Not surprisingly Ron Paul is the only one speaking out against the creation of the Super Congress, leading me to believe that all the others would simply be part of the system, business as usual controlled politicians.

She is not going to run
This is correct. I am sticking to my prediction of a month or so ago that Rick Perry will be the 2012 nominee. However, he may be waiting too long to get in to the race. The word is that he plans to announce in late August. I think right now there is a less than 1 in 10 chance that he won’t run. There are some grumblings apaprently amongst insiders that another Texan may not be what the Republicans need this time around. I think you’ve made that point before Estesbob. Here’s the link for the article in Politico:

I think romney damaged himself by maintaining radio silence during the Debt Ceiling debate. It stoked the suspicion amongst hard core conservatives that he lacks a commitment to conservative values at his core. In other words, he’s a craven politician. Still, he is leading in most polls and has overtaken Obama in key states such as Pennsylvania and Florida.

This is an article from the National Journal. They conducted a poll of Republican political insiders and show Romney scoring the highest rating thus far as being the eventual nominee, but Perry has surged in to second place. There is also a link within the article for a similar poll conducted amongst Democratic insiders. They also see Perry as the main challenger to Romney. I didn’t read the Democratic poll. The list of “insiders” is at the bottom of the article. So, you can judge for yourself whether it has credibility.

The meme on Perry throughout is that while he may be the flavor of the month, he may not bear up under scrutiny. There are already stories being written in Texas newspapers calling in to question the jobs record in Texas. This is Perry’s main strength along with his perceived ability to garner both establishment support as well as Tea Party support. However, surprising as it is for me, he seems to be getting tepid support at best to date. Everything changes once he announces.

I am still predicting he will be the nominee.

And if she does, she will not get the nomination.
You have no idea about the passion of those who support Sarah Palin. She is a REAL leader, and people will respond favorably. She's going to break through the phony caricature when she announces like a hammer breaking an eggshell. And yes, Bob, she is running. :D Rob

And the Houston Astros are going to win the World series this year…

NOW you're making me mad, Bob. I'll have you know that my Detroit Tigers have already been sized for their World Series rings. Rob
P.S. Watch Tuesday's Hannity video, or the Chris Wallace interview with Gov. Palin. The Sarah Palin meme is about to be shattered. It never was true, and soon everyone will know it. ;)

Easier to note those I definitely would NOT vote for. These are Bachman, Palin, Santorum, Gingrich and Guiliani. None of the rest impress me much, either.

Romney probably is the best qualified, but he leaves me cold. I also have to admit that I have some qualms about having a Mormon in the White House. The aggressive Mormon missionary efforts would exploit it to win converts.

As for Pawlenty, not sure yet. Same for Perry, perhaps, though his 'hints' at Texas secession troubled me. It helps that he has a bust of Lincoln in his office.

The Republican politician I admire most (so far) is that new GOP senator from Massachuetts. He seems mild and moderate, reasonable and rational. which can't be said for several others. I also like Lugar (too old), Most of the candidates listed are unlikely to defeat Obama. My impression is that most Americans (I among them) prefer to avoid political dogmatists. We need a President who would promote unity and not further division.

I don’t think she is running. Frankly I think she would be stupid to run this time, the liberal press will just rerun all the stuff from 4 years ago. Although I do like her.

I’d vote for Giuliani!

For many reasons: 1. I lived in Brooklyn
2. He did a lot for NYC (lowered the crime rate significantly during his mayorship and brought NYC in to the green)
3. He’s proven himself to work well under pressure (look what he did during 9/11)
That song is getting kind of old. What has he done for us lately?

This thread is a misnomer – I would not vote for the Republican nominee.

Oh, and let me comment on Ron Paul. I admire his position on various foreign policy matters. Keep out of unnecessary wars, which have been a major factor in leading to our current fiscal crisis. The Iraq debacle was especially stupid. And we will be facing the consequences of this gigantic mistake for years to come.

But when it comes to some domestic isses, Paul is a near-anarchist. I salute the way he stands by principle, but don't agree with many of those principles.

PS He has been one of a tiny handful in Congress who have had the commendable courage and common sense to vote against our continual bowing before Israel. Most of those in Congress are afraid to buck the powerful Israel lobby. Unfortunately, most Americans have been brainwashed by the media or by evangelical preachers to do Israel's bidding, no matter what. We would help the cause of justice - and alsom ironically, help Israel gain peace and security - if we forced her to move those illegal settlers which keep building more and more villages on the West Bank. Talk about the separation of church and state! Some of those who are loudest in demanding the separation here in the US use our tax money to violate its principles over there.

IMO, they have nothing on her from 2008. The woman is a whiz, and she has proven that she is willing to fight, and give back much fiercer barbs than she gets. She will no longer have the shackles of speaking for John McCain's campaign to constrain her. And I can't wait! Rob

Gov. Palin proved yet again on Hannity last night that SHE is the force to be reckoned with, and that she is far and away superior to the rest of the field. Americans who cherish freedom have got to love this woman. She was on fire, and I anxiously look forward to her Presidency in 2013. :clapping: Rob
I voted for palin as well, knowing full well that she might not get the bomination, for several reasons.🤷

But I also love moose stew:D

I also wonder if anybody would dare to put up a poll for 2012 Democrat Presidential Nominations? Like it or not, many Catholics will vote for a Democrat, under the concept of “The Lesser Of Two Evils”. :sad_yes:

But to put up such a poll, much less vote in it, would invite all sorts of malicious, very uncharitable, attacks. So they remain silent, silently vote anti-War, anto-poverty Democratic, and silently avoid this forum.:coffeeread:

I’ve been very recently moved over to the Bachmann camp. It’s just a snapshot of this day at this time. There’s a LONG time until the election, or even the serious run up to the nomination. I’m going to start watching the debates now, if participation has improved.

Republican political insiders AKA old guard repubs that want to maintain the same old, same old. Which is why they like Romney.
👍

I call them “Country Club” or “Good Old Boy Network” Republicans.

How does that make the thread a “misnomer?” It’s a poll on the “Republican Presidential Nomination,” which means it is directed towards Republicans. 🤷

You don’t have to vote in the poll, nor do you have to comment on the thread.

So, how are those big government “compassionate conservative” “I violated free market principles to save the free market” domestic policies working out? You can’t just blame Democrats for the 14 trillion in debt.

How does that make the thread a “misnomer?”
It says “Who would you vote for?” To be excruciatingly precise, it should ask: “If you intend to vote in the Republican primary, for whom would you vote”?

If you want to be accurate.
