I seem to recall an English version of Da Da Da, where they translated those profound and mysterious lyrics from the German, like Nena did with her epic* 99 Luftballons*, and Falco did with his pompous anthem, Rock Me Amadeus, which also qualifies as one of the silliest, if not worst songs :).

Sorry, I don’t follow you. I certainly do think your opinion is as valuable as mine or anyone else on this board. I’m not trying to dismiss your opinion, just trying to understand what it’s based on.

As you say, some of these songs are guilty pleasures :).

There have been a few songs there were very popular, but for some reason they just did not click with me. In fact, I can’t stand hearing them, such as:

Beast of Burden, by the Stones
Babe, by Styx
Jackie Blue, by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils (what a strange name!)

There are more, but I’ve tried to block them from my memory.

“Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows” by Lesley Gore

I normally hate all happy clappy music and this is probably the most obnoxiously cheerful song there is. I first encountered this song in a cartoon on YouTube in which four guys were taking a tour of Hell and Lucifer showed them all each their personal hells. For one of them, it was a jukebox that would not stop playing this song even after he broke it.

A Girl Scout favorite. The Song That Gets on Everybody’s Nerves:

“The Emo Song” (a parody of SpongeBob’s “Fun Song”)

An interesting subset of the "worst song ever’ category might be ‘songs that are or were popular with everyone else but which you never appreciated’ to which I would nominate the entire oeuvre of Bruce Springsteen.

I agree wholeheartedly with the first two.

I kinda liked One Tin Soldier, but then I was only nine when it was a hit. The song was certainly better than Tom Laughlin’s acting in those Billy Jack movies!

One of my classmates was up for a part in the first one of those. He was supposed to be in the ice cream parlor scene and have one line: “I’ll take vanilla.” But he didn’t get the part.

On the other hand, I knew someone who ended up in the movie E.T. on a fluke.

Jeff Lynne of ELO did the same thing in Telephone Line.

Both songs are really about unrequited love, a theme that many of us know all too well :(, which explains their popularity
 
I could write a list a mile long of “worst songs”…but I won’t.
The 3 I despise the most (all competing for first place) are:

Que Sera Sera by Doris Day
99 Balloons by Nena
Piece of My Heart by Janis Joplin
 
Anything by the Beatles.

My conclusion is that there is something really dark about the Beatles. It’s not just a happy “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da Life Goes On” quartet. There is something sinister here. This album cover just screams it. It’s not normal.

However, I think the biggest wrecking ball of Western culture might have been resting in every American’s record collection (or iPod) – John, Paul, Ringo, and George!

I don’t want to go to rehab. Singer shoud have gone or she might be alive today but thats another topic.
