If he was allowed to walk away, there would be no charges, by definition.
No, because time continues to flow in a forward direction. He was allowed to walk away by the police on the scene, that is hard to contest. He was later arrested at his home by different police, also hard to contest. Hence, both are true.

Rittenhouse makes a better case for not de-funding the police. Without police, then what he did would be the only other option for defense. Some people cannot defend themselves, so they will look to inexperienced, sophomoric gun-toters to come “defend” them.
I agree. One does need to consider the possibility that competing “gangs” is exactly what the rioter/police defunders want.

He walked toward the police.

He’s been charged.
Question: one of the goals of this movement is to do away with cash bail, prisons, etc.
so what difference does it make?

He walked toward the police.
Toward, and then past, and then on to a car, and then back home, yes. It may be that the police did not notice him walking, hands in the air, with an assault rifle. If so, then I would agree that they did not let him go, but that may indicate other problems.

Prisons? I don’t know what “movement” you are talking about but I don’t know about doing away with prisons. There are some who want to reform bail, but I am not sure how that is relevant here (or exactly what they want). Is Rittenhouse out on bail?

You said this is what it would be like under Biden’s America
Biden himself says this rioting will only stop if he’s elected. His people bail these criminals out of jail. Where are the Trump supporters who have been burning buildings and killing people?
this is what it is under Trump’s America
Trump had nothing to do with it whatever. If any president or contender bears direct responsibility, it would be Obama who, after Ferguson and Baltimore, blamed the police and not the guilty.
Biden will follow in his footsteps.
Ridgerunner said it would be like this under Biden, so I was pointing out it is already like this under Trump.
He was allowed to ‘walk away’ that night.
He was allowed to ‘walk away’ that night.
Did the police see all of it or didn’t they? If they did and let him walk, likely they didn’t think he committed a crime. If they didn’t see it, what is the reason they should have stopped him?

Apparently part of the Democratic Party

They charged him. No need to worry about where he is.

Again, what difference does it make?
For me, if they saw him, they should have arrested him. He didn’t have an assault rifle. He had an AR-15.

Again, not my community, but where I live we like the cops to apprehend folks that are shooting other folks.

It is possible he is right because it is unlikely that Trump will address white privilege and the systematic racism that caused these riots.
White privilege is a racist charge, by definition.
If there is systematic institutional racism, and progressives are in charge of the institutions - police departments, large city governments, colleges and universities, State and federal departments of education, the tech industry, etc. - who is responsible for the racism?

I don’t live in that community, but in my community we try to keep track of the murderers.
So, you are now the judge that he committed murder? I prefer due process and the presumption of innocence.

I am not a judge, but I do want him in front of a judge (and a jury). Seems like there was probably cause to arrest him, so I am guessing he is in custody right now. That seems like the right place for him while due process is carried out.

Me, too. I also like the cops to stop looting, arson, assaults, destruction of personal property. I don’t see that going on a lot in Chicago, Portland, Seattle, etc.
I’d like to see them arrested, too.

Of course, I want the law enforced fairly and equally. And that includes not allowing people to be gunned down in the street.

Then don’t accuse him of murder without evidence. In fact, the video evidence seems to point to self defense, but that’s just presumption of innocence. Wait for the investigation.

On this we agree.

I wouldn’t say there is no evidence. There was enough to arrest him and hold him. Whether there is enough to convict him remains to be seen. Given that he appears to be admitting to the killings (based on his lawyer’s statements), I would say that conviction seems pretty likely, though.

Trump’s America looks like and it is an America being torn apart because of the desire to keep the systematic racism of police in place.
Trump doesn’t run the police. They are governed by states and municipal authorities. In these riot scenarios, the authorities in charge of the police are almost totally Democrats.

And the “systematic racism” of police has been debunked numerous times, unless you want to claim that black policemen are also racist against black cirminals.
People were telling the police that he had shot people. Now, I am not a police officer, but, if I were, and someone told me a heavily armed teen had just shot three people, I would disarm that person and keep him with me until I could investigate what happened 100 yards down the street.
What is going to happen is that a judge or jury is going to determine what this guy did and the nature of it. From what that reporter said, it seems doubtful to me. But no matter what, it’s for the triers of fact to determine. It is your understanding, expressed here, that someone told the cops a teen had just shot three people. Maybe that’s true, and maybe it isn’t. Maybe the cops saw it and maybe they didn’t. Maybe the police had something they deemed more imminently dangerous. After all, some 20 plus shots were fired, mostly not by this kid. So what and where were the others?

I realize some want to make this part of a “race war”, but I think that’s just wishful thinking on the part of people who want one for the reasons some people want race wars.

You said he was a murderer.
Whether there is enough to convict him remains to be seen. Given that he appears to be admitting to the killings (based on his lawyer’s statements), I would say that conviction seems pretty likely, though.
He is admitting to self defense. That’s not murder. That’s a basic human right.

Then don’t accuse him of murder without evidence.
But he is accused of murder. He has been indicted for it. All that can be said is at this point he has not been found guilty.
