It is not a question of what I infer. The quote was from the US bishops. It is what they mean or infer that matters. I am just a lowly believer and follower of our shepherds. If you mean to infer that …

It is phrases like this that make them useless. I am looking for concrete thing that can be done to help the black community improve. The soil matters as much a the seed.
Maybe I missed it - has a report been released that determined that the George Floyd incident was racially motivated? Or is just that any time a white (or not white) policeman interacts with a black person racist?Just now-and-then George Floyds.
Are you sure it is the black community that needs changing and not the system in power?pnewton:

The ME said nothing about killing horses. And the conclusion was that he likely would not have died right at that time if he had not been put in that choke hold for nearly 9 minutes. Saying that he would have died eventually is the justification for euthanasia, which I don’t think any of us want to support.Actually, the ME initially concluded he died of a drug overdose. He had enough fentanyl in his system to kill a horse.
The incident was unjust, whether or not Derek Chauvin was personally racist. And the prevalence of such incidents among the black community point to a systemic problem that needs to be resolved.Zaccheus:

I was not reponding to Zaccheus’ post. I was responding to the fact that systemic racism is a problem.Go back and read Zaccheus’ full post then. He clearly sees it as a racist incident. I agree it was unjust, I do not agree that it was racist (based on data released so far).

Ok, so my question is if he would have died from the restraint had he not taken all that fentynal?Floyd was alive when encountering the police, and dead after
Yes, but I would go as far to say the USA government needs to create a 20 trillion dollar fund. That fund is turned over the the black community as a whole. This would empower them to build small businesses, build homes, fund education. The usa would have no control over it no responsibility over it no accountability over it. If the black community uses it wisely then great, they don’t it is on them. Are you sure it is the black community that needs changing and not the system in power?
Why is that a relevant question? Think about it. If we are to excuse police behavior that is only harmless to Olympic athletes but potentially deadly to everyone with a weak heart, or asthma, or severe depression, what does that say about how us?Ok, so my question is if he would have died from the restraint had he not taken all that fentynal?
I know you didn’t mean this seriously, but it is interesting to see that you were not far off in your estimate of 20 trillion dollars. I looked it up. The total personal wealth in the US is 98 trillion dollars, of which blacks, which account for 13% of the population, have about 2.1 trillion (which is 2% of the total personal wealth). If the 98 trillion were redistributed (as you suggested) by moving X amount of dollars to the black community, what would X have to be to make the total personal wealth owned by blacks equal to their percentage of the population (13%) times the total wealth (98 trillion)? Well, the black community would go up from the current 2.1 trillion to 0.13 x 98 trillion = 12.74 trillion. That is an increase of 10.64 trillion, or just half the amount you suggested. So you were too generous. But only by a factor of two. So I call that pretty close! Of course this can never happen, so there is no reason to consider it other than as an intellectual curiosity and math exercise.Yes, but I would go as far to say the USA government needs to create a 20 trillion dollar fund. I did not know this was determined. I thought that is what a trial will decide. The ME said nothing about killing horses. Saying that he would have died eventually is the justification for euthanasia, which I don’t think any of us want to support.
For the reason I stated in my post. Why is that a relevant question?
I didn’t say those things. I said being high on fentanyl.potentially deadly to everyone with a weak heart, or asthma, or severe depression
I didn’t mention Olympic athletes; I said normal people.only harmless to Olympic athletes
yea, that sounds good but what do you mean by it?But if we had proper services to deal with mental health we would get to the point of a public breakdown resulting in a 911 call less.
