Sounds good to me!Can I be Secretary of Education? I want to abolish it as a cabinet department anyway, so I can just retire on a federal pension.![]()
That was too easy.Sounds good to me!
As Secretary of Treasury, I would recommend abolishing federal pensions.
That was too easy.
If so, you are an accomplished politician and I may vote for you anyway.
- Are you making the same promise to your top ten campaign donors?
- Will you cut my pension after the department is abolished?

You’re in!Can I be Secretary of Education? I want to abolish it as a cabinet department anyway, so I can just retire on a federal pension.![]()
Cool! If I got bored in retirement, maybe I could apply to be Secretary of Energy. I would close down that sucker too, but asking for a second pension would be greedy. You’re in!
The savings of you closing the department would be worth the cost of your pension.
Next?
One extra pension would be worth it…hey you could be known as the pension grabber who helped saved the nation!Cool! If I got bored in retirement, maybe I could apply to be Secretary of Energy. I would close down that sucker too, but asking for a second pension would be greedy.
I would consider accepting a bonus for doing a good job of cutting that waste from the budget.![]()
I haven’t seen a single Ron Paul supporter make a single “anti-Catholic” accusation against any other candidate. My issues lie in the substance of their political leanings. I could care less about their religious affiliation, other than the fact that they indeed have one. I could never vote for an atheist. I’ll leave it to the Obama supporters to vote for a person who thinks he is the savior of humanity. I already have one. I want a President who knows what a balance sheet and cash flow statement looks like. These accusations that certain candidates like Perry or Bachmann are anti-Catholic really ought to be thought through by those making them. There is no substantial basis for saying it, other than the fact that, in effect, ALL protestant faiths are anti-Catholic.
No matter what, NO Republican candidate even remotely approaches the anti-Catholicism of Obama, the champion of abortion, homosexual “marriage”, economic dependency on government. Those who favor particular Repub candidates (particlarly the Ron Paul supporters) ought to consider that before throwing these accusations around.
Remember, when it comes to distortion of what is, and what is not, Catholic, nobody even approaches what the Democrats are going to represent in 2012. Remember how they all argued that redistribution is so Catholic that it trumps even protecting unborn life?
Keep that in mind.
I apologize for any offense given. My comment about Ron Paul supporters was motivated by the fact that I have seen Ron Paul supporters (including on here) at least suggest that if their candidate was not the nominee, they would refrain from voting or write him in or support a third-party candidacy on his part. To those who consider him perfection, I can only say that, at a point, perfection can be made the enemy of the good. None of the leading or likely Repub candidates, with the exception of Giuliani, is an abortion-supporter. None has espoused anything suggesting the kind of ruinous economic policies so beloved of the current resident of the White House.I haven’t seen a single Ron Paul supporter make a single “anti-Catholic” accusation against any other candidate. I’m trying to catch up as well, having been hors de combat for more than a month. Hoping to be back in the fray as soon as possible.:coffeeread:
Enjoying the discussion. I learn more here than from the news.![]()
In Perry’s case there is plenty of substantial basis. These accusations that certain candidates like Perry or Bachmann are anti-Catholic really ought to be thought through by those making them. There is no substantial basis for saying it,
Hagee has said that Hitler was God’s instrument to create a Jewish state, that the Catholic church is the “whore of Babylon” and he preaches an end-times theology that anticipates bombing Iran… Perry knows Hagee and has visited his church.
Funny you should say that, guess who endorsed the Ghoulster in 2008?with the exception of Giuliani, is an abortion-supporter.
Oh yeah, Perry also endorsed Al Gore in 2004.Perry was the only Republican governor in the country to endorse Giuliani’s presidential campaign in 2008
Welcome back, you naughty boy.I’m trying to catch up as well, having been hors de combat for more than a month. Hoping to be back in the fray as soon as possible.![]()
Mitt Romney is a Mormon.. I voted for Romney but anybody on the list but Giuliani is acceptable to me.
Young people seem to consider good looks a plus. Romney is a handsome man, however he doesn’t know who God is.Can someone pm me off this thread as to why Paul, Perry, and especially Romney are such popular Catholic choices? Sincerely. I’m a little baffled at the lack of response for Bachmann, Gingrich and Pawlenty over these as pro-life/defense of marriage canddates and did Santorum drop out? I have him tied with Bachmann as a targeted enemy of NARAL. The lower a rating that NARAL gives a candidate, I would guess, the better they’d be for our morality crisis.
Im not an economics freak. I know it’s important, and I have teetered on the high wire between scraping by and poverty most of my life, no matter who was president, so I’m willing to bet a dime that it just really doesn’t matter all that much with the administrations. That the economy is independent of the white house and more centered in Wall Street, Beijing, Tokyo, London and Zurich. Presidents luck out and preside over robust economies, or failed economies. The congresses that they get stuck with have some effect I suppose. Anyway, I leave that to people a lot smarter than I. Jesus Christ ensures me that I shall never go without food, clothing or shelter. That’s good enough for me.
I therefore look to a persons moral character. What they believe. Truly and deeply in their hearts about natural law values. Are they of God or Satan at the core. With that in mind, Bachmann and Santorum seem the best choices followed by Gingrich, then Paul and a couple others.
I know it’s early, and all this will change a million times, but I sure do get worried sometimes that the party is heading for somebody like Romney over someone like Bachmann. I’ll be doing a lot more study, of course over the next few months, as I hope everybody will.
I’m especially curious about “Perry”, who I’ve heard virtually nothing about, and seems very popular. What’s a good unbiased resource to read about him? Is he a candidate? Any help appreciated. PM’s please so this thread doesn’t go off the rails.
God’s love
Steven
Mormons have wanted a Mormon to run for the presdidency ever since Joseph Smith started this cult.I like Michelle Bachman. She seems more sincere than most of the other candidates and I like her backing of the Tea Party. She seems very cool under fire and is pretty classy (not that “classy” is a presidential necessity).
Romney might be the front runner and I’d vote for him (or for anyone else pretty much) who’d keep Obama from a second term. But Romney seems like a consumate politician to me. Too smooth and not down to earth.
You mean in 1988, when Perry was a Democrat, don’t you?Oh yeah, Perry also endorsed Al Gore in 2004.
