Would you say you are 'high' or 'low' maintenance?

I’m with you, Sarah. I didn’t get my first pedicure till my daughter got one for prom on her 18th birthday. I sat there and watched her and thought about what I was doing 18 years before and decided I deserved a pedicure too.

Apparently everyone thinks I’m no maintenance.

Would a simple thank you once a year be too much? 😦

I’m picky about stuff but do all the work to fulfill my expectations. So it’s not like I put a burden on anyone, say, demanding clothes not be thrown on the floor.

Being no maintenance, the xh still left me. He couldn’t even keep that going. HE was very high maintenance. Took enough for both of us. Never again with that!

OK, I’ll say it, I am a high maintenance kinda gal 😛

I need lots of attention, little gifts to show you care, and **it takes me forever to get ready to go anywhere. **

I don’t need expensive stuff, just lots and lots and lots of attention. I expect my man to spend more time with me than with the guys. I expect him to care about my feelings and wants.

Its funny though, my dh doesn’t consider me “high maintenance”, but my BIL does. However my dh thinks his brothers wife is high maintenance, she has to have the newest and nicest of everything, but her man hardly ever spends time with her, he is too busy with golf and hanging out with his buddies. So it can def mean different things to different people.
To my husband and I, it means that everything has to be the way you want it. If you ask for dressing on the side and it comes on the salad, would you send it back? If you asked your husband to buy you something specific for a holiday, and he gets you something else, are you upset? Can you make it out of the house, if you had to, in less than 30 minutes? (I packed for a 3 day trip, for three people, for a funeral, in less than an hour)

Have you ever seen the movie, “When Harry met Sally?” In the movie, Harry explains to Sally what high maintenance means.

It is something we, my husband and I, have talked about at length. I am low maintenance, except with food. And until I was diagnosed with Celiac, I was low maintenance all around.

Compared to some of my girl friends, I’m extremely low maintenance. You should’ve seen the looks I got when I told them I’ve never had a manicure or pedicure or had my hair done at a “salon.” Looked a bit like this… To me that always seemed to be an unecessary expenditure. I guess it has a lot to do with how you grow up, even though it can go both ways. My parents never had a lot of money so I’ve never had the best or most expensive stuff and all the extra’s other people seem to need are pointless to me. 🤷
I never had a manicure until my dh bought me a gift card for one! And I’m not into buying lots of shoes the way some women are. I could never understand that.
But I do like nice clothes and having my hubby take me out to dinner sometimes. So I guess I’m sort of a high/low.😉
A few weeks ago I was volunteering at a St. Vincent de Paul store and another lady and I were talking about our husbands. She said that she’s been married for 20some years and her husband never brings her flowers or gives her cards for Valentine’s day or her birthday. She said it never really bothered her except when she was working in an office and her coworkers got flowers and she never got any. I felt sorry for her. I told her she should send herself flowers and then tell her husband,“Guess what honey, I did something for you today and you don’t even know what it was!”.
That would bother me!😦

* :rotfl: I’m kidding. lol:D

I don’t know if that’s high maintenance or just being lazy on my part…lol I just hate painting my own nails, and they chip like 30 minutes later…blah. My husband doesn’t understand this, but he has his things…we all have our ‘things’ we like to do…this is my thing. I have never had a pedicure done though…I don’t know if I want someone touching my feet. :hmmm: lol But I see women with them done everywhere here in florida, the land of the flip flop…and they look pretty. 🙂 I just can’t justify that expense, something for my feet. DH might flip. lol*

Oh no, that is not acceptable. What? No card even? My dh and I don’t go all out on Valentine’s day, but we at least do cards, a nice dinner I might cook, he’ll bring flowers…I think we need to of course demonstrate our love in ways EVERY day, but that is a day that couples like feel special. It would be bother me as well. Aw. I feel bad for her! :(*

Your ex seems totally high maintenance, and you are a gem, Liberano. He was a fool, no doubt to let you go. :hug1:

*Hi Peter, what are you picky about?

Come to think of it, my husband is picky about certain things…like housecleaning, or laundry. Has to be done a ‘‘certain’’ way…are you picky like that? *

Very interesting topic!

I guess I’m of the very low maintenance variety. My husband is quite thoughtful, never forgets birthdays, etc., and I tell him to “keep it simple.” I just don’t need lots of $$$ spent on me to let me know that I’m important to him; he shows it all the time. I’m happy with a simple lunch out at our favorite Thai restaurant and the hilarious cards he always manages to find.

I’m never happier than when we’re able to be together with family; that is rare for us, with one daughter and husband on the West coast now, and my dad up in New England. I live for the Christmases when both girls and husbands are here (every other year, currently.) I am so grateful that younger daughter and hubby are in town now for the next 3-4 years for grad school; heaven!

Manicures, pedicures…I just don’t spend money on that; it’s easy enough to do myself. It’s against my religion to pay full price for clothes, etc. I simply cannot do it, so I am quite the sale shopper (when I can force myself to go!)

The one thing we do love is travel; it’s something we never did at all growing up, so both of us love it now. I’d rather spend money on that than pedicures, massages, expensive clothes, etc. (Though I am an expert at cheap travel, too!)

I guess I think that “stuff” isn’t that important.

LOL! I think you have a good self image of yourself…that’s good! Only ‘knowing’ you here online, I would dub you leaning towards the high maintenance category :hmmm:…only as to what you say here. You seem to be very picky…and truthfully, there is nothing wrong with that.

Thank you. Well, you might be right.

I NEVER liked when guy friends of mine would refer to the girls they were dating back in college, as low maintenance. They always meant it in a bad way…like…the girls never had opinions, always did what the guys wanted to do…

Yeah, that’s bad of them (guys). On the other hand, “high maintenance girl” can have a not so pleasant connotation, too. These last days, I’ve been playing the 2004 remake of the original Pirates! game. It’s a wonderful thing for gloomy moods in gloomy times and I’ve been in need of something like that of late. Everything is exaggerated in a joking way and the routine with a governor’s daughter is more or less like this: you become a captain and distinguish yourself a bit, then the governor introduces you to his daughter. She tells you you will be allowed to accompany her to a ball when you’ve become a colonel (if she’s attractive) or baron (if she’s beautiful). So you gotta pound real hard on those Spaniards and come back. Then you need to pull off that horrifying dance sequence (getting mercilessly frowned upon if you misstep) and it’s already hard even without the special moves. If you get through that, the next time or two you visit her she says she’s always wanted to have a ruby ring or a diamond necklace. So you go get it and bring it back or dispense one on the spot (you probably carry one just in case anyway :p). When you’ve given her that, the next time you visit her, she tells you that her fiancee, a jealous lieutenant is getting errr… jealous of the gift you gave her and he demands satisfaction, so you’ll have something to do the next time you visit her (even though she sincerely hates violence etc etc). So you think, I had to become a bleeping baron to invite her to a ball and a captain even to talk to her and all the time she was affianced to a lieutenant! And she actually “trusts in your ability” as you go count her fiance’s ribs with an iron stick. Great. And after that she gets kidnapped by some Spanish colonel Mendoza that keeps her on the biggest ship ever with 40 cannons and 300 doods. So you reassure her weeping father that you’re teach the Spanish one once again and after your daring rescue she starts talking about “our future” and communicates to her father that, “Baron/Count/Marquis/Duke (whatever you’ve become by then) will be asking you an important question the next time he visits us.” She doesn’t even ask your opinion in the whole process. 😛

So, if that’s high maintenance, pour me more rum… err… I mean, pour me some rum instead! 😛
I guess there are a lot of opinions of this, come to think of it! But, to me, that is not a good thing to be…a woman who just goes along with no idea of who she is, or what she wants. Then, there is the other extreme. :rotfl:
Being somewhat subjugated is a sad condition, but probably not her fault. Being a shrewd wretch is a whole different cup of fish!

*Yes we all have our ‘things.’ Í think that traveling would be a nice thing to add to our list someday…it is nice that you and your dh can do that, dixie.🙂

I personally find manicures to be a waste. Chips just like you did them yourself. 😛 I do like an overlay over top of my own nails though. Then, the paint never chips! And if you find a talented nail tech, she can make them look natural. My dh thinks it’s a total waste, but he has his own things he likes, so…to each’s own, I suppose. :o*

I never got into shoes either…I mean, I have a few pairs…but never really cared about buying pricey shoes for every occasion. I have friends who are obsessed with purses and shoes. Not me, 🤷

oh my gosh, that IS high maintenance. They should rename the game, Glutton for Punishment. :rotfl:*

Last pair of new shoes I had was 4 years ago.

Never had a mani or pedi.

Have not had dinner in a sit down restaurant with my husband or son for well over a year.

Own one bra that fits.

Wear the same 3 pair of jeans and 1 pair of dress slacks in rotation -

I am about as low maintenance as they come.

And my DD (14) is starting to be HM. Have to break that habit quick!

"now where did I put my bat…?

Well, you do get 10 fame points and it kinda helps your social standing… And you can get scraps of treasure maps (50000 gold pieces!) if you keep dancing with her. And the music is lovely… minuets and gavots and all, vastly superior to **** I’ve had to dance to in real life!

I know, my dd is becoming a bit of the same. I ‘need’ this conditioner…I need to shop here…I need…I need…I said…you don’t need any of this. It is perfectly ‘‘okay’’ to want certain things…nothing wrong with owning nice things, BUT…do not categorize them as ‘‘needs.’’ You need God, shelter, a bed, food, and water. (and clothes) But, the rest, not needs. *

It reminds me vaguely of an online medieval game that my daughter plays.

I think is is because the girl I was dating at the time was a little too “laid back”. She viewed excersize as running to the pantry to get Cheez-its!
Ummmm, yeah rascalking, that would be why she said that…😛
