Swinney was arrested on Wednesday morning

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Well-known right-wing protester and Proud Boys member Alan Swinney is spending the morning in police custody, according to Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt.

Swinney was arrested by Portland police shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning — weeks after an indictment was issued on September 11. The 50-year-old is facing 12 total charges, including multiple for assault, unlawful use of a weapon, pointing a firearm at another person and unlawful use of mace.

According to the district attorney’s office, the indictment alleges Swinney fired a paintball gun at another person at a protest on August 15. That paintball shot caused physical harm to the individual. He is also accused of unlawfully using mace or a similar substance against another person and attempting to assault others on the same day.

Swinney also used the same substance while attending a pro-Trump rally in Portland on August 22. Videos posted on social media show he pointed a paintball gun at counter-protesters on the same day — at one point, firing off a paintball and hurting another person once again.

A short time later, more videos were posted that captured Swinney aiming a real gun into the crowd. No shots were fired, but he is now facing charges stemming from the incident and his other actions throughout the day.

The lawsuit alleged Swinney has shown a previous history of irresponsible gun ownership, such as “traveling to Oregon to organize substantial and purposefully violent rallies and events.”

I guess one can stand by in jail. At least two of the assaults were against women, no surprise there. These proud boys that Trump wants on standby sure like beating on women. I am sure their mamas must be proud too.

I still encounter claims that the Proud Boys are very fine people. I can only imagine that is a reference to Trump’s statement that there are very fine people on both sides in response to the “Unite the Right” rally.

Well, they actually answer to the progressive Democrat mayors who are complicit with their violence. They are the ones who tell the police to stand down in order to allow the violence, and the criminal activity that targets inner city people of color. And why is this going on? Because of Isolated incidents of Police shootings by officers who work directly for progressive Democrat mayors.
No. This isn’t Trump’s doing. From top to bottom, this is the doing of the progressive left, not surprisingly during an election year.

They are not. There is effectively no difference between them and Antifa. Un-American, violent, destructive, and a danger to the republic.
All Americans of good will should reject them all.

Putting aside that the representation of Trump’s response has been twisted, the phrase, “very fine people on both sides“ is wrong on all counts. There were no good people on either side. There are no good people in neo-Nazi groups or fascistic Antifa groups There are no good people in racist KKK or racist BLM groups.

There seems to be a connection between the incel online community and white supremacists.

It won’t surprise me if these proud boys are also proud misogynists.
 
you can bail out anyone you want. those people are only accused of crimes, not convicted
 
what does my opinion matter? the law say you have the right to reasonable bail.
 
This arrest provides some of the context for the Aug 29 slaying of a member of another right leaning group, A. Danielson of Patriot Prayer.

Apparently demonstrations like this have been going on for years in Portland, with confrontations between right and left periodically breaking out into violence. Guns are forbidden at the rallies, which explains some of the charges.
