Would the outcome have possibly been that 26, plus the shooter and his mother, would still be alive?
Possible? Yes? Likely? No. Deranged individuals have found ways to kill numerous people with different tools. He could have used handguns with 10 round magazines (VA Tech) or shotguns (Columbine). The deadliest attack on a school didn’t involve guns, much less “assault weapons”. Timothy McVeigh didn’t need a single gun, assault or no. Nor did the 9/11 highjackers.

I’m not willing to live in a tyrannical police state based on possibilities.

But but but - can’t we just blame the guns?

Please?

Actually HAND GUNS are responsible for far more murders.

But since you are predictably headed in this direction - you would be open to ban ALL guns. Wouldn’t you.

And no, I’ve never posted under any other name in here. You’re paranoid.
I have not said, ‘I would be open to ban ALL guns.’ Now what did you say about ‘paranoid?’

The fact is, I have grown up around guns, served in the military, worked as a law enforcement officer, and own guns right now; that I hunt with, and consider home defense, in case the worst case scenario were to ever happen.

I have no problems with background checks for ALL gun sales, including private sales. I read that 40% of criminals obtain possession of the guns they used from private sales, and family members. I have no problem with registrations for ALL guns, for accountability purposes if a gun were used in a crime. I have no problem in requiring secure storage for ALL guns, when not in use. I have no problem with certain guns being removed from the public, if they prove to be a problem to innocent life.

But then, I am a law abiding citizen who thinks it’s the right thing to do, to put innocent life above my own personal desires, and would gladly make those type sacrifices, which are no more than minor inconveniences, if it could even ‘possibly’ save lives.

Your style reminds me of someone who posted here in recent months. We sometimes have posters who return under different names, for ‘various’ reasons. It was a question, and not being paranoid.

So, majority ruling is a ‘tyrannical police state?’ Describe democracy please.

“I will make a ‘sacrifice’ for something that I don’t own, or have any desire to own. Just so long as those law abiding people who own or desire to own these either can’t have it, or have their personal property taken from them, under pain of imprisonment. All for the children™!”

How magnanimous of you.

Part of that oath of enlistment is defending the Constitution. I’m sorry, but locking up citizens for owning guns you don’t like is a pretty far cry from it.

The unified sheriffs of Florida don’t think so.
What will the unified sheriffs of Florida do if the feds withhold grant money? I know one of those sheriffs personally. He was just elected in a rural county. Federal grant money means a lot. 😉

watchdogwire.com/florida/2013/02/17/all-67-florida-county-sheriffs-sign-pledge-to-protect-the-right-of-citizens-to-bear-arms/

this will be interesting if they are put to the test and do as they have sworn since Mack and Printz v. United States ruled in favor of the county sheriffs in refusing to enforce the Brady Bill.
I have no real expertise on Constitutional Law, but I was under the impression that the Federal Government does not have the Constitutional authority to ban firearms. However, the states do have such authority, within some limits.

It is against forum rules to speak about a poster, let alone make veiled accusations.

It is also, as you pointed out, against charity.😉

Your statement seems to minimize the deaths of all those children in Connecticut, in my honest opinion.

Part of the oath is to serve the commander in chief. How many people are serving in the military right now?

The 2nd amendment doesn’t state any type gun is permissible and I believe the supreme court has said the government has a right to define those that are. That’s summarizing, of course.

Many have:

“The one pervading evil of democracy is the tyranny of the majority, or rather of that party, not always the majority, that succeeds, by force or fraud, in carrying elections.”

-Lord Acton

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. It is in vain to say that democracy is less vain, less proud, less selfish, less ambitious, or less avaricious than aristocracy or monarchy.

-John Adams

Democracy will prevail when men believe the vote of Judas as good as that of Jesus Christ.

-Thomas Carlyle

And my personal favorite:

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.

-Benjamin Franklin (may be misattributed).

Luckily, we live in a Republic with recognition of certain rights which may not be taken, not even by a 99% vote.

Hopefully they will do what you and I promised when entering military service and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

It was an open question and there is nothing to accuse, is there?

Thank you for pointing out a possible lack of charity. There seems to be so much overlooked. 😉

  • “For me, regulating and controlling guns is part of building a Culture of Life, of doing what we can to protect and defend human life. The easy access to guns, including assault weapons, that exists in our nation has contributed towards a Culture of Death, where human life and dignity are cheapened by the threat of violence. No law, no piece of legislation, will ever be able to protect us from every act of aggression, or from the harm that can come from an individual bent on killing. But, we must do what we can to minimize the opportunities for such acts, by limiting the easy access to guns – and, I would add, by increasing funding for programs to treat those who suffer from mental illness, especially those that might lead someone to commit mass murder.” *

Keep telling yourself that.

When did you stop beating your wife?😉

No, because banning those guns would not have saved those children.

Sorry, I took the officer’s oath, which doesnt include the CiC.

And yet decisions like Heller showed outright bans to be unConstititional. The handgun bans in Chicago and New York are a shining example of why gun bans don’t work.

There is thread for Cardinal Dolan and gun restrictions. This post is off topic, as you like to say.😉
