Would anything make you seriously question the Catholic Church?

You and VonDerTann expressed extremely racist opinions. The sad thing is you’re completely blind to how deeply hurtful the posts were to me as an African American and furthermore I doubt you even care!

The problem certainly isn’t me. I’ve tried repeatedly to stay on topic. I can’t believe someone would seriously make the statement below.

"Thank you.

FWIW, there’s also no “NAAWP”‘specifically dedicated to helping whites like there exists an NAACP".

The post asking why there isn’t a National Association for the Advancement of White People. That’s what NAAWP means. The NAACP was founded to protect and defend the Civil Rights of African Americans. Justice Thurgood Marshall was a member. Is the comment by VonDerTann acceptable to the members of this forum or not?

I will not allow racism to go unchallenged. I would defend any group so egregiously attacked!

I didn’t call everyone that disagrees racist. I responded to blatantly racist and stereotypical comments. I started out discussing why I’m no longer Catholic. Support of Donald Trump is the final nail in the coffin. I never mentioned race beyond that comment. Other people, like VonDerTann and Raxus attacked me!

I’ve called and reported what happens on this forum to Catholic Answers in San Diego. Goodbye!

I said this initially. People defended their precious America and that’s how it devolved.

"I’m not on the Left or the Right. I am a Moderate. I believe very strongly in free will. I reject authoritarianism, autocracy, and absolutism. I am not Liberal or Conservative. I live in the West because my ancestors were forcibly relocated to a Western country, enslaved and subsequently dehumanized and mistreated. I am not a Nationalist. I am a human being first and foremost. I support a sociopolitical and economic system akin to that which exists in Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada, Germany, etc. If I ever have the financial resources, I’ll probably move abroad and become a citizen elsewhere, not because other nations are perfect, but because based on the history of my people in America I don’t have a preference for this country.

*This thread is not about politics. I don’t want to debate the merits of America vs. other nations. It’s about the Catholic Church. Let’s stay on topic."

I think we can bring race into this, if it relates to the topic.

May I ask you a question @glencor63? I have mentioned it in a different post but you probably missed it while arguing with the others.

You said the support for Trump by some leaders of the Catholic Church was the final straw for you.

Do you believe the Catholic Church is racist? If so, do you believe this because some US clergy are supporting Trump?

I don’t believe the Catholic Church is racist per se. I believe it struggles with racism. The response of many Catholic leaders to Donald Trump, as well as the persecution I’ve experienced for voting for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris was the final nail in the coffin of my Catholic faith. Truthfully, I left the Church spiritually and psychologically a long time ago. I just needed a final push. What I’ve encountered on Catholic Answers Forum confirms my decision. Peace!

I’m a Christian because I believe in Jesus Christ. I’m a better Christian because I deeply love all God’s children and would die to free them from oppression. I would lay down my life for my brother whom I can see.

You’re right. Signing off and logging out. LOL 😂! I guess I was hoping for a reason to remain. Alas! Thank you for your prayers. God bless! I truly wish you well.

Sad to hear that. I can only say I too have found numerus Catholic clergy, Catholic politicians and Catholic lay people and did not like very much, because of what they taught, said or did, but this is the Church, the one true Church, and I don’t think you are going to find anything more authentic elsewhere (although you’re welcome to look).

As I also said in my other post, Catholicism is probably the most multicultural and multiracial denomination of Christianity and probably religion in general. I think one reason why many US Protestants didn’t like Catholicism so much, was precisely because it was so multiracial and multinational.

Okay let’s try and cool the temperature of the arguments here and move past the issue of race in America, as it isn’t getting us anywhere and is quite a bit off topic (plus we have quite a few other threads on this). There are clearly different viewpoints on this and when both sides get highly emotional, people can say things they do not mean and it doesn’t lead anywhere good.

It would be a shame for the topic to close, as it has had some interesting contributions, and could still have others. I do however suspect there are going to be a lot of deleted posts and the thread is (sadly) probably going to have a time limit put on it (or be closed completely) once a moderator gets a look at it.
