Probably not the best thing to say, considering that’s probably what his killer was thinking…Imagine there’s no Lennon…![]()

That brought this parody to mind…I was and still am a huge Beatles fan. John was a screwball, but a brilliant screwball who couldn’t keep his foot out of his mouth. I wish he’d channeled his energies and brilliance in better directions. I still miss the Beatles…
I remember calling the local DJ (back in the days when there were actually DJs at the local station rather than the same programming on all the stations) and asking him to play “Knights in White Armour”. “Er, it’s ‘Nights in White Satin’.” “Satin? What kind of protection is that for a Knight???” I’m sure he was peeing his pants laughing at the other end of the line. There’s a line in the Phil Collins song ‘That’s All’ that I misunderstood for years. The line was “Livin’ with you’s just-a puttin’ me through it all-a the time.” I thought he was singing “Livin’ with you’s just a pretty mean phooey all-a the time.” Well, I actually went into a record store to buy the album, couldn’t remember the title of the song and so I asked the sales guy for the album with the song that had “Livin with you is a pretty mean phooey…” He did finally get up off the floor and stopped laughing hysterically. Still, I think the line’s pretty appropos for lots of situations!
One of my local radio stations is doing “The Beatles A to Z”, playing all 200+ Beatles songs in aphabetical order.

I wonder what “The Beatitudes A to Z” would sound like.

Actually, I remember the comic strip Baby Blues did something like that, except in that case the “son” was baby Hammie.*Here comes the Son, here comes the Son
and I say it’s all right
Son, sun, Son, here He comes…
Son, sun, Son, here He comes…
Sun, sun, Son, here He comes…
Son, sun, Son, here He comes…
Son, sun, Son, here He comes…
Little darling, I feel that sin is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it’s been clear
Here comes the Son, here comes the Son,
and I say it’s all right
It’s all right*
‘That’s all’ is actually a Genesis song. But it sure sounds like one Phil Collins would make… probably because he wrote it before his solo career. The album it’s on doesn’t actually have a title, but Genesis fans tend to call it either “Mama” or “Pieces” or “Genesis”. So you’d probably have difficulty finding it if the store guy didn’t know such. I’m such a Genesis nerd. There’s a line in the Phil Collins song ‘That’s All’ that I misunderstood for years. Yea, he does sing it. It’s a good song too.But it was Phil Collins singing, right? It was back in the '80’s and I’m lucky to remember breakfast this morning…completely forgot about Genesis (sorry…)
I happen to like the Pina Colada song, but I know I’d be a little miffed if I found out it was my girlfriend/wife writing to the personals, as I’m sure she would be if I were answering one. What about “The Pina Colada Song”? Juvenile, schmaltzy, and as nauseating as the drink for which it is named!
OH MY! The kids used to sing that at Family Mass accompanied by a guitar strummer who suddenly went punk at the “sing hosanna…” reminiscent of The Vandals doing “So Long, Farewell”And, in the church music category, my daughter’s parochial school has a Holy, Holy, Holy that just about drives me through the wall:
