Haven’t read all the threads, but want to say that science, like everything else, is of God. And like everything else, it is subject to misconceptions due to our not being able to fully know and understand it. And as with everything else, we should pray for the wisdom to use and apply what we do know, wisely.

What is it in oujr society that causes people to totally reject science and technology to embrace that the world is only 6000 years old? It’s rather sad.
Great question. Truth has imbedded itself in successive generations. Somehow evolution is not ringing true.

And people are not rejecting technology and all science. They are using it and embracing it everyday.

Barbarian wonders:
Wonder, if he gets sick, if he’s going to reject “atheistic” antibiotic protocols.

Or if his toilet backs up, he’ll refuse to consider “atheistic” plumbing.

Or…
Terrible examples
Perfect examples. Antibiotic protocols are designed according to evolutionary theory. And of course, plumbing is methodologically naturalistic, just like science.

It’s just that he doesn’t happen to be offended by the way God did hydraulics. But if he’s consistent, he wouldn’t be willing to take antibiotics according to evolutionary theory.

Natural antibiotics were known to man long ago. Perhaps not by the modern term. Antibiotics mostly were derived from natural sources, synthesized in the lab because they could get patent protection and make money.

Somehow evolution is not ringing true.
Slowly but surely. For the first time, four years ago, the Gallup Poll had an absolute majority of Americans accepting evolution. It had been a plurality for many years, but in recent years, at least 50% have accepted the basic theory of biology. The high water mark for creationism was 47%, and it has now declined to 44%.

Not a lot of progress, but progress, nonetheless.

It seems to be tracking the rising educational level of Americans. The more one knows about evolution, the more likely one is to accept it.

But not bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Nor was the mechanism of antibiotic resistance understood until natural selection was discovered. Antibiotic protocols use evolutionary theory to most effectively apply antibiotics in a way that delays the evolution of antibiotic resistance.

One researcher has gone a step further, analyzing the responses of bacteria to predict the likely evolution of additional resistance to help determine how to avoid that resistance in the future:

Darwin’s Time Machine: Scientists Begin Predicting Evolution’s Next Step

**ScienceDaily (Mar. 20, 2002) — Untangling the branches of evolution’s past is a daunting enough task for researchers, but some scientists are now turning their eyes toward the future in a bid to predict evolution’s course. Barry G. Hall, professor of biology at the University of Rochester, has shown how a model of evolution developed in the lab accurately reproduces natural evolution. The research, published in the March issue of Genetics, demonstrates how the model is so accurate that it can be used to predict how a strain of bacteria will become resistant to antibiotics-giving researchers a possible tool to create drugs to which bacteria cannot adapt. **

Antibiotic protocols are treatment plans designed so as to minimize the evolution of resistant bacteria. This is why you should follow directions for taking antibiotics very closely. Failure to do so could increase the likelihood of a new strain of resistance evolving.

Acceptance of evolution apparently has little to do with the educational level of Americans. Americans who often need remedial courses in writing and other basics when entering college. You are simply measuring the results of a propaganda campaign.

Peace,
Ed

That is false, I know more about evolution now than I did and reject it still, the smarter and more educated on gets they will drop stupid thins like evolution

historyb is a marvellous role model for the idea that high intelligence and deep learning result in the rejection of the stupidity of modern biology. Keep it up, historyb, you don’t realise just how much good you are doing.

And what comic books have you been reading? 😛

Organisms have adaptive capability. So I would reword this - Be careful… an adaptation could take place.

why isn’t God not a “she?”
…it is to some non-Christian religions–their deity/ies can be male and female and animal and a multiplural being… if you are Catholic, He can only BE YAHWEH, GOD, your FATHER (or BROTHER) (of MALE GIVER of LIFE)!

Maran atha!

Organisms have adaptive capability.
No. Populations have adaptive capability. It’s random mutation and natural selection. And yes, it’s been tested and observed to happen. However, the genomes of individuals are not adaptive; they remain the same for a lifetime.

Yep. Evolution. That’s what adaptation is. Gotta tell you, as a teacher, I often use “change over time” or “adaptation” early on, and it’s interesting to see the reactions when they realize what it is.

One student exclaimed; “but that’s just common sense.”

Yep.

Eden existed on a different plane and dimension.

Young Earth and Old Earth are both true!

If anyone tried to travel from our plane to Eden’s plane they would be stopped by the angel with the sword!

Eden exists in present day Iraq on a different plane and dimension.

It is as real beneath the accidents of present day and time Iraq as Jesus is present beneath the accidents of bread and wine in the Eucharist!

For all the Catholics out there who believe in the substantial presence of Jesus in the eucharist–whether old earth evolution believers or young earth literal creationist believers–do you have any problem with my explanation?
Hi, Jerry-Jet!

…your explanation on the Transubstantiation or on the existence of Eden in a parallel dimention, in Iraq?

Maran atha!

OK. I see, I think. Do you think that was why Mary was made co-redemptress, because people were missing the female principle in Catholicism?

We could call it the evolution of Catholicism, if you like.

So we should all accept that the Earth was created 6,000 years ago, at a time when the Mesopotamians already were brewing beer?

Respectfully,

Tor

Mary was cooperative right from the beginning. Naming her the cooperating redemptrix (co-redemptrix) is a formality.

Latin - Woman with the Redeemer

But this was a recent development, no? I think I remember it happened around 1991 or so.
