Thank you for the charitable approach-- it is much appreciated. No my brother, you can trace your roots back to the Roman Catholic Church. From there on, you can trace the Church back to the Apostle. Bill gave a historical list of the Church, and its off-shoots. Not one single member refuted that list. it is because people lie, history dosen`t.
I hope I am not sounding pridful, if I am, I honestly dont want it to be like that. I just dont know how else to put it.
Before the schisms, there was only one visible reality of the Church which reflected the spiritual unity of the invisible Church-- it was called catholic, not Roman. As sin and division crept in, the visible unity of the Church was farctured, though the deeper spiritual unity of Christians by virtue of their faith and baptism could not be severed.
Thus the Eastern Orthodox do not begin at 1054, but the schism between the other 4 great Patriarchs and the sole Roman patriarch dates from then. The Lutherans do not begin at 1521 with Luther, but reflect a schism of the German church from Rome that reverbated into many other western countries.
We all are tied to the same catholic root. Romans, Lutherans, Orthodox, Anglicans, etc. We might argue our fidelity to that root, but historically speaking, we’re all still branches of that same catholic reality. This is why the CCC can speak of Christian unity in the One Catholic Church via faith and baptism, even if not fully united visibly under the headship of Rome.
Peace.
