25 unarmed Whites and only 14 unarmed Blacks were fatally shot by police in 2019. Do the data suggest that police deserve an apology from those who vi

The soil matters as much a the seed.
It is phrases like this that make them useless. I am looking for concrete thing that can be done to help the black community improve.

Just now-and-then George Floyds.
Maybe I missed it - has a report been released that determined that the George Floyd incident was racially motivated? Or is just that any time a white (or not white) policeman interacts with a black person racist?

There’s video of it on youtube. I watched it. Multiple cops holding him down while one of them screamed at him to get into the car.
One of them was kneeling on his neck.

He died of suffocation while being arrested on the charge that he tried to pass a counterfeit twenty dollar bill.

Actually, the ME initially concluded he died of a drug overdose. He had enough fentanyl in his system to kill a horse.

Are you sure it is the black community that needs changing and not the system in power?

The ME said nothing about killing horses. And the conclusion was that he likely would not have died right at that time if he had not been put in that choke hold for nearly 9 minutes. Saying that he would have died eventually is the justification for euthanasia, which I don’t think any of us want to support.

The incident was unjust, whether or not Derek Chauvin was personally racist. And the prevalence of such incidents among the black community point to a systemic problem that needs to be resolved.

Go back and read Zaccheus’ full post then. He clearly sees it as a racist incident. I agree it was unjust, I do not agree that it was racist (based on data released so far).

And none of that has anything to do with racism. So why did you imply that it was?

“If [Mr. Floyd] were found dead at home alone and no other apparent causes, this could be acceptable to call an OD.”

An independent examiner said it was asphyxiation. That said, there is no argument that Floyd was alive when encountering the police, and dead after.

I was not reponding to Zaccheus’ post. I was responding to the fact that systemic racism is a problem.

Ok, so my question is if he would have died from the restraint had he not taken all that fentynal?

First, it’s not a chokehold, which is when someone puts his arm around your neck, possibly sufficiently to restrict breathing or bloodflow.

Was what the officer did sufficient to restrict air or blood flow?

Would it have harmed Floyd had Floyd not been in poor health and on drugs?

Now, when an officer shoots someone who is unarmed and the defense is, well, it turns out this was a very bad guy, the response is generally that the officer could not have known that at the time of the shooting so it does not count.

If the restraint would not normally cause damage, much less death, then we should take into account that the officer did not know about Floyd’s physical state either.

Floyd was apparently behaving in a wild and erratic way, which is why the officer held him down. I think this aspect of the situation should be examined more carefully, altho it seems like the officers agreed that Floyd was in a state of excited delirium.

Yes, but I would go as far to say the USA government needs to create a 20 trillion dollar fund. That fund is turned over the the black community as a whole. This would empower them to build small businesses, build homes, fund education. The usa would have no control over it no responsibility over it no accountability over it. If the black community uses it wisely then great, they don’t it is on them.

BTW, I would do the same for the Indian tribes, set up a 3 trillion dollar fund, give it to all the Indian tribes to manage, and give them the lands of the reservation.

Why is that a relevant question? Think about it. If we are to excuse police behavior that is only harmless to Olympic athletes but potentially deadly to everyone with a weak heart, or asthma, or severe depression, what does that say about how us?

I know you didn’t mean this seriously, but it is interesting to see that you were not far off in your estimate of 20 trillion dollars. I looked it up. The total personal wealth in the US is 98 trillion dollars, of which blacks, which account for 13% of the population, have about 2.1 trillion (which is 2% of the total personal wealth). If the 98 trillion were redistributed (as you suggested) by moving X amount of dollars to the black community, what would X have to be to make the total personal wealth owned by blacks equal to their percentage of the population (13%) times the total wealth (98 trillion)? Well, the black community would go up from the current 2.1 trillion to 0.13 x 98 trillion = 12.74 trillion. That is an increase of 10.64 trillion, or just half the amount you suggested. So you were too generous. But only by a factor of two. So I call that pretty close! Of course this can never happen, so there is no reason to consider it other than as an intellectual curiosity and math exercise.

I did not know this was determined. I thought that is what a trial will decide.

Why is that a relevant question?
For the reason I stated in my post.
potentially deadly to everyone with a weak heart, or asthma, or severe depression
I didn’t say those things. I said being high on fentanyl.

Also, how would a physical event such as this affect someone with severe depression differently than a person without?
only harmless to Olympic athletes
I didn’t mention Olympic athletes; I said normal people.

Why did you twist my words like that?

But if we had proper services to deal with mental health we would get to the point of a public breakdown resulting in a 911 call less.
yea, that sounds good but what do you mean by it?

are you talking forced treatment for recalcitrant addicts, and secure commitment facilities for the mentally ill? Sounds a lot like jail.
