of course, that only makes complete sense if you know Dad.

Y’all have a nice day with your non-Neil music. Whatever it is! LOL

That Edie Brickell song is the worst.

Fine Young Cannibals - I can’t help myself yeech

Most pop/rock music is wretched anyway. I listen to Catholic talk radio and Latin Catholic hymns.

Heck with songs. I can dispense with whole genres here.
  • Rap. To me, rap means “I can’t sing”.
  • Hip-Hop…“All this money, and my clothes don’t fit.”
  • Grunge…“All this money, and I can’t afford soap.”
  • 80’s hair metal…“My clothes were rejected by Cher.” (PS “So was my makeup.”)
  • 80’s pop ballads…“Because first-aid kits do not contain insulin.”
  • Punk…“It takes a lot of money to look this bad.”
  • Grateful Dead…“Do weed. You won’t like us otherwise.”
  • Disco…“Coke, not weed, because I’m flammable.”
  • Britney-Christina-Ashley-etc…“I like forty-something guys who hang out in chat rooms…and so should your daughters.”
  • Boy bands…“Possibly not even anatomically correct! Safe for girls of all ages!”
  • Madonna…“Who haven’t I offended yet?”
  • Progressive Jazz…“We actually play swing, we’re just tuning up.”
  • Glee clubs…Because it’s just wrong

Worst?

Well being rock it certainly would at least be trailing the worst among them.

Now now…Neil ain’t all bad…yes, when he blows a lyric, he blows it big time:

“I am, I said…to noone there…and noone heard at all not even the chair…”
“Songs she sang to me, songs she brang to me…”

But he does sometimes give a good turn of phrase:

“And life filled to the brim
As I stood by my window
And looked out on those
Brooklyn roads…” *- Brooklyn Roads
*
“The room gets suddenly still
And when you’d almost bet
You could hear yourself sweat
He walks in…” - Brother Love’s Travellin’ Salvation Show

“And the seed,
Let it be full with tomorrow…” - Holly Holy

Besides, you gotta like a guy who names his dog “Shilo”… 😉

I am literally :rotfl:

Thanks! I needed that! 👍

I can’t remember who did it, but from the early 90’s, the one that goes 'just another night another dreama nother vision of love so true" or the one from around then, “I know you want this.” Did you ever see the video? It’s three or four attractive but disgustingly dressed women in a semi pulling up to a truckstop and flirting with some truck driving men. The men ignore them, because they have to keep the rig on the road and all, so they will have a job and live and stuff, so the women become furious and corner the men and dance menacingly up to them threatening not to sleep with them. That’s the best sense I could make of it. The men are shown as very scared (I bet) and sorry they angered these women.

My mom reckons that the Macarena was one of the worst ones to come out. She said that everyone is dancing around like hey I know I put it somewhere. Did I put it here? Nope not here,. Lets try here. Wrong again. Arrrghhh… I just gotta find where I put it. lol

Didn’t Neil Diamond also do that ET song?
some of those lyrics are just painful!
Glad someone agrees about Edie Brickell.
My brother seems to think she is ok, cuz she is married to Paul Simon.
sigh.
Nice to have validation for the songs we really cant stand!
My little girls wont listen to rap, most blues, hip hop or heavy metal or jazz… so I am very lucky they share the same dislikes.
